Fair points and I agree on most parts, however I don't think Pedro was ever really brought in for last season he was only 17 at the start of the season.

Trouble is they hyped him up so much on social media that people thought he was the saviour and star man.

Maybe a little lesson learnt by a lot of people there ?

They were trying to get him a work permit.

    They're hardly going to say he's sh*t.

I've only just joined here and first post.
I had no idea the players didn't get the bonus payments from the cup final, what was the thinking behind that?
Surely a way to demoralise them even more than the result itself?

We established that those bonuses were related to the season before the Cup final season.

Nice too see a response. Not sure if that actually is Gino's words or a ghost writer but still at least it's something. They say they will learn from this season, but if fatty is still pulling the strings of any new manager than nothing has been learnt.

They've certainly made mistakes over the past 18 months but if their ownership stopped today it would be clear that they have done the club the world of good and they have moved the club forward.

No doubt the previous 18 months or so have been difficult to watch but that doesn't make them owners - it means they've made mistakes. I'm keen to see how they look to rectify those mistakes. Like any foreign owner they are here to make money and I have no issue with that, but what it does mean is they will need to be back in the Premier League ASAP. We've had a rough 18 months watching Watford, but you wouldn't bet against the next 18/24 months being a lot of fun.

Agree. Although we could bet against it if we turn out the same dross next season. It won't happen though. I do have faith we can turn what happened last season into a positive and learn, get a stable manager in who talks to and motivates the squad. Youth needs a chance, and we know with what HM has achieved, we do have that.

No we didn't. It was for the cup final season - and they were due to be paid this season and weren't.

I don't think he was particularly brought in for last season in a meaningful sense either; there were fans I saw talking about how he would help score the goals to take over the burden from Gray and our other useless strikers once he came in Jan, which I always thought was clearly stupid/wishful thinking.

But that doesn't preclude any coach from actually playing him when they see the situation we are in, how poor every one of our alternative options are continuing to be, and the relative capability of Pedro. There's also a difference between 'this isn't really your season, you're not a starter yet' and 'you're not getting any league minutes'. I don't think it would be unfair to say that we were the worst team in the league at integrating and giving minutes to youth/young players, and that has to have some kind of impact mentally on them.

In terms of Quina, Leventhal basically said exactly what I did about him in his 'what next' article that came out last night, so it's been noted.

What I've found bizarre in recent games, is that there has almost been a reluctance to give him minutes. 3-2 down against Arsenal, knowing only a win will save you with 10 mins to go....yet Chalobah and Cleverley are brought on before him?

This is what I don’t get. Ok, he might not have been brought in to be a regular starter for last season, but since the restart we went behind in every single game and sometimes by more than one goal. I don’t really see the downside in giving him more game time in games we were losing, which was every single one of them.

I'm not sure Michael Owen or Wayne Rooney were ever intended for their break-out seasons when they were 16/17. These things just happen.

Problem was that we employed grinders to get us out of trouble. I doubt anyone has accused QSF or Pearson of playing expansive attacking football. I can see why Mullins wouldn't have played him against City or start him against Arsenal due to wanting to keep it tight - but there's no obvious reason why an exciting, pacey striker who can seemingly cross the ball would have been overlooked for the games we were targeting to win - West Ham, Burnley etc.

By the skin of their teeth, as much thanks to VAR as their recruitment.

They spent almost £150mil last season, a lot of that was on dross and they overpaid with many of their signings.

Samatta was samatta - only 1 goal in 946 minutes for £10mil.

He wasn't the only rubbish signing though - £14mil for Targett, £10mil for Nakamba, £8mil for Engels, £12mil for Konsa, Drinkwater on loan, all real stinkers.

Konsa always looked alright when I saw him. Came from the Brentford stable and only 22, yet played 30 times for Villa this season. Bit harsh to put him in the stinker category with the others.

Ha, I just realised I actually was thinking of Hause who was rubbish, got their names mixed up - Villa looked more solid defensively at the end of the season when Hause got injured and Konsa switched to CB. Hause used to give the ball away for fun. Only cost £3mil but was still a stinker.

Konsa was a bit of a nothing at full-back still for the money, but does have time on his side and looked much better at CB.

Leopards don't change their spots so fully expect coach changes when the wheels come off.
As much as I think we would have been more effective playing two up top surely it has to be down to the coach to play whatever system he wants

To be fair, if the wheels fully come off, then I have no problem with them changing coaches. But its changing coaches at the first sign of trouble that needs to stop.

Part of the problem may have been that he didn't speak English and couldn't understand what was being said to him on the pitch.
