Terrible. But has there been a campaign yet to let us know what race the abusers are? I believe this is generally what is done when depraved individuals group together. It’s apparently important to draw inferences about their religion.
The grimly ironic part is there was serious opposition to allowing gay BSA leaders for years because they might predate on the boys. Apparently, not allowing paedos might have been a better approach. Sad thing is a number of the abused boys have probably died of old age by now, and never got to see any form of justice done (not to mention that a lot of the fiddlers will be dead too, and got away with it).
I was a scout in Watford, and I am aware of at least two of my scout leaders were put inside for sexual abuse.
I have mostly good memories and nothing untoward, but as you can imagine, the young me soon tired with being part of a quasi military organisation swearing allegiance to God and the Queen. More importantly, I also didn’t like the trousers. So I left around 12 (age, not midnight).
No issues as far as I can remember in my cub pack. Two things I didn't like about cubs: Having to wear shorts, even in winter Having a kid 5 days older moved to my six when I was a seconder which meant I never made it to the rank of sixer. I'm still bitter to this day, it's the main reason I quit and never progressed to the scouts.
My Mum put me on the list for the brownies when I was five. I'm still waiting. I think I may have missed out but having read the above it is probably for the best.
