While we count down the days until the new season starts, it’s quiz time! 1. John Eustace famously once scored against us while still a Watford player out on loan. But who was the last player to score FOR us while on loan from another club? 2. Who were the three Watford players to score own goals in the PL last season? 3. Which club did we play twice (and beat twice) last season in first eleven friendly matches last season? 4. Which current Watford player scored twice on his international debut? 5. Which experienced coach did Aidy Boothroyd try and fail to bring to the club, who then later became our manager? 6. Who was the only Watford player to score in all three competitions last season? 7. Which opposition player scored the most times against us last season? 8. Footballing history was made in the 2009-10 season in a fixture between Newport and Macclesfield. But what was the link to Watford? 9. Other than Deeney, who else scored penalties for us in the PL last season? 10. Which current Watford player’s first and only international goal came against Belarus.
I don't like to look things up when I do these quizzes, just to test my knowledge & memory.....so here goes. 2. Doucoure (Brighton , h), Janmaat (Wolves, a), Mariappa (Brighton, a) 3. Brentford? 4. Pedro? 5. Ray Lewington? 6. Pereyra 7. Probably Sterling.....but certainly a Man City player 9. Deulofeu (Chelsea, h) & Pereyra (Arsenal, h)
Well done young man. 2, 3, 6 and 9 correct. Sterling scored twice against us last season, but didn’t feature in the 8-0 drubbing (he was an unused sub) There was actually a hatrick in that match from a somewhat surprise source. (Good player but not a prolific scorer)
I'm going to try and answer these off the top of my head...can't stand anyone who cheats at quizzes. 1: Niang 2: Mapps, Doucs, Janmaat 3: Brentford 4: Wellbeck 5: Brendan Rodgers 6: Pereyra 7: Sterling 8: Not a clue 9: Pereyra, Deulofeu 10: Cathcart
8. Newport and Macclesfield weren’t in the same division that season as Newport were still non-league weren’t they? Was it a cup game? Or have you got the teams wrong?
Sorry that I didn’t phrase Q1 as well as I wanted. The player scored for us against the club he was on loan from. In the same way Eustace played and scored against us while on loan for another club.
Dreadnought has got the 2 goals on international debut question right. It was Cucho. B Silva got a hat trick against us last season but somebody scored more times against us than that. Uff I’m having a predictive text nightmare today, for which I can only apologise. Q8 should read Mansfield, not Macclesfield.
Molla Wague scored against Leicester on loan? Q.8 - this is a guess, but I know Dean Holdsworth used to manage Newport so at a guess, was his brother Mansfield manager?
Brentford is not correct. We played them pre-season the season before last and during lockdown last season.
Yes well done for 8. The first time that two twins have ever been the opposing managers in a match in any of England’s top five leagues. Again apologies for the typo when I posted the question.
Yes Tommy Mooney’s first goal for us was scored while on loan from Southend against them! Wouldn’t be allowed now of course. And yes Auba scored the most against us last season. A brace in both matches.
No, the answer to 3 is nobody. The question is wrong. We played Brentford in pre-season 2 seasons ago and again before this past season restarted in June, two separate seasons. We did play QPR in a friendly last season, but only once. Not that it matters of course. In other news, I've just had a fence built and it's very nice.
I'd be very surprised if there's any of that type where I live. I've never seen any. Although, someone or something was leaving large turds on the grass, so I suppose it's possible.
The question is not wrong, dear. The answer, as you correctly said, is nobody. Well done young man. I hope your fence will survive the gales that are predicted next week.
Well then I refer to your earlier post, as above. The fence is very firmly footed on concrete base boards, but I appreciate both your concern and your advance notice of impending inclement weather.
Yes well done. I never realised it until recently but Aidy tried to get Pearson to join his coaching staff after our relegation under him. And yes, Capoue’s only international goal was against Belarus.
