I would say there is a chance both will still be with us at the beginning of the season. Deulofeu will only stay to prove his fitness, however he has to play some games for us in order to do that. Not many clubs would take a punt on a fee over £20m, which is likely what Watford would want for him, without knowing how fit he is and whether he has lost anything.

A different reason for Sarr to stay. He's someone we would not consider selling had we stayed up. He's not reached his optimum value yet, but playing the Championship is not likely to do much for his career. However, he's under a long contract and any bidding club would have to come in with a large fee. Around £50m I'd say, and he's not a £50m player yet.

We are holding all the cards with these two. Just depends how desperate they are to leave really, but I'm hopeful both will be still here come 12th September. Whether they'd be with us all season is another matter. Watford do have the option to loan him somewhere, and take him back if they get promoted.

So we can play this a couple of ways.

Sarr will be here next season. Who's going to stump up the money to prise him?

I think there is every chance Sarr will be our player next year but not sure he’ll ever feature in the championship.

Although the owners have made some seemingly panicked decisions this year, when it comes to transfers they generally operate with a very cool head.

Relegation is no doubt a massive financial blow, but with parachute payments and relegation clauses it’s by no means a disaster, yet.

Sarr is clearly likely to be the real deal, but when you spend money on a player nothing is ever guaranteed. This won’t be lost on the owners, however precarious our financial situation they won’t take the short term view. They won’t sell him unless they’re going to make at least £20m in profit, because they’ll see that as the bare minimum they could make by holding onto him and selling him later. not to mention the fact that as I mentioned earlier, they know they’ve got a good player and there is no guarantee in the future that if they ever spend £30m again that will be the case.

With Gerri I thought there was every chance he’d be with us because of his injury. But I think I read the international window closes in October? So would he not be recovered close to then?

Given his age and with full access to his medical records I reckon there'd be plenty of clubs prepared to take him on loan without necessarily worrying about seeing him play first. Especially if they could structure any fee paid based on how many games he manages for them. Obviously they key to that would be if he's likely to be back in training in September or December.

I agree a big money permanent move seems unlikely though.

Sarr will probably play then get sold on the last day of the transfer window.

Leaving no time for a replacement.

    BOTH!!!

As I have already said Duelofeu will stay at least until he is fully recovered as I doubt any team would pay the sort on money he is worth whilst he is still injured. Hopefully he will be with us until at least January, and if we are riding high in the Champ at that time we might be able to hang on to him even then.

As for Sarr he is not yet the finished article by a long way, so although he undoubtedly has great potential, again no team will pay us what he is worth at the moment, therefore it makes sense we should hang on to him until we can get the BIG MONEY he is worth, plus he will probably be a big asset to us in our quest to bounce strait back next season.

Most likely scenario is both go on a loan somewhere with a view to buy. Not impossible that we can keep a hold of them both (in particular Deulofeu), although realistically I'd be delighted with keeping Geri until January

People go on about us perhaps not having time to replace them, but we do have players waiting in the wings (if you pardon the pun), and of course you don't have to be as good as those two in order to be a very good Championship player. We've got Cucho, Pussetto, Pedro, Sema and Penaranda all on the books at the moment, I'm sure there are at least two good Championship players there

Not the way I look at it. Wishful thinking.
Del Boy would make a great addition for a team playing European games he’s the quality to be a very reliable back up and these teams can now come in with low ball offers and unsettle him plus the fact he’s been injured all the more reason to drop the price. Spunking £10m is nothing on him if he hardly played once he’s fit again they’d make that back on him and most clubs would now say he’s got us on his cv. And even if it never worked what’s £10m
Sarr same thing but they might have to spend at least what we paid. But they’ll swoop in like vultures and unsettle the players they desire. Player power will win in the end.

Either way it’s all quite annoying. Our squad according to many is a shambles and not good enough for the premier league, yet at least half of the first team are way too good for the championship and will leave.

One thing’s for sure, teams know they have to be careful with us. Gino is not afraid to take anyone to court. If he feels foul play has taken place then he won’t think twice about getting his lawyers on the phone.

I don’t think anyone will come in with a super lowball offer, Gino will take them to court. Gino has a valuation of both Deulofeu and Sarr. If that isn’t met, he won’t sell. Gino will want a minimum of £20mil for Deulofeu, but he will probably state £25mil. We won’t sell him for anything less than £20mil.

Sarr, as already stated in other posts, won’t be sold for anything under £40mil and that’s the absolute minimum. Even at £40mil Gino might be reluctant to do it. I would imagine Gino would probably tell clubs £60mil and compromise at £50-55mil.

The question is, are there clubs willing to pay that amount for those two players, when other more proven players will be available for the same price, maybe cheaper depending on contract situations. With Deulofeu coming back from a major knee injury, would you splash £20-25mil when you haven’t seen him action since returning? I wouldn’t. In a Covid market, that’s a big chunk of change for a player who would be considered a risk.

Potentially none of them, possibly both The Athletic said that we want 40-50 million for Sarr, we will still need to give Rennes money I assume, and I would be surprised if someone comes in and pays that for an unproven player given the current circumstances and he still has years left on his contract. The only way we get to keep Gerry is if hes still injured.

We should be using Traore as an example for Sarr. He went to the champo for a season and came back as one of the best wingers in the world.

Exactly. Whatever people now think of Gino, he is incredibly stubborn when it comes to selling high ticket players. If anyone thinks we'll be desperate to sell on the cheap, they'll be walking home empty handed.

Watford took all the risk, they pursued Sarr all transfer window, and in the end it probably cost them their Premier League status as they didn't do any other business apart from chasing him. They went to great lengths to get him, and it cost them big in more ways than one. So to think they'd just cash in on the cheap now, it's not going to happen.

Watford hold all the cards with Sarr. He's under a long contract and it will take a large bid to get him away from the club.

Deulofeu is a little different, and the only thing that will keep him at Watford is his condition after injury. There's a strong possibility he'll be still at the club when we kick off the season.

Traore went to the Championship when he was an immensely frustrating talent, who had just got relegated with 17 points with Villa. It was only really this season that he properly began to realise his promise. Compared to Traore back then, Sarr has been a revelation

You know when a team is tapping up a player. A super lowball offer is done to deliberately show interest, force the player to hand in a transfer request etc. That’s what got Liverpool “in trouble” with VVD and saints if I remember correctly?

Has he, though? He’s played decently in a few games but can we genuinely say he set the PL alight? He wasn’t much cop post-lockdown.

I think Sarr has all the talent to go on and become a real force in the game at one of the top clubs. But he is still raw and hasn't been helped by our form, troubles and awful attacking play.

If someone comes in for him, they are coming in for his potential. He's been half-decent for us - but saying he's been a revelation considering he cost us £30m-£40m is stretching it a bit.

  25. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

I tell a lie, Traore played just the one game in the Championship for Villa before moving to an only slightly better Middlesbrough team, where he was again very frustrating in the Premier League. He wasn't even that good in the Championship, and up until this season, his PL record stood at 66 games, one goal (not sure how many assists, but I don't think it was that many at all). Say what you like about Sarr, but he's been far better than that, and that's with Deeney to work with

Player power is massive agents get what they want. If they want to leave they’ll leave.
The only thing in our favour is long contracts, but they may have clauses in them but this is where I’m hopeful of Gino being savvy.
But look what just happened with that fella that went to marseille

Not sure you can draw any parallels from the Pape Gueye thing. He’d never even stepped foot inside Watford, let alone played for us. Deulofeu and Sarr are under contract - so while they can theoretically kick up a fuss, they can do it as much as they want. They can’t just start playing for someone else.

Players hold more player than they used to, mainly because of agents. But they don’t hold all the power.

Delefeou's injury is a serious one, especially for a player whose style of play puts stresses on the knees. Coming back from serious injury is often what slows a pacey player down. Even if he comes back to full recovery it may well take a lot of games to do so. And he has been at a number of clubs already where he has shown patchy performances. I'm not so sure there will be a big queue for him until there is plenty of concrete evidence he is ripping the Championship up on a regular basis. And that may take the best part of a season, if it ever happens. My early betting is he will be with us all next season.
Just as much an unknown quantity is Watford's financial situation: That may force their hands more than we know. But I hope not.

  32. Don’t worry Gino got this. He’s applying for credit cards under false names as we speak and maxing them out as fast as he can.

I think Sarr might, purely because potentially no one will pay what we want. The other option though, which wouldn't surprise me, is that we loan him out for the season, which would suck balls.

    Deulofeu will be gone sharpish.

Yes....this is how I'm seeing it too. He's going to take time to get match fit. I don't see the value in Watford loaning him, in a try before you buy scenario, to another club. From what I know of him, he's pretty loyal to people that treat him well. The club has treated him well, especially during his injury. They have looked after him and the fans have been good to him. He's the type that responds to being "loved" by supporters. I think he really likes it at Watford, but of course he's not married to it. He will move on at some point.

He knows he can force a move, but I don't think he will. I think he'll play for us to get back in shape, then may go in the January window.

True but what goods a player sulking. Deeney wanted a move from Walsall 10 years ago. He quoted saying he’d made a fuss used to make all the runs but then do little with the ball ( he now does neither ) just kick it away.
