Chalobah just seems to be a really nice bloke.

When Kane Crichlow of the u23s broke his ankle last year (earlier this year? What's the date - is it still March 128th?) he moved in with Chalobah & his girlfriend to help him rehabilitate.

His friendship with Quina has been highlighted by the club in the past so who knows what the arrangements are at the moment.

I know. And my point is that the club stood by him and the fans forgave him. Yet some are saying Gray should be sacked and can’t move on even though he’s apologised. People make mistakes. This is a pretty stupid one to make - but the apology has been made and it won’t serve the club well to have it hanging over the squad. Fine him, accept his apology and move on.

That 'apology' from Gray was s***. He had to have a little dig in there by saying it wasn't a proper party and was finished early. Why? Just give a proper apology with no excuses. Quina's apology came across much better. As for Chalobah it seems like he's the innocent victim in this.

I wish we could just release Gray now but I guess we could still get a few mill for him in the Summer. I already feel sorry for the club he's going to move too.

From a selfish perspective... Troy was 23/24 when he had his troubles and was beginning to become a good Championship striker. Gray is 29 now, and has offered very little in the past year. We should have made it our priority to get him out of the club anyway, and now this

Troy came back and gave his all for the club after his troubles. He was probably the best striker we'd ever had in the Championship. It's proof that with hard work you can turn into a better player. I've very rarely seen Gray work his a*** off for this club so the chances of him coming back with extra motivation I'd say is very slim.

£18 million f*cking pounds for this bloke. When he came on for Deeney against Burnley I just laughed out loud. Then we kept pumping long balls up to him. Jesus.
Then he goes and proves he's f*cking stupid on top.

I say, remove the trio from the squad and even sack AG; he's toxic to the squad ethos. As are some others under the radar as they weren't at this event.

Gray's apology is hollow and conditional. Its not sincere. He's almost making out he's the victim. His star quality in his own head from recent interviews and public appearances is unjustified based on his abilities as a bang average striker. I've only ever seen barely concealed and unjustified rage from him. Directed towards his own supporters. Yet now he has use this as an outlet on his perceived wrongs in society.

He is clearly an alpha male in this squad, based on personality, money and his edgy background which he never fails to get PR for.

If his actual standing was based on his value in creating or scoring goals, it'd be much lower.

He clearly couldn't give a toss and the "apology" is not fulsome because it appears he only gave it as he was "caught".

I would not be surprised if, because of his "popularity" some squad players felt the trio being suspended by the club was unfair, while others have to keep their disgust to themselves for the sake of being ostracised or sent to Coventry. Especially in the current spirit of No Platforming and Social Shaming of anyone having a critical view of BLM / Brexit / Extinction Rebellion / Younameit.

You’ve linked Andre Gray and Extinction Rebellion somehow. That’s quite a feat!

One question - how do you as a fan on a football forum know that Andre Gray is toxic in the squad?

Because he roped 2 other squad players to defy lockdown rules perhaps?

Relax, everyone knows viruses only spread at "proper parties" and not at any other ill advised gathering of people.

He really is a ******* idiot and they should cut him loose after that spectacular equivocal non apology.

  14. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

It took a lot of people quite some time to forgive Deeney. And even then it was because he made the effort on the pitch to win over the fans.

Can't say I'm confident we'll see the same with Gray.

In an ideal world gray should be sacked but won't be because however bad people think he is he still has a transfer value and a club of our size can't just write this off

Gray will probably get the winner in one of the next few games and then go back to doing nothing for the next 10 games he's involved in.

    I can see it now:

"Amazing, just as it looked like Man City were going to be held to a draw after Watford came from 0-2 down against against all the odds, Andre Gray pops up with a crazy 93rd minute own goal..."

I think it unfair to use the word roped
He most likely invited them and the went.
Yes Gray is an idiot and deserves criticism but those who attended are equally guilty of stupidity as I doubt they attended under duress.
If We criticise Gray we should criticise the others equally.
It feels as though Gray is being targeted more for his failures on the pitch than the party.
Yes he was an idiot but if Deeny had done the same would people be using his past misdemeanors to criticise him so much.
I do think he and all who attended were idiots and let the club down but maybe We should be a little more balanced.

Bit of confusion as to was he there or not ?

Club did say 2 players in their original statement about the party and some are suggesting Chalobah had to pull out as he lives with Quina.

It's the national papers who have branded Chalobah as being involved in the party.

Where he reiterates it wasnt a late night party. It's clear hes trying to justify himself when saying that. He has completely missed the point. Any party at any time is stupid right now.

    1. Reported than only Quina attended. So unlikely to have got Chalobah directly involved.
    2. Roped!? I’m sure he didn’t blackmail anyone into going. Quina is a grown man. Old enough to make his own decisions. If he decided to attend, then it’s fully on him and his poor decision making. Blaming Gray for Quina’s actions is odd.

So again, how is he ‘toxic’ in the squad? Given the regular photos we see of training, he seems a well liked member of the squad.

Has he repaid what we spent on him? No. But he didn’t chose the fee we decided to pay. I think a lot of people forget the key goals (and assist) he scored/made that went a very long way to making last season enjoyable and giving a lot of us good memories that will last well into the future. This is an idiotic, but as yet isolated, single mistake he’s made with us so far in terms of his attitude.

As I’ve noted, Gray has been involved in some key moments last season that made great memories for the fans who are having a go at him here and now. That’s easily forgotten.

But branding someone ‘toxic’ when you don’t know them at all, or claiming his teammates find him ‘toxic’ is simply strange no? There is simply no evidence to back it up.

Well like ee said with the people who wanted the season to start at all costs he clearly wasn't worried about the Coronavirus and it's impact or the guidelines.

Makes our position on making sure all is well and safe before football starts look weaker when it's two of our players not keeping their distance etc and ensuring they are in a bubble.

I was going to say that we could put Gray in goal to really embarrass him.

Then I realised we could just put him up front instead.

As a defender, you would never, ever pass back to him - it would roll under his foot or bounce off.

Which I don’t disagree with. But he’s apologised and sure he’s been fined. The club are in a dire position right now so it needs people pulling together ASAP - prolonging this issue or making it a cloud that lingers over the club does no one any favours. It’s happened, everyone should accept the apologies and move on IMO. Gray may well be moved on in the summer but all this talk of being ‘toxic’ or sacking him is a bit hysterical.

"Toxic" is a bit strong, I agree, but he shouldn't have had a party, and he shouldn't have invited any players due to the high stakes of being right in the middle of a relegation battle. I couldn't care less what past "key moments" he's given me as I struggle to remember them, and on Friday, his mind should have been on the Southampton game. not kicking about with (possibly) some boozed up mates that might like to lunge in to win the ball off a pro footballer causing injury.

He's a fully grown adult, what does he want a twenty-ninth birthday party for anyway?

In fairness after Fosters display against Southampton if you put Gray in goal you might embarrass Ben.
    He might actually do better.

You struggle to remember that he scored the goal that took us to Wembley? You struggle to remember his assist for a goal that won us that game? Really?

However, you won’t find me disagreeing with the party and I’ve not defended him. It was idiotic. He shouldn’t have invited the players but he can’t be blamed for Quina being naive enough to attend - that’s on Quina who is old enough to know better.

I’m just saying it does no one any good to dwell on the issue given the mess the club find themselves in.

And I’m not sure of the value of anyone bring up his past misdemeanours that happened well before he was with us, that he apologised for and served a ban for. He’s done plenty of publicised charity work that I think makes amends for that naive immature career misstep.

I never said the virus has vanished. It is still here and it is important to take precautions. However, I do not believe that there will be a second wave ( as opposed to slight increase) this summer as evidenced by fewer cases of illness since the easing of the lockdown on May 10th. If there is a major second wave then it will in my opinion be in late autumn/ winter. Even US politicians and scientists have said this. Just my opinion.
