Well there is no live football but you can enjoy us winning the London 5 side tournament back in the early 90s..

Seeing Gary Porter in that Vid almost brought a tear to my eye. More loyalty in his left toe than some of the absolute scoundrels & mercenaries we have here nowadays.

Would you change it back to those days though. Has it's pro's & con's I guess?

Met him and his partner a couple of times as a teenager. Lovely person. A Watford great without question.

I got my mum to tape it off of ITV I think. Watched it over and over again. Happy days. Gary Porter hat trick against Bolton 3-0 down to win 4-3 was my favourite Porter moment.

I always felt slightly sorry for him over his timing as a ‘Watford great’. Although he did play in GT’s first spell he was too young to play a big part and then he was just finishing at the club at the ‘second coming’ so missed that too.
I also once met someone who went to school with him in the northeast. They said he was a phenomenal footballer then and everyone was certain he would make it as a professional.

Yes I listened to that interview and was stunned he made so many performances. I remember the Bolton game of course but other than that can barely picture him in the shirt. I remember I really rated him but can't bring any images to mind to remind me why.

“Hassanthaler” was one of my faves back then.

Rod Thomas one of my biggest let downs as a child, meant to be the next best thing but didn’t happen.

Which of those clubs were top flight?

The usuals plus Wimbledon and maybe Palace/West Ham.

Bet they hated two unglamorous teams getting to the final.

Read it was scrapped 3 years later.

Directed by Asif Kapadia a fascinating insight into the life and mind of the greatest player ever to set foot on the pitch IMO. A god on the pitch and a villain off it. Tonight at 2100 on Channel 4.

Sure you will have seen it before but Hero: The Story of the 1986 World Cup is free on Amazon Prime, as indeed are all the FIFA World Cup official films.

82 and 90 are really good too but Hero is incredible - narrated by Michael Caine, 80s electro soundtrack by Rick Wakeman, loads of unusual camera angles and great shots of the crowd.

Yes indeed SLB. A great watch. As a small kid I was entranced by the evening and allowed to stay up late to watch the later kick offs as well. The two themes from ITV and BBC still bring up those memories.

Despite England getting to the semi-final, Italia ‘90 was a terrible World Cup.

Possibly, don’t remember the whole tournament to be honest, but I was 14 and football was life then, England’s run was huge and loved it. That music brings back all the feelings.

Did anyone watch Match of the Day last night? I imagined it was going to be the same old tired pundits chuntering on without any actual football so I gave it a miss. I’d much prefer reruns of old games like we saw earlier in the afternoon.

I too was 14, for me it was the first one I watched a lot of. Mexico 86 matches were all late because of the time difference, though I watched most of the England games. Spain 82 I was too young to remember.

USA 94 was during my A-levels so it was just as well England weren't in it as I had more important things to concentrate on.

I remember watching 86 , first tournament I remember that well. Beardsley / lineker ripping it up in the group game we had to win and the next round. Obviously the Argentina game sticks out there, old Maradona the little scamp, plus Barnes coming on late and nearly saving the day.
