No way should we just loan him to them - what's the benefit for us in that?!

They should be getting about £35mil from City for Ferran Torres, so they should be able to send about £20mil of that our way for Geri if they really want him.

I imagine we'd ask for all of his wages to be paid and most likely a decent loan fee on top. He's on 60k a week which is quite sizeable. Plus in the event we go straight back up, we'll have him back and ready.

I want him to rip a hole through Luton.

We might also be better served getting a transfer fee now to invest in other areas of the pitch that urgently need addressing.

£20m? That buys his left foot......

In all seriousness we shouldn’t be selling Geri for less than £30m.

  7. He's £30m in a fire sale

Someone linked him to Brighton on Twitter!

    Really is silly season already.

Yes, I saw that, with a whopping £12.5m bid. How could we refuse.

We only signed him for £11mil.

I'd be surprised if anyone would pay £30mil for him now we've gone down, especially given his injury.

I guess Everton paid £30mil for Iwobi though, so nothing's impossible!

Hes 10m in a fire sale. Hes 25m if we go down and decide we need the money. Hes 20m if above but hes injured. Hes 35m if we're in the premier league.

    I think we'll take 17.5m

The deal for Geri to go to Valencia makes sense, and I'd prefer this than to see him playing for a Premier league club. I don't know much about their current squad but unless he's there to make the numbers up, not sure how Kiko would get a chance.

Perhaps, but it's a risk vs reward scenario - if we go back up - how much would it cost to get someone of Deulofeus quality in? His value is currently low due to clubs not knowing how he'll bounce back from his injury, this way hopefully he'll have a half decent season at Valencia which will make his value rise again for either a return to the PL with us or if we don't go back up then we can cash in.

    Apparently not.

    CITY CLOSE TO TORRES DEAL

Manchester City are close agreeing a deal to sign Valencia winger Ferran Torres.

Talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage.

Discussions are centring around initial fee of £20.9m, plus bonuses.

He is seen as the replacement for Leroy Sane.

Like you, I would have thought they would have at least got £30mil for him. An initial fee of £21mil is peanuts. Certainly doesn’t give them the funds for Deulofeu and Femenia.

Prices will definitely be supressed due to the CV19 financing issues that clubs face. Too many will be desperate to sell/reduce cost base.

I agree. That is where I am happy we have Gino. Even in a Covid market he won’t take nonsense bids.

I think we will get £15m ish for GD. He had an average season, and is coming back from Injury. Add to that C.19, and relegation.

In the current market (pre Covid) he’s worth £30m comfortably. Still young (26?) and is on a big contract here, so should be able to demand top dollar for him. Although I take your point on his injury.

  23. Not a chance, when have you ever known a Pozzo club sell a player at a discount price? He might be part of a deal, perhaps staged payments, but the price is the price.

I'd settle for £20-25m for Geri tbf, £30m would be a bit much under the circumstances. If we're looking for around £40m for Sarr, who's about the same quality, but younger, not injured and was a marquee signing for us, I don't see us getting anywhere close to that for Geri

I don't think there's any benefit in loaning Del out to anyone. This season would have been his last here had he not got injured (and I reckon he would have kept us up), we could sell him now despite the injury but if we loan him out and don't get promoted he will go for a lot less than we would get now. If he stays then he can be part of a squad that will look to get immediate promotion.

I don’t think we should be selling Gerry unless he is keen to get out or unless we are offered more than a decent replacement would be , if he doesn’t fancy the championship or we need to reduce our wage bill , send him to udineese for a year, reevaluate end of next season

I hate predicting things with certainty. But we simply won’t sell him for £17.5m. We got more for Lukebakio who barely stepped foot at the club.
Championship clubs now are paying upwards of £10m-£15m for players. A club coming down from the PL does not accept £17.5m for arguably their best player.

QPR are asking for upwards of £20m for Eze. Deulofeu is easily £30m in the current market.

    Spot on.

What's the point of selling GD for 17.5m if we'd have to spend roughly the same to get a Championship standard player to replace him?

I think one of the things we have going for us is we can shunt players to Udinese if they want to move to a higher league, but we don't want to sell at that price. It puts us in a position where we're under less pressure to get rid than other clubs in our situation.

We won't be spending the money - we will be paying down debt

We will just have to use the squad that we have after the crown jewels have been stolen for peanuts-this is the real price of relegation in a buyers market

The club have taken out a loan to lessen the impact financially. We’ve been relative paupers in the PL financially, yet the big boys still haven’t been able to ‘steal’ any of our players. I don’t have much faith in Gino at all at the moment - but the one remaining thing I do have faith in him with is that he won’t conduct a fire-sale. If players leave, I’m very confident it’s because we really can’t keep them and it’ll be for every penny of their value to us.

We won't have to spend tons of money, even with the players leaving, I'm sure we'll retain enough of the current squad and loanees to ensure we'll only need a few signings for the first team. There'll be bargains to be had for us out there as well

I get your point, but I don't want my club to risk being a Bolton by not cutting their cloth accordingly. By all means get the best deal possible for our best players, but we have to lose the higher earners, lose the assets that can recoup the missing tv money (and commercial / tickets side of covid). Whilst our wages to turnover is not at the level of bournemouth, without the tv money it'll be above 100%.

How many players would go for 30m without yet returning from an ACL? Not many! And whats the market right now? Covids got everyone a bit jittery.

Maybe one or two will go to Udinese? I can see a season there for Gerry, to regain fitness for one, to take his wages with him, keep him in the shop window and maybe sold Jan or next summer, possibly back to us if we go up.

I think GD is likely to want to go, and whilst I like him he has one good season in his career. Apart from the Norwich away game, I’m struggling to think of too many games last season where he had a match winning contribution. Compare that to Sarr where most of the games we won, were down to him. We won’t let him go on the cheap, but I would be surprised if it’s much more than £20m. With a wage bill of £84m, we will surely want to reduce the wage bill and I doubt GD will have a reduced wage negotiated in his contract.
