If all the other results had remained the same Villa would have been relegated and not Bournemouth, however if Villa had had the goal stand against them they may well have lost that game and not had the impetus to grind out their other results giving us more hope of staying up! Goal difference would have changed so it would certainly been a close run thing, whether we would have stayed up - no one will ever know!!

False twitter rumours do not reflect badly on the PL or the FA. It is not their fault if false rumours are spread. The rules did allow for VAR to alert the referee to the goal, but the VAR man was not quick enough to realise this, so lack of common sense in the governing body can't be blamed.

 

This is true and begs the question "what was the VAR man doing? " .

VAR is only being used to manipulate matches and they are getting away with it. He clearly saw the ball had crossed the line in the Villa v Sheff Utd game, but ignored it. He clearly saw the ball hit Sakho's back in the Villa v Palace game but overruled the 'goal'. He clearly saw the handball and penalty we should have had a Spurs and ignored it, he clearly saw the handball at Newcastle but ignored it, he clearly saw the handball at Southampton but ignored it, he clearly saw the push on Cathcart and Mina's handball against Everton, but ignored it. But he spots the coming together between Lacazzete and Dawson challenge against Arsenal and advises a penalty should be awarded, yet ignores Cahill's arm around Deeney's neck pulling him to the ground at Palace..........and the list goes on and on.

VAR is a tool for manipulation. So now you run the gauntlet that one referee maybe clean, but another maybe bent. Instead of cleaning up the game so mistakes are reduced, what has now happened is the chances of fixing the outcome of a game has doubled.

It worked for them as the Premier League managed to get rid of the more unfashionable sides and have been replaced by mighty Leeds and a more established West Brom. Their product is more exciting because of it, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters. They'll be hoping Brentford go up too, just to add a sprinkle of romance, as Bournemouth's story became stale.

I predict next season, Burnley will be the team that's dumped on by VAR. I'll be looking out for that.

I do find it unbearable how many morons still continue to talk about this fake Bournemouth "fairytale" and what a "miracle" their rise has been.

If a miracle is being bankrolled by an ultra wealthy Russian throughout their rise through the leagues and consistently spending well, well beyond their actual means as a tiny football club, and even being fined for breaking FFP, then yes, it's a miracle.

I agree. What was very impressive was when they started League 1 on -17 points and managed to stay up (before they were bankrolled). With a skeleton squad and little money they would have made the playoffs If they didn’t start of with —17.

Yes....as I mentioned there are many instances and virtually all went against us. I remember VAR overruled the referee against Burnley and gave them a penalty, which killed the game. It was a correct overrule, but it seems if it's a correct call against us it's given, but if it's a correct call for us, it's not...and vice versa. The red card Mings should have been shown at Villa. The red card for Pereyra against Tranmere in the Cup, which was reviewed and not overturned, but was later by the review panel. Basically it conspires to go against us whether it's right or wrong. We just get hammered every time, but then it's all smoothed over at the end of the season with a table to show Watford would have been no better or worse off by VAR decisions, as if we've all been lobotomised.

I was hoping VAR would be used fairly, but it wasn't. It has just shown up the officials for what they are. If you're kind you can label them incompetent, but I personally feel it's deliberate and at some level, whether it's by design or subconscious, the authorities want smaller clubs out of the Premier League, apart from novelty clubs, like a Bournemouth or a Brentford if they go up. That adds to their product by having a romantic story to go along with the collection of the biggest clubs.

I predict the next club to be in the firing line will be Burnley. Expect them to get a load of bad VAR calls next season.

The problem with any debate about VAR is the same old thing, every single decision against your team is a bad/wrong decision. Every decision for your team is the right one. The argument has shifted from the referee to VAR and most people don't realise it's ultimately the same thing.

Next season we'll be criticising the ref for every decision we don't get and wishing for VAR back.

 

The trouble is that Muff will probably get away with their diving tactics in the Chump without VAR. I firmly believe that Muff were relegated this season because so many of the calls that usually went their way before VAR, went against them because VAR exposed them for the divers that they are.
