Five Years Of Bliss

A lot of doom and gloom around here and rightly so with the season we have had. I wanted to make a thread where we can rejoice in the good times we have had in our recent five years as a Premiership club. These are just my personal highlights, and ones I can look back on with fondness. Some may be harder to remember than others, as five years is quite a time span to think back along, especially since we have had more lows than highs.
Looking forward to reading yours too. :)

Drawing with Everton first game back

Winning our first game back against Swansea 1-0 at the Vic

Beating Man Utd 3-1 and 2-0

Beating Middlesbrough 1-0 away with a stunning goal

    Shaking hands with Emma Saunders

Beating Liverpool twice and ending their unbeaten record (also the 3-3 draw with them was pretty good)

Beating Muff 3-0 in their own back yard joining in with the OLAY's with Pearson, Doucs and Sarr.

Signing Sarr and Welbeck (yes, it was still a coup for us to get him too)

Laughing hysterically in Wally's last match for us, seeing two goalkeepers as subs

Coming back from 2-0 down to draw with Arsenal in QSF's game back in charge

DT ranting with Arsenal Fan TV outside Vicarage Road after we had beaten them 2-1 in the late kick off

Smashing Chelsea 4-1 in Gracia's second game and seeing Conte' sulk down the tunnel at FT

Being blown away by our football under Silva before it all went Everton side down

Beating Wolves 2-1 at Wembley and reaching our second FA Cup Final

Finishing 11th, a club all time high in the Premier League

There's probably more too - but that is the main personal highlights.

All those some of my highlights. The win at Arsenal in 2017 was a high point. Great Tuesday night in North London.

A good list there, I'd add a few more of my own:

When was the Mazzarri match where he bought us drinks, Everton away? That's on my list, even if it was a terrible match!

Coming back from 1-0 down to beat Spurs at home in 2018. I headed to Heathrow straight from the stadium, still in my Watford shirt - it was like being a celebrity, turns out everyone loves it when Spurs lose.

But as you mentioned, that first match away at Everton was one of the best. The way we turned up and outplayed them, I think people (including us) realised at that point we weren't going to be whipping boys!

Just look how excitable/optimistic we all were:

Only "Celeb" I have spoken to apart from Deeney at a signing session. Nice gal. I know a few male friends who call her a "MILF"? No idea what it means,
    probably something perverse.

Gomes’ two penalty saves in 20 mins at the Hawthorns in 2016, what an away day that was! Buzzing all the way back home.

Looking back, I find our 8-0 loss to City somewhat hilarious as it brought us all back down to reality after what was essentially, a phenomenal performance against Arsenal in QSF’s first match back.

Shame we couldn’t rise up from it like Southampton did after losing 9-0, but I guess that comes part and parcel with Watford

It’s both nice and also sad in a way looking back, as we realise there weren’t be such highs for at least a year or two.

I posted on a different thread last week that we’d actually managed to beat all but two of the sides we’ve met over the five seasons. That’s quite a stat really, considering at times there’s been a perception that we rarely beat the big boys. We have so many unforgettable wins to look back on..Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. We just needed Man City to complete the set but hey ho. We are destined to draw them in the cup next season I imagine!

The very first win was always going to be the hardest to achieve so I’d say Swansea at home under QSF. Stoke away not long after was great too, as they were seen as an established mid-table PL side and by winning there, the early signs were around that we could do what we’d never done before and stay up. Man U at home under Mazzarri when Zuniga appeared from nowhere and scored and then won us a penalty, showing that sometimes there was method to our madness in all the bit time players we seem to sign. Chelsea at home under Javi was just stunning. Starting his full season with 4 straight wins wow, it was like ‘what on earth is going on here?’ Seeing us in the top 2 at that stage. The great run we went on under Silva until Everton came calling. So many highs..

But I think my very best, and it’s sad writing this now because ultimately it counted for nothing, but it would be beating Liverpool this season. It achieved us worldwide fame. I’m sure all of us here were inundated with text messages that night from our friends who support other clubs. It was a stunning performance. It’s just so sad and shameful really we never built on it.

My mates support teams who win every week so to be the one who's team lose 6-0 in a cup final and 8-0 in a league game I took it as a special honour

Nice thread . We’ve had sone great moments and sine real joy .

I would add beating Everton at the vic with Silva in charge and the moment they asked us to give him a warm welcome . That was a great feeling, though short lived

Didn't Southampton's bad run turn around at exactly the point they got a morale boosting win against us?

    Yes.

One of my favourite things of the last 5 years is how we were the charity team of the PL. Always helping out a team on a bad run.

Also when we were Sunderland's last home win for about 2 years.

Think it’s been talked about in here . Players don’t care , aren’t prepared to fight for the cause . Just a bunch of missionaries . All steams from the ownership

You support the club not the players. If you can’t enjoy some the results mentioned on here because you don’t like the player then prepare yourself for a lot more disappointment and maybe consider not supporting a football club

You just continue wallowing in misery if you want, but this is a thread remembering the good times - and there were quite a few. There are other places in this forum to join the self-congratulatory hate fest, hopefully you and the rest of them will go and 'support' (ie. despise) some other club - the sooner, the better.

He's not a serious poster. The hilarious typos which vary for the same word from post to post give it away. Just a question of whether he's one of us in disguise or supporter of another team.

I did wonder - I noticed the 'Just a bunch of missionaries' rather than mercenaries error. Quite amusing if our players had all been converted by Gomes to be missionarires in Brazil, no wonder their minds weren't on the job!

If it is a troll, I reckon the former.

Beating Arsenal at home with Cleverley's 92nd-minute winner was incredible.

Our first game back at Everton, as mentioned, was the moment we knew we were back (both literally and metaphorically). Watching Ighalo put John Stones on his backside not once but twice to then slot home our 2nd was beautiful. Why City then wasted 50 million on him I will never know.

Guedioura's thunderbolt at Arsenal in the cup in 2016. MY WORD. I don't think he will ever hit anything as hard as he hit that.

The football has been torrid the last 12 months or so but we really have had so many brilliant moments since we came up
