    What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I can’t see them promoting, relegating , deciding European slots without finishing the leagues.

It would be hugely unfair to just call the season null and void.

My idea would be finish the season when it’s safe to do so - let’s say August and September. Clubs will have to extend contracts for a few months. Then have a 3 week break for transfers. Then start the next season but with reduced fixtures.

You could have everyone play each other once and then the top 10 split and play each other a second time to decide the league, European slots. Meanwhile the bottom 10 battle it out to avoid relegation. If this is the rule before the league starts it’s still fair.

No point. Deeney and Nige' will be the finalists.

Cancel the whole 2019/20 season and annul all the results. Start again as normal in August across all leagues.

    That or a tiddlywinks competition.

Still haven't seen a better solution than the "two year double season". It maintains sporting integrity and gives some flexibility.

OK, you have to deliver a 47 game PL season in 2020/21, but some tinkering with squad size rules and cup competition formats should ease the "pain".

They will want to try and just delay the season but read there won't be a peak in the virus till May or June so how long do they hold back till?

Whatever they do someone won't like it!

This is going to go for months. Prediction is this reaches a peak in 12 weeks. I would end the season now. Teams are relegated based on their current standings and average points per game. As Villa have played one game less, they would receive an extra point. This would still mean Villa are relegated along with Muff and Norwich.

Difficult to say until a date is set to start playing again is set.

We may not start again until next year, then the answer could be to just finish this season from where we are now.

End as is. The relegation promotion in all leagues is decided with a one off game so Leeds v Norwich. WBA v Villa Fulham v Muff. Drawn out a hat for home advantage. And the same down the leagues.

They will void the season and then next season we will go down with a record low points total.

It would quite literally be the most Watfordy thing of all time.

I'm hearing the authorities have unfortunately seen HB1's post that confirmed we were relegated the minute we lost at AV. Therefore, whatever the answer, we will start next season in the championship.

I honestly can't see this working. Clubs cannot enforce player contracts past expiration; as a result, a number of clubs will end up with players out of contract and might not be able to replace them. That will result in an enforced shift in squad strengths at a deferred end-of-season crunch time.

For example, Foster is out of contract in June. What if he refuses to extend his contract? We lose our first choice goalkeeper mid-season.

What about players whose clubs elect to not renew their contacts? Other clubs won't sign them if they can't play them, so either you end up with a bunch of unemployed players until the season is concluded, or a bunch of clubs are able to bring them in for the last 10 games. Relegation threatened clubs will then throw stupid money at out of contact players to try and stay up.

There is no fair way to deal with things if the season can't complete in a timely fashion. It's a simply a matter of what causes the least logistical issues.

Christ, could you imagine that farce?

"The season resumes in July with relegation-threatened Watford having no manager and no first choice goalkeeper." Sheer brilliance.

It would be an absolute farce to void the season and will result in lots of legal lawsuits and massive loses for the Premier League. Why get excited about next season as the virus will still be around, next season could get suspended at any moment?

Who is to say if we void the season that football will resume at any point this year? The authorities may as well void next season too if football is not allowed to be started at the right time. To solve this the rest of the seasons football should be played behind closed doors if possible for the rest of the season even if they have to play the football during next season and just void the following season instead.

Might such contracts not be reinterpreted in the context of some force majeure principle?

NOTE: I was **** at contract law.

I’d imagine if players can’t play for another side until the new season and they can continue to get paid until then with their current club, plus the moral side and not wanting to let their team mates down, this wouldn’t be a major stumbling point.

I’d imagine an extension of the season is one of the main options on the table at the moment.

It's just a question of how long will this go on for. If we get to May without any games being played, then I think it will be very tough to continue the season, but I think that's the last resort.

I fully expect the Euros to be postponed, which will give clubs time to complete their domestic seasons, but 9 games to fit in if we get to May would be too much. You're talking about mid-June even if they play 2 games per week. I don't think anyone would want that.

Personally I think we'll start playing again in 4 weeks or so...…...but if we don't and the season does not restart again, I don't see a way around it. There are too many games to play to dish out promotions and relegations. Season 19-20 will become the season that never was.

Like a game of Football Manager. We just restore and start again in August.

Unfortunately the virus is projected to be around for some time yet possibly a year. There is no reason its going to magically disappear by August and football resumes as normal. Ending this season makes a mockery of next season as it could also end prematurely.

If the season is delayed too far into summer they will have to cancel it.

With the euros likely to be moved to next summer the start of next season can’t be delayed.

The issue with completing is not so much the crowds, it's more the availability of players with players testing positive and whole squads in isolation.

This season will be declared void. No promotions or relegations.

They'll cry about being hard done by, by the Tory government, for the rest of living memory.

I might actually have an ounce of sympathy for the poor long suffering souls, as it won't be all their own fault this time.

‘Clubs will have to extend contracts by a few months...’ - you realise they don’t have the power to unilaterally do that right? And if players don’t agree, what then?

It seems to me that those thinking we can simply shift the season on a few months don’t quite realise the in’s and out’s of how you would attempt to do that. It wouldn’t be easy at all. And in my eyes, it would be undertaken purely just to avoid a few clubs feeling aggrieved. But those clubs should first and foremost realise the gravity of the situation and realise that their own fans will likely have people they know die.

It’s irrelevant. Finish the season if it can be done in a timely manner with little more upheaval. If it gets any more stressful that how it is now - cancel it and don’t look back. Certain clubs can inwardly feel very upset about it but their power to act upon that feeling should be zero. And I would say exactly the same of it were us in their shoes.

I’m a bit confused by your posts on this. You seem to be suggesting games just continue behind closed doors? Even after what’s happened in the last 24-48hrs?
If that’s not what your proposing, I’m confused as to what you are? Don’t void this season because you may have to void the next? So what? If the virus takes hold to that extent, it’s irrelevant how many seasons get voided. You’d theoretically do it as it comes. Once this season becomes untenable, void it and go from there.

As for lawsuits...maybe, but from who? I imagine all the contracts will have a ‘force majuere’ included within them as even the most basic ones do, let alone contracts worth multi-millions that are based on future events. EFL clubs won’t have a leg to stand on if denied promotion from a voided season - they require to be invited to become a member of the PL in the event of promotion. If they aren’t invited, that’s the PL’s right to do so. It would be controversial. But highly unlikely they would be found guilty of anything in the circumstances.

Create a super season. To finish January 2021. To do this everybody keeps points gained already this season. Each club then has to complete 9/10 fixtures they were scheduled. Plus, each club then has a further 18 games one each against the rest of the teams in the division. It is drawn from the hat to decide if you play the club home or away. But all teams would have 9 home and 9 away games. After this period League champions, European place relegation and promotion can be awarded. January 2021 to May2021 to be cup time. The FA and league cup competitions. Plus, the various plates and trophies that the lower league teams compete in played. The premier league money from the normal 2nd half of the season split between the competitions. Thus, allowing lower teams to gain money to survival. Teams that are get knocked out of the cups can arrange friendly’s or promotional trips as they please. England can also call up players for a longer international period before the rearranged Euro 2021s.
