I won £140 on Maori Venture winning the grand national at 28/1 a few years back.

It would have been eclipsed by the £5 I had on Watford to win the 84/85 cup at 33/1, which I was already spending.

What's been your biggest win. I bet the already rich ones have had no end of undeserved scratty winnings dropping in their laps.

Betting-wise, I reckon I’ve had £100-£200 a couple of times. I think my best was a £20 free bet which I put on Angella to score first v Muff in the game we went on to win 6-1. I think that got me £140 for zero risk.

Like everyone no doubt, I’ve got the £5 season-long mega acca worth £1500 that eluded me by virtue of Rangers winning the Scottish title rather than Celtic one year. Bastards.

I once won a crap-looking decanter in a church hall quiz raffle, it was cut-glass so I looked up the maker and sold it on eBay for £140.

Even better, I won a limited edition David Bowie LP (only 50 available) with a £5 online raffle ticket. Sold it on eBay for £2,500. Bargain!

My highest is £84 I think on the Lottery. I only have the odd small bet on the National, and have been on a few trips to the race course and dog track.

I saved up £15 to put on Snow Knight in the Derby when I was a young lad, I think 1973, as my dad had been given a tip by a stable lad in the west country somewhere. My mum and dad made my £15 up to £50 for a "win". My dad went to put the money on at the betting shop in Euston Road J/W Hagden Lane, West Watford, and I stayed off school to watch it. It was 100 to 1 in the early prices, and romped home at an eventual 50 to 1. I'm jumping up and down, and he is looking well p****d off with his head in his hands. I couldn't understand it as £2,500 was a fortune back in those days. He told me "I didn't really think it would win and I couldn't find a parking place outside the betting shop, so didn't put the money on. I thought I'd be the hero when I was able to produce our £50!"

Meanwhile, mum was already spending the winnings in her head as she celebrated the win around the radio at work.

To say the atmosphere in our house was grim for a few weeks, is an understatement.

I trade in the currency markets and do well. Some say that is "betting", but I dont agree.

I did about £120 when I was a skint student. £1 left in my account, while smashed I must have put a quid on a ridiculous accumulator on the Ecuadorian league or something before I went to bed. Woke up to the good news and thanked drunk me from the night before.

Spunked the lot on dinner, drinks and a blazing row with a very grumpy girlfriend the following day. Smashed my phone screen, didn’t have a penny to fix it. Good times.

$48,000 was my biggest one I think in (online poker tournament). Must have been over 10 years ago now in the original poker boom. Had quite a bit of success but stopped playing in about 2010 when all the young US maths grads started playing full time as there were no jobs post credit crisis and the games got way way harder. Also the 5am finishes weren't helping my real work.

I was quite good at those “Give Us A Break” trivia machines in the pub. Won the £10 prize several times.

    Quack quack oops.

Other side of £250 betting (tote) on the dogs at Newcastle. It was my first night out with the new research group (7 of us) and I was the only one who didn't lose. Used my wining formula of 'picking two dogs whose names I liked' by the third race I upped my ante to 40p per-unit and moved onto trifectas (two dogs and a blank)...

Won about £150 on a fruit machine in Vegas, spent most of it on a swanky dinner in the Paris casino and the rest on beer over the next couple of days

I won just under £200 on a horse about 10 years ago, as for the lottery I had my biggest win just before lockdown when I got £100 for 4 numbers on the Thunderball

I won an iPad air when they first come out, recently won an afternoon tea at a venue that I haven't been able to go to with the expiry running out rather quick.

I also won big on Maori Venture that year. Class horse, big price.

Biggest win was Nashwan in the Derby. I backed him before he won the Guineas and won about £250. I bought an electric guitar, set my sights on rock stardom and the rest is history.

July 1998, I got 5 + bonus ball on the lottery which came to a very tidy £76,537. It was a popular set of numbers as 12 tickets matched 6 & 31 had 5 + 1.
I was queueing for a takeaway Indian on Courtlands drive as the numbers were being drawn (live in those days), y face must have been a picture as the staff were asking if i was feeling ok.
    It made things very comfortable.

Ha, reminds me slightly of when my folks were very excited to have got 4 balls back in 1996 when that was typically worth a couple of hundred quid. Turned out a record amount of people had those numbers that week and they got something like £30.

I don’t really bet, but Mr HH likes to have a flutter on sport and has had a couple of five figure wins on accumulators - one football and the other a racing one.

Me and a mate went halves on a bet a few years ago, 6 fold acca. Pompey gloriously bagged a late winner against Tranmere to seal the deal and we won just shy of £600 each for a £2.50 stake.

Have always had a small fondness for Pompey since then.

  24. Regularly won £100+ in the Hogg Deeney season - used to bet on winning margins and goals scored and we gave quite a few clubs a shellacking. Since - bugger all.

The most I have won is about £200 on the final Lions match of the recent NZ tour. The night before the match I dreamt it would be a draw, so put about a tenner on it. I am now convinced I'm psychic.
