I'm sure he's been mentioned before but I can't find anything on here, so... Wu Lei has supposedly been 'offered' to Watford. The only other club mentioned to be interested are Wolves but they seem to be fading from the picture. He's a 28-year old left winger/forward with Espanyol. The La Liga side are apparently struggling with the financial fall-out of Covid-19 and are looking to offload a few players. Transfermarkt has his contract running out this summer but the club has a 1-year option to extend it. Capped over 60 times and made his first team debut before his fifteenth birthday. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ed-Chinese-Maradona-Wolves-cool-interest.html https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lei-wu/profil/spieler/140436 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Lei
Oh goody, a chance to put a Chinese name on the back of our new Kelme shirt and break into the Asian market. Hooray.
To be fair, the article says we've been offered him and not that we're chasing his signature. But yes, I imagine it will appeal to the money side of the clubs business along with any actual footballing reason for signing him.
Big nope from me. Has the same number of La Liga goals over the last 2 seasons as Cucho (who hasn't set La Liga alight himself), admittedly in 1000 less minutes but also playing in a better side (well, last season anyway). 28 as well which means he's unlikely to improve at all. Do we want a 28 year old striker who can't even get 5 goals in La Liga?
Having read the following piece on Espanyol and Wu Lei a few months ago, he actually sounds like a pretty decent player. Here's the link: https://theathletic.co.uk/1797347/2020/05/09/espanyol-barcelona-china/
I did read earlier that Espanyol have Chinese owners or backers, kelme kit and obviously him. But also a crazy amount from China are now watching their games too.
This guy would be perfect for us as he has no end product. But on the other hand he's a hard worker so he'd stick out like a sore thumb in this squad.
Good for you. I was stating about people living in China now watching Espanyol! https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/la-liga-espanyol-wu-lei-china-a8767756.html Maybe an adult should help you with your reading.
He's quick and can finish and of course gives us a boost in shirt sales as he is one of the biggest football stars in China, he is Espanyols biggest shirt seller and in his first Espanyol game an estimated 40 million people tuned into watch him play in China.
Whoa, whoa Wu-Lei, If we love you truly, You know we want you, Wu-Lei, to be, be our very own. S Stevens The eighties
