Woeful first half. As I feared, we’re still awful, just Norwich are marginally worse. We’re stuck on 31 points for the season with -5 or -6 GD coming our way against City. 3 points for Bournemouth or 4 points for Villa in their remaining four games and we’re down.
That one misplaced by Sarr towards the end, when he tried to play it out to Hughes (?) but it got cut out by their defender. Couldn't you see that coming a mile off?
Bittersweet penalty. Could mean survival, probably means new contract and 3 more years of watching this.
A spell of good play, couple of big chances not taken. How Troy didnt finish his chance I'll never know...On the basis we only play well for 10 mins and then give up need to get a goal while we are on top. Huge 5 minutes....
Shame it’s not like American Football and we could have him come on as our penalty taker! Give him his credit, he’s held his nerve in a few crucial penalties over the years.

Goodness knows why it takes another 45 minutes to wake up. Pressed up and should have scored a couple more. Mind you Newcastle must have imbibed some mogadon in their drinks. One more point should do it. But a win at West Ham would be great.

Very good second half, when you’re down the bottom and struggling Newcastle’s back line imploding and giving away two completely stupid pens is exactly the luck you need.
Fair play to Big Nige and the lads, we were far from good, but noticeable difference in the 2nd half. Deserve credit.
My goodness. What a strange game. We were awful until the first penalty, then pretty good afterwards. That second penalty was the stupidest bit of defending ever seen. Both penalties were identical and amazing that neither was saved. The two misses from open play by Deeney were dreadful, as was some of our other decision making. That cameo is probably one of Gray's best ever performances, really helped run the clock down.
Knew it... Awful first half, but second half comfortably the best we've played since Liverpool, although that's not saying much. Will be amazed if we even need another point to stay up now. No idea how we've done it.
Absolutely shocking 1st half. Much better in the 2nd. We cut out the hoof, played much higher up the pitch, more movement, and started passing the ball... and lo and behold things start to happen. As poor as Dawson has been for most of the season he’s been decent since the restart.
Credit where it’s due: brilliant second half. Better intensity, more bodies forward and a deserved win. Deeney showed great nerve on the penalties. Shame we couldn’t take any of the chances we created in open play but a win’s a win.
Deeney deserves a lot of stick this season, but credit where it's due. He single handedly wins points in a handful of games each season. 3/4 of the time you barely notice him on the pitch, but he is one of the few players in the whole league that can bend the game in our favour through his personality. The nerve he had to take the 2nd penalty was unreal. I thought overall we were genuinely good. Newcastle weren't up to much - maximim is a bone shaker of Sucess, all arms and legs but no real end product. The ref was horrendous apart from the penalties, we were never able to get into a rhythm with him blowing up every time we made a tackle.
I've been as sick as anyone at Deeney recently, but fair ****s: It takes big old balls to smash not one but two penalties home in these circumstances. Huge, huge goals and huge points.
We're safe. Not just the points but GD will also help us if we finish equal, unless Man City wipe us out. Can't see Villa getting 7 points from 12 and can't see Bournemouth getting 6 from 12 and bettering our goal difference in that time. 1 point of course confirms it but so does a loss for Bournemouth today for me. Villa are gone.
Fair play to Deeney putting the 2 penalties away when everything else he did seemed to g9 wrong. I was surprised that he jogged off so fast when subbed, thought he’d try to waste some time. Massive relief. Not over though.

Thought we got a bit lucky for the second penalty. Don't know how we didn't score a couple more- lack of composure/ poor decision making. Deeney will never get a better chance for a premier League hat-trick. Antonio got 4 today. Going to be fun when we play the Spam
