So with all this work from home time, what games are you playing and what games do you recommend?

Think I'll start with FF XV.

Started Far Cry 5 last night after working from home so going to give it a go.

Haven't bought a Football Manager game in years as I've never had the time to commit to it... annoyingly I do have the time now but nothing to play it on! My personal laptop is too old (barely use it) and don't fancy downloading it on to the work laptop.

I got given Sims 4 free to download with my PS plus subscription. Not something that would usually tickle my fancy but unfortunately she saw it and now I have to ask for my PlayStation back. Absolute piss take. I’m going to treat myself to a new laptop, not for working from home but to get reacquainted with FM. It’s the only game for a time like this.

Never finished the last Red Dead, I’ll probably go back and play the second half of that.

Yahtzee fever has taken over our evenings too for some old fashioned fun.

Any tips for buying a reconditioned laptop?

I’ll accept that ‘don’t, buy a new one instead’ is the obvious and sensible answer but I can’t go spending £600 just for playing FM.

Depends what you want to use it for and what your budget is. If it's just for FM then you can buy £100 laptop like this one.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/THOMSON-UK...07G5JJHRS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

But they're quite slow for web browsing due to the processor and FM will take up most of its memory, making it even slower. They're hit and miss at this level but less of a risk because of the price.

Hate to be a killjoy but shouldn’t you be working??!

Thanks, it would literally just be for FM. Apparently the desktop will just be for working from home, selfish cow.

I'm interested in playing the FFVII remake as I never played the first one (happily had an N64, but FFVII was one of the few games on other consoles I was a bit envious of). However, frustratingly its release date is still 3 weeks away.

I've tried a few games out lately, but the only one I really got in to was Detroit: Become Human.

I don't have a PS but I believe you can download the demo for free to try it out? I gather there are different combat mechanics rather than turn based so worth checking out before buying just in case.

Unless you have nowhere to put it, get a desktop instead.

FM is very processor heavy. You'll get much better performance on desktop than a laptop, pound for pound.

We’ve got one, upstairs in the spare bedroom so a laptop would have been a concession to being at least a little sociable. You’re right though about the gameplay quality. Maybe I can Skype down to her in the living room.

Could always run the game on the desktop and use an el-cheapo laptop to remote into the desktop (RDP, Teamviewer, etc). All the socialness, all of the performance.

Not to up on video games, but I assume there is one where two people play against each other in a football match?

If there is we have any easy way to end the season, a bit like in times of old when the Kings Champions used to fight one on one to solve disputes rather than whole armies fighting each other.

    So here goes: -

Every football team selects a player to play each of their fixtures on the video game i.e. Watford v Leicester might be Deeney v Vardy, then whatever the scoreline on the game it stands as if the real match had been played, and the points and goals would be awarded accordingly.

    Simples!!! Problem solved

Warzone is just Fortnite without building...and I hate Fornite.

Preferred it when they had Shipment, Shoothouse and Rust on loop.

Tbf I can't actually play warzone without it crashing every 5 mins which isn't ideal

Logged plenty of hours on death stranding. For some reason playing as a courier venturing out into the apocalyptic world delivering packages for ungrateful people holed up in their bunkers seems quite apt at the moment.

Love this game. No idea why but it's beautiful and frustratingly brilliant. Up to about 60/70 hours. Girlfriend doesn't understand what the fun is in being an Amazon delivery driver and building roads.

She says this as she loads up Lego Harry Potter for a third play through since Christmas.

Resident Evil 3 remake out early April as well, always good fun!

To those who still play games on a PC, Epic Games are giving away The Stanley Parable and Watch Dogs free of charge til the 23rd.

Stanley Parable is quite short but has lots of replay value and you should get a whole load of hours out of Watch Dogs.

I can't remember a game that was as high on the scale as "game I was so hyped for" and "actual minutes of game played".

Everything looked so cool in all the trailers but it really really didn't click with me when I actually played it. Think I must've played it for <30 mins.

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Yeah it was a weird one. I was the same as you, didn't play it much when I first got it on release day. Got round to playing it about a year or two later, couldn't stop playing.

The sequel is far superior though.

Nvidia's calling on gaming PC owners to put their systems to work fighting COVID-19

    By Connor Sheridan

Folding@home has new projects for the study of coronavirus.

If you have a gaming PC, you can lend your graphical power to fighting the COVID-19 outbreak. That's not a thing I ever thought I'd write, but it turns out 2020 is occasionally weird in good ways too.

Nvidia is putting out a call to PC gamers everywhere to download the Folding@home application and start putting their spare clock cycles toward advancing humanity's scientific knowledge of coronavirus. The program links computers into an international network that uses distributed processing power to chew through massive computing tasks - something that gaming-grade GPUs are quite good at, as it turns out. You can still turn the application off and reclaim your GPU's full power for playing games whenever you want.

Folding@home has been around for years - it was also available on PS3 back in the day - with users lending their distributed power to all kinds of research. A new wave of projects "simulating potentially druggable protein targets from SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) and the related SARS-CoV virus (for which more structural data is available)" were made available on the service earlier this week.

These projects could help researchers better understand coronavirus, and eventually even develop effective therapies against it. If you've been grappling with feelings of helplessness in the face of the worldwide outbreak, this is a small but real way you can lend your aid to the world without any medical experience. It also doesn't hurt that you don't need to leave your house to do it, since we're supposed to avoid that as much as possible anyway.

Witcher 3 on sale in US-Steam today. If the same sales are on in the UK, that's weeks worth of entertainment at a cut rate for anyone who hasn't played it.
