Leagues 1 And 2

So the EFL Leagues 1 and 2 have voted to stop their seasons. Some might argue that this is preferable to completing the season under altered conditions and even rules, but I will never understand why promotion and relegation has to happen when the fixtures have not been completed.
Oh, and by the way, why on earth do they still have to hold the play-offs?

Simply because the FA wanted no totally voided seasons.

I am sure the likes of Stevenage and Tranmere have got lawyers on the case already.

I guess having the play offs placates teams maybe who have missed out on automatic promotion giving them another chance.

What is the rationale behind the FA wanting no totally voided seasons? I maintain this would not have happened if the season had been halted after, say, 20 games.

If having the play offs placates teams who have missed out on automatic promotion, it certainly doesn't placate the likes of Peterborough who have missed out even on the play-offs through an arbitrary calculation of points per game (not adjusted for home and away games).

I agree but as the Championship, L1 & L2 are all under the same organisation they can all vote on how they promote or relegate between the divisions themselves, when it involves another organisation such as the National League and Premier League it would be unfair to transfer those teams without playing any more. This is why the Championship is going ahead because it would not be right to promote Leeds now as they haven't yet earned promotion.

That's a decent explanation why the Championship needs to be completed, but if leagues 1 and 2 cannot complete there really doesn't have to be any promotion and relegation between the three EFL divisions. Also, why have promotion and relegation between League 2 and the National League, two different organisations, neither of which are completing their seasons?

Theo Robinson coming on for Colchester. Randell Williams looking lively for Exeter.

Great free kick from Bramall to score at the keepers near post from wide out on the right. Advantage Colchester. Plenty of fruity language too.

This year’s League 1 and 2 playoffs: the most pointless games in the history of football?

Not for the teams who get promoted!

But playing in a ground and on TV probably.

Going to look a bit silly at an empty Wembley.

The point is that, after curtailing the season, the League have arbitrarily promoted and relegated teams anyway. So what’s the point of the play-offs? Just promote the next team on whatever basis you’re using.
You might argue it would be unfair on teams in the play-off places, but it’s already unfair on the teams just outside the play-off places who might easily have been in them at the end of the season.

The daughters boyfriend is a Mansfield season ticket holder. Their owners keep pumping money in. Already they have signed four players for next season. I have gone a couple of times with him to away matches when they are down here. It’s a different experience. Enjoyable, a bit like watching Tv from 1980s. The away support is raucous, a bit of an edge to it.

Lower league football is an enjoyable day out. Priced correctly, post Covid Restriction, i can see it having a boom in attendance.

Luton will be back where they belong I suspect.

I also find the decision not to end the season once and for all and simply maintain the status quo for next season bizarre and unfair, I think Portsmouth would have gone up automatically with Coventry had it been business as usual.

    Wycombe 1-0 up at HT.

Be their first ever promotion to the 2nd tier if they hold on.

    Phenomenal!

I, like a fair few of you I'd imagine, was born in High Wycombe and I never thought that little team would get so far. Could even be playing them next season. Started the season with 9 players! Congratulations Wycombe, thoroughly deserved for a thoroughly good team.

Well done Wycombe, but hopefully we won't be playing you for some time unless you get back to back promotions. Having said that I expect we'll be playing you guys in a pre-season friendly or two in the meantime :)

    CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHAIRBOYS.

Wycombe initially had 9 players preseason, have the smallest budget and were favourites to go down.
Fantastic achievement to get to the Championship.
Such a pity it was played out at an empty Wembley.
It’s a fairy tale like Yeovil Town and I hope it doesn’t end up like Yeovil..

Maybe Ainsworth can afford to get a haircut now and stop playing in a rock band ... lol

On the topic of Yeovil, Carl ****inson's boys (managed by Darren Sarll) lost out in the National League play-off eliminator against Barnet who featured a certain Scott Loach, who seemed to have a forcefield around his goal, he played OK, but I have no idea how Yeovil didn't score. Potential for a local derby with Boreham Wood now for Barnet

No one seems to have commented that a Watford old boy Neal Ardley could be taking Notts County back up to the Football League on Sunday (they have to beat Harrogate Town at their place which might be tougher than if they were playing them at Wembley). OK he should and maybe could have done better than take them down last season, but he's done well to put them in that position (very hard league for any club to take promoted out of at the first attempt) and shows what can happen if you put faith in your manager to put things right (board take note!).

Oh sorry, they are playing at Wembley, I thought they wouldn't bother with no fans there!

Harry Kewell to take over at Oldham. Replaces Maamria ex of Stevenage. Eight managers in two seasons. Not bad. No spotlight on this of course because League Two is not newsworthy.

    The PFA aren't happy.

'We are disappointed at the outcome of today’s votes. The EFL has ignored its legal obligation to consult with the PFA and the PFNCC. As such, the legal advice we have received is clear that the salary cap envisaged by the EFL would be unlawful and unenforceable.'

Gordon Taylor should take a look at himself in the mirror the hypocrite. If clubs go out of business in the short term the moron there won't any jobs for future members. The guy is an odious revolting ***** who gets paid a fortune for doing nothing apart from making stupid suggestions time and time again. He'll be out wasting PFA funds on this when anyone with common sense can see many clubs especially without crowds and hospitality income for match days are going to have to cut wages drastically anyway. This ***** lives in cloud cuckoo land. Makes my skin crawl.

Budgets seem pretty tight - League 2 works out at just under 30k a week which doesn't seem much for a whole squad!

Most are running losses prior to the pandemic and they will fail because it is unsustainable. No one in their right mind will come to a club unless they are super rich fan to pay off huge debts and loans. Players need to be realistic as they are in other sports and see that for the time being they will experience wage deflation. Gordon Taylor is a moron. Always has been.

Mind you clubs like Woolwich are hardly any better. Looking to cut a lot of staff but happy to double the wages of a certain striker who has been complaining like a baby about who is not being signed etc, etc. And others like Ferric Torres claiming he would have stayed at Valencia if the club had doubled his wages and made him captain. Of course aged twenty the senior experienced professional that he is. Petulant little twunt. Players like Nehuen Perez may be captaincy material at a young age. He certainly is not.

The EFL could get their own house in order by having a fit and proper owners test they actually works and is worthwhile .
