Leventhal’s latest Athletic article has a few transfer nuggets. It seems to mostly be speculation in fairness and for most players he’s telling us what we already know, eg Estupinian linked with Barca and Sevilla so unlikely to join, Pereyra and Doucoure have previously sought moves and are expected to do so now etc.

    Things worth noting however:
    • Mariappa and even Gomes may yet be given extensions. Talks are ongoing.
    • Quina’s representatives held talks with Barcelona B earlier this year
    • Cucho unlikely to join until January due to work permit issues

Well maybe Gomes was a bit premature then yesterday in his social media post yesterday?

Quina not good enough for us but Barca B want him ..

Seems to be the usual confusion over Hernandez .

Can he get a work permit or not ...?

I don't think it's the fact Quina is not good for us, we have been scrapping for points and the management team (Giraldi) trusted the senior players more. Quina should be in a midfield three with Hughes and Chalobah/Capoue.

With Ake going to Man City for £41mil that has done us a massive favour in the Covid market.

Man City have literally just set the bar for everyone else to follow.

Bournemouth are in a much worse financial position as us. As has been revealed by multiple outlets, they were spending 88-90% of their TV rights on players wages alone.

Thankfully we were nowhere near that.

I still expect us to sell Femenia, Capoue, Pereyra, Doucoure, Deulofeu, Suarez and Estupinan, but it won’t be for pennies these idiotic Everton fans are quoting for some strange reason.

With Ake going for £41mil literally means we will be after something similar when it comes to Doucoure, Deulofeu, Suarez and Estupinan. All 4 will go for £30mil+ now in my opinion.

I like your optimism but 30m for Suarez? He's not even made an appearance in a top league. GD is currently injured. Doucs possibly if a team starts to panic but his form thus season can't justify that amount. Estupinan is a wild card but still extremely high. I just can't see your valuations as realistic.

Suarez is being chased by Atletico Madrid and Lazio, if reports are to be believed. While he hasn’t done it in a top league the potential to be a world class striker is there for all to see. When championship players are being sold for £10-20mil, then a club paying £30mil for a striker that has all the attributes to world class isn’t off the radar. Granted it would probably be a deal of £20mil up front, £10mil bonuses or something like that.

Doucoure is 27, has proven himself in multiple seasons. One off season doesn’t mean he is terrible all of sudden. If Ake is worth £41mil to Bournemouth then Doucoure who has far more quality than Ake is easily a £30mil+ midfielder.

Estupinan is unknown, but his breakthrough season in La Liga has put his name in the lips of the biggest clubs in the world, again if reports are to be believed. A LB that can attack and defend is a rarity in today’s day an age. Granted he’s better going forward but he is a decent defender as well. If, and it’s a big if, his contract has been extended, then he will easily go for £30mil+ in my opinion.

He has literally made team of the season in La Liga by multiple Spainish journalists.

I fully understand what you mean but I still feel it's optimistic.
Bournemouth turned down 70m last year. A near on 30m drop in price. Yes they've been relegated but it's Man City they're dealing with. Until dealings start moving along better I believe only then will we see what types of fees are being paid. But trust me I hope you're right.

Ballpark figures for our major assets:

    Sarr- £40m
Estupinan- £30m (if the reports of him having a contract with us until 2024 are true)
    Deulofeu- £25m
    Doucoure- £20m
Suarez- £15m (maybe a little more, though £30m definitely does seem optimistic)
    Pereyra- £10m
    Femenia-- £5m

These all seem the likely departures, although I'm sure there'll be more, for whom we can generate a bit more cash

Ake is young, yet still experienced, and isn't he a homegrown player? £30m is a lot for some club to fork out on someone of the level of Doucoure who isn't homegrown, unless you're desperate

The 1 extra million feels deliberate.

Must be a sell-on clause involved as well with Chelsea fetching some of that £41 million.

Gino could've made £21 million if he signed him originally.

Oh ****, hadn't thought of that. I guess that's a couple of mil that Bournemouth won't be getting, but how many of our lot will have sell-on fees? (if Sarr does, it probably won't amount to all that much given we signed him for a big fee)

Lazio seem close to signing Borja Mayoral for about £15mil, and Atletico Madrid have more recently been linked to Rafa Mir who has also been doing very well in La Liga 2. As much as I like Suarez, he's not shown enough to command a £30mil fee.

Worth noting that Mir flopped at Forest in the Championship before going on to tear-up La Liga 2 for Huesca, suggesting that there's no guarantee Suarez will even be a huge success if we bring him back this season (though I'd like to see it given a try). Cucho also shows moving from La Liga 2 to La Liga can be tough.

Ake is only 2 yrs younger than Doucoure. Granted the homegrown makes a difference but in terms of quality. Doucoure has all the attributes to be world class. We’ve seen how good he is. Granted this past season he hasn’t been his best, but less than £30mil for a midfielder the calibre of Doucoure would be a bargain.

Just going off the hype around him. Will be interesting. The latest reports that I’ve seen on social media for him, probably made up, but that we are looking for in excess of £20mil for him. £30mil probably is too much but some club dumb enough like Everton could be easily fleeced.

Saw a report that Chelsea have 72 hrs to match Man City’s bid as they have a buy back clause. Supposedly they won’t do it.

If we don't get more than that for Sarr, we'll have been mugged.

WE are prime for mugging at the moment, needing to raise cash and there will be fewer significant buyers around keeping prices down. I don't think we will get half of the sums being quoted here given our need for cash and to reduce our cost base significantly.

You're the forum version of the Watford Twitter admin. Always posting things tempting fate which inevitably obliges.

Aké has been Bournemouth's best player for three seasons. £40m is a good price for him, if not a little cheap.

Not a single one of those players you've listed will go for £30m+. Aké is a home grown, consistent performer in the Premier League, hence why Man City want him in the first place.

You can't be a world class midfielder if passing is your weakest attribute.

Out of these I can see Doucs and Kiko going for a fee. Pereyra is 100% going to Udinese of this I have no doubt.
GD possibly in the next window, unless someone gambles on his fitness which I doubt t during these strange times.
The young guys on loan should be told, sorry but your under contract and will be at Watford next season.
Sarr there will be an issue if someone offers crazy money. So it's a waiting game.
I can see Capoue, Chalobah, Cleverly and one of either Dawson, Cathcart or Kabs going too.
As for the rest God knows. Just waiting for panic to set in before the other dross upfront leave too.

Chalobah and Cleverley won't be going anywhere, they have been wildly inconsistent. I'd like to see an in form Capoue in the Championship but we don't know what's going to happen yet.

I think Kabs will go, with the EFL's home grown rule it's likely that Cathcart and Dawson will stay and I wouldn't rule out a one year extension for Mariappa.

Let's hope we don't leave it too late to sell players and give ourselves no time to replace them.

An in form Capoue in the Championship would be great, but it won't happen even if he stays; he's 32 and has looked shot since the restart.

I'd be hoping we can sucker someone, anyone, in to taking Chalobah and Cleverley off our hands.

Leventhal claimed a couple of weeks ago that Lyon wanted Capoue last summer and remain interested. I doubt we’ll get much money for a 32 year old but he’ll want to go at this stage of his career and we can’t hold it against him.
Shame, as he’s real quality and was our first signing after promotion wasn’t he? Or maybe second after Prodl, so the first one for a fee.

I do have doubts he’s mentally suited to a scrap in the Championship but there’s no denying that when he fancies turning on the style he’d take the absolute p*** out of that league.

I'm not completely sure he'll want to go. I've no idea if he wants to go back to France, and I guess if family ties pull him he would go, but he's not a big football person and has been in and around London for 7 years now. At his age I wouldn't see him as an obvious agitator for a move. Lyon aren't even in European competition next year. Capoue has two years left and as long as relegation has decimated his salary I can easily see him staying put.

Would he want to stay here with a decimated salary? If it’s, say, a 50% reduction it must lead him to look elsewhere.

This is just guesswork but according to this £40k p/w:

    https://www.spotrac.com/epl/watford/payroll/

So every chance he’ll now be on £20k p/w. There is less money in the french league and at 32 I don’t know if he’d be able to get too much more than that, but it must be a possibility. We only paid about £5m for him so if he wants to go and we can get a fee then it would seem likely to me.

Would like to see him in the championship though, reckon he could easily beat his three consecutive nutmegs against Tottenham.

Yeah obviously it was a lot for us then, but I reckon he’ll probably manage to get at least that salary elsewhere, so if he wants to go I can’t see us standing on his way really.

Doucoure and Estupinan will definitely go for .£30mil+ in my opinion.

Depending on the deal with Milan, since they don’t have much money, can see them offering cash plus player(s) for Deulofeu in a deal worth £30mil or more. The players will end up at Udinese.

Barcelona are the most recent team to be interested in Suarez, according to reports, a source at the club has stated, they view him as the ideal replacement for Luis Suarez (the original). With so much interest around him and multiple clubs wanting him, easy to see a bidding war take place.

Gino is no mug and unless his price is met, he won’t sell. One thing we won’t do is sell any of our players on the cheap just because we are relegated. If Ake is worth £41mil, that has set the bench mark in a Covid market, then so is Doucoure who is just as talented as Ake, if not more. Yes he’s had a poor season, but who hasn’t in our team. Thankfully most teams don’t look at just one season. They know he is a talented midfielder and would improve anyone’s midfield outside of Liverpool,Man City and Man Utd. Doucoure walks into the Arsenal,Spurs and Chelsea midfield (he’s better than Barkley).

Apparently we’re refusing to let Suarez play in the play-offs for Zaragoza. We refused to extend his loan. They are not happy.

Twitter is going mental with Zaragoza fans.
