Give it up. There's no way the season will restart.

Won't happen but the first really.

    Money talks though.

What will happen, I think, is that Liverpool will be awarded the title and everything else will be voided because too many players resist returning and/or more test positive and there are too many objections to mathematical formulae. It’s illogical but I think likely.

I think, if the season is voided, the fairest thing would be no relegation but Liverpool still awarded the title since they were so far ahead.

I don't think that anyone would object to Liverpool from being given the title if it doesn't restart, I'm sure they'd happily accept it but unless they win it again soon then this win will feel a little empty for them in years to come I reckon.

Maybe that is why they are so keen to get the season finished.

Just so the title is won "normally"

i think all eyes will be on the Germans. If they can complete the season with no major issues, then I think there is half a chance the PL could be restarted. Personally I think if it is voided there should be no relegation or promotion, which is harsh on Liverpool, but I don’t think you can decide leagues with a quarter of the season still to play.

League 2 clubs beg to differ - they voted unanimously to end the season via a "framework" that included tables being decided on points per game and the play-offs remaining as planned. And even though Stevenage stayed bottom after that, they voted for no relegation.

A lot less at stake at that level. The non league clubs got no such say and their leagues were just voided. Every league is going to end up settled differently, with the money at stake having a bigger influence on what actually happens.

Well it seems they voted for weighted PPG but the football league have told them just to use normal PPG..

Stevenage will probably be saved (by the way they seem to be very unpopular within League Two fans!) with Macclesfield going bust.

Don’t disagree that if the season doesn’t restart then it is likely to be decided on a points per game, but I think it should be voided with no promotion/ relegation. I still think there is a good chance that it will restart as the only clubs against it are the 3 clubs above the relegation places, and players concerns around safety can be allayed, once full details around testing are communicated.

Void it. I'm sick of hearing about "maybe this" or "perhaps that...". Most managers seem to be committed to only getting back to football
when it is safe to do so. Even playing games behind closed doors will pose risks to players and staff. Even with no fans, it's still a risk.

Sort out a deal with TV Companies over the coming seasons, perhaps televise more games or continue Amazon's PL service they were
doing. Of course, voiding the PL would also mean voiding the four leagues below - which would bring it's own problems. Squeezing nine games
in just because of not tarnishing the brand is silly. Nobody saw this coming - it's totally unexpected, and nobody was prepared for it. Screw the money
big wigs and think about health first. Yes, lockdown has been slightly eased, but keep it slow and try to keep ahead of updates - we will know as a nation
when it's OK to start sports again, and that's not when the FA say so.

By the same token, maybe they should have finished out cup SF against Wolves with 15 mins to go? I mean it was probable they’d win...

I’m not saying Liverpool would have been caught. But while it’s inconceivable they would have been, it’s not impossible. There’s a lot being talked about in terms of setting ‘precedents’ - well awarding someone something they haven’t won is very near the top of that list.

League 2 clubs voted that way because it was not financially viable for them to carry on with the season whilst complying with the guidelines the EFL are laying out as mandatory. There was no option to simply void the season put to them.

It’s more than 6 clubs as had been widely reported, In many reports it’s 10 or more clubs that have an issue restarting with neutral grounds.
As for taking relegation off the table, the PL have confirmed that no club has asked for this.

Absolutely. As I’ve said before, how far ahead does a team have to be before you award them a title or promotion or how far behind before you relate them? 20 points? 15? 10? None of this would have been considered if the season was only a quarter over when it stopped.

What happens if it starts and has to be stopped again?

Teams are going to be even annoyed if the table is decided then.

I see the Bournemouth fans are getting a bit twitchy now they have realised the league might go to PPG.

Complaining that the Premier league will send them down deliberately.

    The conspiracy theorists are multiplying!

That said it’s a good point that I’m yet to see an answer to - in my opinion, IF the league restarts, it should do so with the agreement of all clubs that any further curtailment means the season is ended there and then. Anything that has been confirmed by that point (Liverpool winning the league, Norwich relegated etc) is allowed to stand. Everything else voided.

That puts pressure on teams to get good results in the first few games. That will make them interesting.

The "money big wigs" are the players. In the vast majority of clubs, they're the only ones making a profit.

If the players are willing to give up the money, then we can stop play for the duration. If the players want their pay, they will have to play.

Completely false I’m afraid. Player contracts have no force majeure clause written into them as confirmed by Richard Masters from the PL and various EFL club chairmen this week. The players will be paid either by their clubs or the Govts furlough scheme regardless of whether they play or not.

Now if they refuse, clubs could fine them I guess. But I’ve not heard anyone say they would do that yet and every club that I’ve heard debate the topic around players has said it’s up to the individual player.

If the players want their basic wage, they don’t have to play. If they want their bonuses they do....

Don’t see why it can’t be safe. If players are quarantined for 6 week’s or so. If they have to go home for family reasons then fine, but they will need to be re-tested. There are hotels all over the country that can be used as bases. Players are paid enough to make the sacrifice of being away from their families

But why should they have to?

My job pays me well. But if they told me I have to go and stay in a hotel for 6 weeks away from my young family during a pandemic then they’d be told politely to sod off. And that’s without going into the nuances of my particular family situation that makes it and even bigger ask. I’m sure many players will have similar circumstances - money doesn’t take those away.

‘Because your paid enough’ isn't a good enough reason to do it.

Did anyone watch any of the Bundesliga today?

Surely that made you lose any appetite to continue this season in the manner being asked? Was beyond awful and no spectacle at all. And the suggestions are that we have an even more watered-down version here!

The seasons gone. For my part, there will be zero enjoyment in any restart.

Watched it for 10 minutes. A ridiculous farce, subs sat 2m apart with masks on. Less entertaining than watching paint dry.
All for the sake of tv money, it would be funny if it wasn’t so disgusting and I would go as far to say utterly immoral
