Only a few games to go, who’s the current favourite for player of the season?

(I was tempted to put a nobody option but it would get 100% of the votes so what’s the point)

    Hughes I think.

There honestly isn’t one. Sarr at a push I'd say.

Hughes for me. After final game put a new poll for Donkey of the season.

My opinion has changed through the season but at the moment it’s definitely Hughes.
The only player to show passion, effort, commitment and professionalism atm.

Masina gets an honourable mention and Sarr is a young future star.

The rest of the error strewn, lazy, moaning, political, unprofessional gutless wonders can do one.

Comes to something where the winner of player of the season is based on being bothered to play for the team.

It also comes to something when your potential POS has one goal and one assist for the season.

    My thoughts as well.
    1. Hughes
    2. Sarr
    3. Masina

It helps that you can clearly see they give a toss as well. Masina constantly cajoling working hard. Ditto for Hughes. The disappointment in Sarr when he sees the donkey is still outside the 18 yard area while he has delivered another peach of a ball. If we had strikers who actually attacked the box Sarr would have several more assists by now.

Apart from last few games Foster has been one of the best keepers in league , Shot stopping wise . Kicking he s been pants , but I don’t care about that .

I thought Foster or Capoue for most of the season, but Masina really stepped up around the new year and I thought maybe he’d be my choice.

Now though it’s got to be Hughes. His commitment makes him the only player I can respect. He’s not the most talented player in our squad but of late he’s been by far the most effective.

I agree. He has saved us many more points than he’s cost us this season. Foster and Hughes for me.

Hughes winning player of the season purely for putting a shift in (despite the fact he isn't really any good) would just totally sum up how pathetic the rest of the team have been this season. ******* embarrassment to the club the lot of them.

    Hughes or Sarr.

Hughes because he looks a half decent player now that after however many years the club has finally realised that putting him on the wing is like putting Anthony McNamee at centre back, and Sarr because he's our only player (other than crocked Deulofeu) he has the balls and intent to run at people and attack.

Bloomin eck - can't we just wait a couple of weeks until the season has actually finished before doing this?

Also lol at everyone voting for Hughes, he's been good since Pearson took over, but for the entirety of the season before that he's more resembled Albert Steptoe than a professional footballer.

Sarr probably for the Liverpool result.
Hughes has shown a lot of pluck and guts when we need it.
Masina has impressed and I hope the best is yet to come from him.

The rest can get in the sea

I think some of these responses suffer from decency bias. Plenty were moaning about Hughes earlier in the season when he played “on the wing”.

I’d go with Foster, Capoue and then Hughes, but really, no one has really shone this season.

Big Ben is the man IMO!!!

Hughes has been great since we've restarted, but only OK before lock down. Whereas Ben has been mostly reliable all season, although he does of course have the occasional moment, but what GK doesn't :)

I agree with Hughes and Masina, but I'm surprised about the lack of love for Deulofeu. I thought that he was one of the only players who really stepped up and didn't hide when it became clear that we were struggling this season, and he was one of the last players I would've expected to see respond in that way to a relegation battle. It goes without saying that we would have gained more points recently had he not been injured.

I voted Gray. Putting on an extra curricular training session in his garden on his birthday really shows a level of dedication above and beyond the rest of the squad.

    Masina.

While I get the suggestions for Hughes/Sarr/Foster - Marina is the only one who has kept a consistent level of ‘okay, 7/10’ all season. The rest have dipped below that too often.

In fairness I think the vast majority of that criticism was of the fact he was being played on the wing, not that he was crap. I remember specific detractors saying he should be in the centre or not starting, not that he should be completely dropped.

Hughes definitely isn't a winger or a wide midfielder, something I think we can almost all agree on!

But the point still stands that people were criticising his performances on the wing. If you asked people then if they thought he was one of our best players, they’d laugh at the idea.

What people failed to recognise at the time was that he was playing as a wide playmaker, rather than a winger. When we were out of possession he stayed out wide and supported the wing back, but when we had the ball in an attacking position he drifted inside and the wing back overlapped.

He was playing more like Bernardo Silva/ Foden do in City’s system, rather than playing as an actual winger.

Seems like a lovely guy and was in good form before the enforced break but has started only half the games and was a dozy liability when he first got in the team this season.
