I know 'favourite' doesn't always equal 'best' so interpret this question either way, or provide an answer for favourite and one for best if you prefer.

I listen to quite a lot of Spotify at work and today I've decided to begin going through Rolling Stone magazine's top 100 albums (starting at 100 and working my way down).

    What is your favourite album?

To me, Rubber Soul by The Beatles is the best album I've ever heard. In recent years, my favourite is probably Norman F****** Rockwell by Lana Del Rey.

If I were pushed, I wouldn't be able to choose from:

    The Jam: Sound Affects
    Dire Straits: Making Movies
    Bon Jovi: These Days
    Chicago: 17
    Boston: Third Stage

  4. Harvest.
    Or Peter Gabriel 1 (Car).
    Or This Year's Model.

I have just this minute finished listening to that album as it is number 98 on the list.

I might give it another listen tomorrow as I was doing a bit more work than when I listened to albums 100 & 99 on the list so maybe didn't get to appreciate it fully. Definitely preferred the other two, There's a Riot Goin' On & Odessey and Oracle.

On second listen (and whilst paying a bit more attention) This Year's Model was much better than I originally thought.

I've upgraded my own score for it to 80/100 so it beats There's A Riot Goin' On.

Blimey, I've never heard anyone mention the Motels before. Got a few of their tracks on my phone and bought "Whose problem?" as a single when it came out. They bombed in the UK but were reasonably big in the states. Great songs."Suddenly last summer" was the big US hit I think.

I remember Ian Andedson explaining at a gig. He got labelled prog rock after Aqualung and was annoyed that they called it a 'concept album,' so he decided to show the critics what a real concept album was, with Thick as a Brick.

I mentioned it on here a few years back, I had a little fling with Martha Davis when I was working in San Francisco in 78. They were trying to break through and get a record deal and I met her when they were performing at Berkeley University. Then they went back to Los Angeles where they were based. Great times, and great music, but it probably wouldn't have been one of my favourite albums if it wasn't for my connection and the memory, tbh.

Yeah I had a thing with her in 77.
It it true that she wrote "whose problem" and "suddenly last summer" about you ?

I hate this question like when people ask what your favourite film is, because I love music and listen to it constantly but weirdly would struggle to pick a favourite. So this is based on how much I’ve actually listened to these albums, I think when Spotify did that end of year stat thing these were still all at the top of my listening stats:

The Stone Roses The Stone Roses
    Tame Impala Currents
AM Suck it and See (could he replaced by Humbug)
Foals Total Life Forever (this could easily be replaced be replaced by holy fire or what went down though)
TLSP everything you’ve come to expect

As I say, not necessarily my favourite
Or even the best by that artist, but I’ve listened to all these albums a lot and still have in the last year so they clearly all give/gave me a lot of enjoyment

Haha. It was barely a fling really, and she wasn't at all famous at that time.

How did you get into them, then. As nobody I know as even heard of them?

Depending on the day I would have Queen of Denmark by John Grant, Smother by Wild Beasts or In Rainbows by Radiohead as favourite.

I could do those three on rotation for all of time.

Well I would have been only 14 in 1977 so my fling with her would have been barely a fling too !
I just heard "Whose problem" on the radio and liked it and bought it. Then heard and liked "Only the lonely" so bought the album. I have about 5 of their tracks on my phone now. A bit too safe "American pop-rock" for me really given my favourite stuff was by the Cure/Stranglers/Costello/Clash but they turned out some really good tunes/music (esp "Suddenly last summer") and great vocals. Martha is still performing it seems at the age of 69. Like you I've never heard anyone else ever mention them.

I always find the albums that I love dont always strike home on the first listen so listening to a line of albums would cause me to slip over some that I might really grow to love
At the moment my favourites would be
    Tom Waits small change
Tom Waits the heart of Saturday night
And Springsteen's latest offering western stars live with the orchestra backing them is a really nice album
