Yes clearly the part we were most concerned about was that he may have stayed up past his usual bedtime...

    What a moron.

Seems like he’s damned if he does or doesn’t. He’s apologised to his teammates, his manager and done a public apology and says he’s willing to do what he can to make it right.

I don’t read it as him justifying his actions and he’s clearly acknowledging there is something to say sorry for. He’s just aware that the media like to twist things to make it look as bad as possible so is clarifying that although it was wrong, it’s not totally accurate what is being said. I don’t see the problem with that.

Let’s be honest - a lot of people don’t like him so won’t accept whatever apology he’d have come up with regardless.

I often think it's unfair the abuse some players get when a club signs them for an overpriced fee on a gamble and it doesn't work out, such as Ellington.

If you're reading this Andre, I'm not bitter that you haven't scored lots of goals. I think you're a bad person

    Make them play on Saturday.

Ha. I work in job where we sometimes deal in apologies. The best I’ve ever seen is “We’ve been instructed by [X] to apologise to you. This is that apology.”

This is basically the equivalent of that.

Well, any apology demanded by the psychic, wheelchair bound professor and leader of a team of super mutants is good enough for me.

It wasnt a late night party so it's absolutely fine.

Baffling why the clubs PR team didn't just write the apology for them, like every other team would. Shoddy club from top to bottom.

I think some here are over-reacting to to his apology. We all know social media comments lose key aspects of visual communication (how something is said, body language etc). I doubt he has a literary agent to help him

    - OMG he's used exclamation marks! (yes, and...?)
    - Oooo he says it wasn't a late night party! (Doesn't mean he says it was OK)

He was stupid. He's apologised. He'll be punished by the club. Criticising him like a bunch of judgemental gossips is a bit immature really.

    Criticising him is not immature.

What is immature is holding a birthday party that defies current government rules, posting it over social media to 170k followers and potentially putting players, their families and other members of the public at danger because he wanted friends to sing happy birthday to him.

    Where has he said that?

Think if the media had reported things about me that were factually incorrect, I’d want to set the record straight.
Which he has apologised for. And some still aren’t happy.

Endlessly repeating the mistake he made doesn’t make it worse.

Quina and Chalobah went to the party so are just as guilty. Yet 99.9% of the criticism is aimed at Gray. Chalobah hasn’t even apologised yet...if people are still desperate for someone to criticise, how about starting with the person who hasn’t apologised rather than the person who has?

I think a big problem for a lot is that with the team in the dire situation they are in players should be a bit more professional, the fact they could have a party breaking rules after their lacklustre displays and on the brink of relegation just gives the impression they really dont give a toss.
Then posting it on social media is just a fingers up to those who are feeling the pain of the clubs current position

Has it actually been confirmed that Chalobah was there, or was he missing because he lives with Quina?

I don't think Chalobah was there. The statement put out by the club two days ago says it was aware 2 players were in breach of lockdown protocol. It does seem he's been dragged into this affair via his friendship, and possible living arrangements, with Quina.

So anyone who has done something bad is a bad person forever?
He’s done 2 things you’ve noted and apologised for both. He admitted he wasn’t a nice person back then and has said he’s changed his attitude.

What about the work he does with the anti-knife charity ‘Knives Down’? What about the work he’s done with charities regarding talking to kids about the perils of being in gangs?

Doesn’t fit the narrative of him being a bad person to me.

  22. It might be a **** apology, but it's still more of an apology than we've had from the useless ****s on Sunday

I didn't say criticising him was immature, in fact I criticised him - I said he was stupid.

I said that criticising him like a bunch of judgemental gossips was immature. Reading some comments in this thread I was envisioning a neighbourhood gossip saying something like "Well, you know I don't like to gossip, but... (goes on to gossip, embellishing the story with prejudicial opinions)" whilst anyone who wants to listen choruses "Ooooooo I knoooow" (like Sybil Fawlty), all nodding their heads in condemnation, all trying their best to be more outraged than the the other.

And doing it whilst his team are staring relegation in the face, in between two non performances against potentially bearable opposition.

He's apologised. He's advised on his reasoning and what I think Watford fans want us to do now is to move on and continue with our great plans for levelling up our relegation fight.

I agree with this and thank God that I was not in the media glare in my early twenties but I must say having a party and posting it on social media during an epidemic and while being criticised for performances leading up to our current crisis is simply stupid.
It certainly doesn't make him a bad person but it suggests he has no empathy with the supporters

He was 20/21 when he did that. Same age as Quina is now. Yet some are saying Quina is young and impressionable and easily led astray etc etc. So we can’t afford Gray the same leeway?

He’s apologised. The captain of this club literally went to prison for a violent attack when he actually played for us. And he’s not vilified anywhere near as much as Gray.

Gray apologised for his earlier misdemeanours. They simply aren’t relevant to this matter.

Was it Gray who posted the photos?

Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot !

    Mind you he'd probably miss.

BTW bet Deeney did get loads of stick at the time of his arrest and jailing.
