Little interview here with Troy about how he's coping. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/51965497 Apparently he can get fit again in about two weeks. Ahem.
Troy caused quite a stir today. Trending on Twitter. Even Liam Gallagher loves him now. https://twitter.com/liamgallagher/status/1261215216966254592
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ng-watford-begin-premier-league-preparations/ Totally understand Deeney's rationale here and I sympathise and empathise with him. In fact I totally agree with him. The unfortunate part is, football does not give a sh1t. It really doesn't. It just wants to get back to business. I hope all BAME players take Deeney's lead and refuse to play. Unfortunately, many players are sheep and will follow the heard. This will clearly not play out well for Watford. If we lose players like Deeney, no Geri of course and once one player makes an example, others are bound to follow. It will almost certainly relegate us, if we have to play without half our squad. Even losing just Deeney and Deulofeu will have a massive damaging affect.
Bet he will just be in the gym at home.. It doesn't sound like they can do much anyway yet. Like you say how many will follow - Deeney is very much his own man whilst others just do as told.
I tend to agree with this and think we would be pretty screwed. To be honest though right now I don’t massively care about our fate. There are more important things to worry about.
How long before we hear Welbeck is injured. Think I read Success had an operation during this break too! I know football is put into perspective at times like these but from the playing point of view we will miss Troy.. Tbh though reckon he spends most of the time in the gym anyway. Bet no- one else will take his stance. Gray is probably thinking - cheers Troy - don't turn up as I will get a game.
Understandable from Troy and I for one fully support his decision. Just hope the club back him all the way.
I tend to agree with Troy. The risk is obviously very small, but there is a risk nevertheless. I was half-hoping that he would use the opportunity to try and find some space (social distancing) on the pitch instead of hovering around the centre back, but, I do get his drift. Why should he lift a finger when he is getting his £50K + every week for sitting on his arse? Can we have a joint clap for Troy on Thursday?
Obviously Troy is concerned that BAME people appear more at risk, he is also concerned about taking the risk home where he has a five month old baby! One way of not taking the risk home, would be to stay in a hotel for a few weeks, attend training and fight for the cause that has put him where he is! This I think Troy should do, if its proved BAME footballers are at a higher risk and the virus is still prevalent in a few weeks time when/if matches start that is a different matter!
Good on him. Fully expect the usual weirdo suspects to appear to accuse him of being fat, lazy or a liar over the claims about his son. Despite the fact they haven't been out for 3 months and hover around 20 stone themselves. They might make up the odd story about themselves here and there to help them claim to be an expert on a subject. They'll also hate it when you criticise the owners. They should be easy to spot.
Good on Troy and fully expected considering his recent comments, I imagine a few others may follow in his footsteps across the PL if they don't get the reassurances they need. Hopefully the club respects his (and anyone else's) decision.
I'm sure there are huge numbers of players thinking exactly the same but, unlike Troy, don't want to put themselves in the spotlight. I've seen 3 funerals now for young, healthy victims of Covid19 so I am fully aware of the devastating impact on mine and my friend's lives. Going to work shouldn't be a health risk. Do a re-run of Euro 96 or something instead for a football fix. Now isn't the time, certainly not in this country.
We may not think that 2 months from now if we are relegated by 2 points without our captain and leader featuring, leaving Success to lead the line.
There is already .. Troy has said it's not about the money so any suggesting he doesn't mind not playing but still being paid is unfair. It's a personal decision to put his family before football.
Maybe you would if you had a talent for anything other than creating and starring in your own fairy tales.
Due to terrible recruitment Troy is unfortunately still the best of a bad bunch when it comes to our striker options. If we have to play much of the rest of the season without him then we'll probably be relegated (especially with Deulofeu still out for most of it as well).
Downing tools when we might by fighting for survival is a massive step for our Captain to take. I am amazed at the support he is getting on here. If he was so worried about his family, he should be living separately from them for a few weeks. Watford pay him a ****ing fortune, and have paid him something like £400k for sitting on his backside for the past 8 weeks. I am hoping that this is all part of a "cunning plan" to further WFC's unwillingness to complete the season, so we don't go down.
Absolutely right. How dare he look after his family and go and play football instead. What a dreadful attitude to take
He can play football and look after his family. Don't be daft. Families get temporarily split up all the time due to , it work. But it is a free country, he can do what he likes.
Families do indeed get split up, usually out of necessity and I'm sure most would not do it if they didn't have too and certainly wouldn't half way through a pandemic.
Exactly and that freedom is why he will have my full support. The risk to the players and their families is extremely low and can be mitigated further by the players isolating completely from their families. If a player still does not feel comfortable playing/training then they should get our and the club's full support imho. What they do or don't get paid is, quite frankly, none of our business. That is a contractual matter between the player and club.
Why on earth should any player get my support? I do not agree with him. He can do what he wants, and I can support who I want. As for his pay, the I'm allowed to have an opinion on that too. Thanks.
