As usual we are static in the transfer market, whilst many of our rivals are already doing business and strengthening their teams. So come on Gino lets start to see some action, before we are left scrabbling around for the leftovers like we often are. We haven't even got a new manager sorted out yet either.
I hope we've got some lined up already that we're just keeping quiet, I'm not getting too worried just yet
Not one player who has been signed by a Championship club so far would I have wanted at Watford so far. So not really worrying.
I hope you are right, but a similar pattern seems to be emerging at the moment and we really need to change that approach IMO.
Plenty of time yet! You could easily look at it another way and say we haven’t sold anyone yet! In which case we will likely have by far and away the best squad in the division... I’m glad we haven’t signed or sold anyone as yet - it’s an indication that maybe the club want the new managers input on matters for once!
Well, tomorrow is kit announcement day, not that I really give too much of a **** about that, but I do wonder if it's gonna be accompanied by the official confirmation of the Ngakia deal?
Don’t think so. I don’t think any players are around to be honest. Think they are all well and truly happy to get out of the country, spend a couple of week abroad before coming back. No-one is really making any moves at the moment, and I think that will be the case until pre-season starts and the players are back.
Yeah, I get that, although we must have been in quite regular contact with him over the past few weeks, so he might be around rather than on the beach
Sounds like we were in contact with him before the season finished, so you could be right, maybe the picture was already taken.
Well it looks like Gomes is definitely off. A friend of mine is going to be buying the house that he is currently renting.
We really should be keeping him in an ambassador role. Such a likable guy who knows how to look after the South American prospects we have joining us in the future. Plus keeping him now to let Pedro settle into the life in the championship will also be massive. Understand not renewing his contract but we’re silly if we let him go completely.
What South American prospects that are joining us in the future? We certainly won't be signing anymore Richarlisons or Pedros as a Championship club. Doubt our high performing loanees will be joining either and even if they did, none of them are Brazilian, not sure if Gomes even speaks Spanish and South America is a diverse continent anyway - there's no reason a young Colombian or Ecuadorian would get on with a 40 year old Brazilian. Paying someone a wage to babysit Pedro is bonkers, we need to be cutting costs not being sentimental.
I can see it from both sides. Money wise might be stupid. But Gomes is and can be a role model for every single young player coming through the club not just young foreigners. In my opinion he's going to be a great loss in every area of the club.
Every club has people in the back room these days that work on player liaison etc. Can’t see why Gomes can’t fill that role for the South American players if the intention is for us to have more than just Joao Pedro in the next 12 months. Whilst he may not speak Spanish etc, he will know what it’s like for a young South American trying to settle into English culture and would seemingly be a decent outlet that the club could exploit. I don’t think the suggestion is that he stays in a playing capacity. But I’m not sure why there should be a desperation to get him out the door if he retires from playing? He’s clearly a very well liked person at the club who I think would serve a number of purposes to the club on other matters.
All I know is that a friend of mine is buying his house that he was renting. To me that says he's 100% gone. If its Brazil I'm not sure because Ive not spoken to them again since they told me. He would be a fantastic ambassador for the club there, plus wasn't he talking about becoming an agent for players a few years back?
Firstly, I'm guessing that most player liaison people are on about £30k-40k a year at the very maximum and doubt Gomes would hang around for that or that we'd play him a premium just because he used to play for us. But the bigger point is that a) we're unlikely to have any South Americans joining us any time soon b) it's not one big homogeneous continent anyway, a lot of the other countries don't even like Brazil or Brazilians. Sure, have him as an ambassador that's welcome back anytime and pops up in the hospitality suite when match days are back up and running but no idea why we'd keep him on just to be a big brother to Joao Pedro.
Hence why I said ‘if’ the intention is for us to have just more than one South American on board next season? The point I was making was that he could combine a few roles within the club - liaison, ambassador, youth GK coach... I don’t understand the clamour some have (not saying you) to get him out the door full stop.
Just seen Hojberg is costing Spurs £15m. Seems a bit low? Is it the final year of his contract or something? Wouldn’t care except it probably means Doucoure is worth about £5m.

The young Palumbo could be shot at Watford to allow him to gain experience among the greats 08.26.2020 11:09 by Jessy Specogna See readings © photo by Daniele Buffa / Image Sport Martin Palumbo, an Italian-Norwegian midfielder born in '02, had the opportunity to make his debut with the black and white shirt in the last championship match against Sassuolo. Shortly thereafter, his contract renewed until 2025, a sign that the company believes in this young man. At the moment Palumbo is training with Max Moras' Primavera but a sale on loan to allow him to gain experience in the world of the greats is not to be excluded. From this point of view, the idea would be to send him to Watford to give him his skills in a still competitive championship like the Championship. LOL @ amongst the greats
With end of the transfer window fast approaching, I thought I'd check out the players who are under consideration to be sold, and in which window they could be sold in. This season, there are two windows. A European one and a domestic one. The European transfer window closes on October 5th and the domestic window closes on 16th October. So, obviously all players can be sold until 5th, but I think once that window closes, it will almost certainly close on quite a few players if they don't get their moves before then. The likes of Capoue, Pereyra, Femenia, Pussetto & Deulofeu I can only see going to clubs in Europe. So, if any of these players are still with us on October 6th, then I expect them to stay until the winter window at least. Players like Deeney, Welbeck, Sarr, Hughes & Dawson I would expect to go to Premier League clubs, so we'll have to wait on these players until 17th October.
Suarez also (perhaps the most significant of all) for the foreign window. Deeney and Welbeck and even Sarr could plausibly go abroad, but that still means that the 17th is the closure of their final window.
Yes....apologies....forgot to include him. He'll be in the list for European transfers. Once that window passes, I'm sure he'll stay with us for now.
Leventhal said there's interest from the Premier League for Deulofeu, which despite his injury would not surprise me one bit given how class he's been in the top flight
Usually if our window shut at, say 11pm on 1st Sep, then that just means English teams can’t sign players after that time. However if the window in Spain closes 24 hours later, they are still free to sign players from the English league in that extra time (it’s why the English leagues reversed their decision to close our window before the season started, as it weakened our position against European rivals). My question therefore is: are those dates you’ve given definitely the dates by which players must depart? Or are they the deadlines for English clubs BUYING players from overseas and the UK respectively?
I think from October 6th to 16th, clubs can only sign players from within England, and Premier League clubs can't buy players from other Premier League clubs. Apparently that was at the behest of EFL clubs (who of course will need to sell to get by), but of course the Premier League won't have said no to it!
So Pereyra, Capoue et al could be here on October 6th but still join a club from Italy, Spain etc depending on their own windows.
All the big 5 leagues’ transfer windows close on October 6. There’s the domestic window ending on October 16 and then the Russian and Portuguese leagues close a little later. So all sales to Spain or Italy will have to be sorted by the 5th.
