More concerning for myself is that Burnley's third and forth choice strikers are better than our first choice. Tbf we got what we deserved nowhere good enough anywhere on the pitch. Pozzo should bite the bullet and beg Dyche to come back. We wouldn't see a effin spineless display like todays with him in charge.
What’s stupid about this comment is Troy says ‘no excuses’ - but I want excuses or reasons for whatever that performance was. If they don’t have any, then I find that even more worrying because that means that performances like that will repeat themselves. Get to the root of why it happens and fix it. Saying they have no excuses makes me think they don’t know what they need to do. Troy will never be dropped. Gray isn’t the answer. And the jury is still out on Welbeck. But I’d like to see Joao Pedro given a game now, rather than just continually rotating options that haven’t worked all season.
Same for everyone else in a similar position tbf, if you can even look that far into games that took place months ago. Gone from being about 80% confident to about 50%
Get stuffed Deeney you immobile spokesman. We are tired of your sound bites. Joao Pedro in for you next game. Don’t care if he isn’t ready at least he will move about a bit.
Not world ending but terribly disappointing. Think Welbeck did well off the ball with his pressuring and helping keep the ball but he also cost us in key moments elsewhere. Pedro should have come on for at least half an hour for him. Deeney did well in everything but scoring the crucial goal. Created most of the chances we had in combination with Welbeck and Sarr. I think Cathcart and Dawson is the way forward. We may have conceded 2nd half with them but that's only as Dawson carried us in the first half. We lack the creativity after 60 minutes and we resort to long balls. Gray was never getting into things we punted long.
**** performance, Pearson has a lot to answer for, but perspective. Huge opportunity missed, even a draw would have been OK I guess, but we're still 17th, and shouldn't ignore that half the league is utter *****, and we still have to play a lot of those ***** teams
It’s crazy to think we let Vydra go and now we have Gray. The amount of chances Gray has missed over the years that were bread and butter for Vydra. We always seem to bottle the big games these days. We never turn up when we need to.
The majority of sides are playing **** because they've barely kicked a ball in anger together for 3 months. I'm surprised just how **** the games have been considering these are supposed to be players at the top of their profession but to judge anything on these matches is pointless. They're a lottery and are, in effect, pre-season friendlies dressed up in the most ill fitting clothing as EPL games. Football is dying a little more each time it panders to the people ploughing money in to it through sponsorship and TV rights. To be fair, Vydra missed two guilt edged chances today - the lob onto the post & a shot saved by Foster after cutting inside Cathcart.
I stand to be corrected but think that in league games; 1/ The last time we won after going behind was Spurs at home in Sept 18-nearly 2 seasons ago 2/ The last time we won away after being behind was in Sept 16 at West Ham-thats over 70 games ago 3/ The last time we won away after being behind in the second half was 5 years ago in Feb 15 at Leeds (Vydra with 2) No wonder i stopped watching once we went a goal down.
Burnley, who i imagine have less money than us, were missing 2 strikers who are very competent in playing in their style and score goals, and were still able to replace them with 2 more, 1 of which showed more ability in 1 crucial moment than we've witnessed most of the season. And then there's us, the usual Troy regardless of fitness and form, and then laughably he comes off...to be replaced by Gray....and we still play the same style of lump it up to him. I've said it before, I'm not anti Troy at all, he's done great for us, but I can't bare the thought of seeing another season as him as our main man.
He won fouls, caused issues in the air and was involved with our only bits of coherent attacking play in passing it on, the only thing he didn't do well was getting shots off, excluding the cleared header off the line and Welbeck taking it from him early on.
It looked like Cleverley was left side of the 4 but kept drifting inside when we were in possession. Which caught us out as he just never seemed involved neither did capoue that first half. ***** what ever way we look at it. Hope your right with Southampton but they’ve done well away this season Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Playing Cleverley meant that we were never going create anything from midfield. We are in deep trouble and relegation looks extremely likely given our terrible form. Watford, Norwich and Villa or West Ham to go down. Brighton have found form. Bournemouth will survive as usual. We could finish bottom or 19th at best. We will be in the Championship for a good few seasons. Today was simply awful. A piss poor performance from a side which had no clue what to do or adhere to a pattern of play. Bye bye Premier league.
Rose tinted spectacles. No movement whatsoever. He needs cutting out of the side permanently so we can build a decent playing style. He's a stale man in a stale gutless team.
Definitely first 20 mins or so yes. He didn't do anything after the drinks break though neither, doesn't have anywhere near the dynamism as Doucoure, even if today wasn't one of his better games
No doubt that was a terrible performance and it’s hard to see from that where we are going to get a win from . However .... I do t think we can Exocet to see liverpool standard performances given the lack of football Over the last 3 months . This match was essentially the equivalent of a 3rd pre -season friendly and the players are showing it. Burnley no doubt we’re more organised than Watford and made fewer errors . Because if Burnley’s style of play we were never likely to get Sarr in behind much or break effectively . I’m hoping we’ll have more chance of this vs Southampton . We didn’t seem to press much in the first half and I’m not sure if this was a tactic to conserve energy given the heat but that us very unlike this Watford side recently . Yes we need to pick up the performances and it could be very depressing if we just limp to relegation . We are going to have to get a few results as Bournemouth /west ham/villa are going to get a couple of wins almost certainly . But sadly I think this is where we are .with these bizarre circumstances , I’m not going to go mental and blame the Pozzos , as this squad is more than good enough and I don’t think these players are gutless and don’t care. Prior to lockdown our home form was excellent Under Pearson and I would have been Confident that we would have won enough home games to stay up . This is a whole new ball game now and I dont know if we are going to be able to play ourselves into form.lets hope we can .
"we go again"? Ffs, surest sign yet the club are all out of ideas - now they're even nicking our outdated memes!
Well, l wanted to be positive. You could be right. We could be in freefall and it could br years before we ever reach the play offs in the Championship. Complete and utter crap from Watford.
We are down. I do not see where we will gain another point this season. It was such an awful performance. Ok, Burnley are boring and one dimensional, but we were clueless. If we lose against Southampton, then that will be it. All confidence will drain from the fans as it has done already from the players. We could remain on 28 points on the form so far. Nous sommes de la merde.
Why do people say the squad is “more than good enough”? A collection of mentally weak mercenaries combined with ageing substandard defenders and an immobile loud captain who can’t be dropped because Pozzo recruitment has been so poor.
We looked like a team that is down and out already. No passion, no desire to get right at Burnley, we weren't even able to string 5 passes together in the first half. As much as I admire Cleverley's work rate, he's not a number 10- we missed Doucoure in the first half. I think this really shows how reliant we were on Deulofeu. Give it to him and hope he does something- now that's been passed to Sarr. Welbeck was a gamble that hasn't paid off, Deeney is Deeney and Gray is not who we should be turning to on the bench for something different, but unfortunately he's all we've really got and Pearson does not seem to want to throw Pedro on to see what he can do. Really think we're in big trouble now- we cannot keep relying on the three below us to be worse than we are. Somehow they seem to be, but surely one of Villa, West Ham and Bournemouth will pick up a win from somewhere and when, not if that happens, I don't believe we have the desire to produce what it takes to get us out. We won't beat Southampton or Chelsea so we NEED 3 points against both Norwich and West Ham, with a draw against Newcastle, or we're done
Disappointing. But Norwich are gone and Villa, Muff and West Ham are crap too. I hope we can do better but if the worst comes to the worst we can afford one of that lot overtaking us.
Both chances which he effectively made himself through pace and movement, which our strikers lack, and he still got closer with them than ours would have. He's Burnley's 3rd choice for a reason, but still better than the pointless sacks of meat that pass for strikers at our club.
You're asking remarkably little of a striker in a plight such as ours. Winning 2 or 3 fouls is not a day's work.
