Not really, because you can say something like that & you will always be right eventually.

It's the players fault anyway, you can't just say a decent sub or two would have solved it. When the confidence goes in this team, the heads drop & it's easy to see it just becomes a matter of time before the opponent scores. It can't be coached out of them, the club have done everything in that respect to try & solve it.

Also Del's cons might be starting to outweigh his pro's, tired of his sulking, nonchalance & more often than not miskicks time after time.

Pussetto is far stronger than Delofeu and in his short stint made two excellent defensive pinches and certainly has the guile and pace if he ever gets the ball. Welbeck on the other hand looked far off it. When Alzate wandered in for free down the right instead of covering his run dear Danny was motioning others to cover him. The extra bonus he gets this week will be well earned. Again we have nothing really to come on upfront that makes other teams sit back and err on the side of caution. Gray pfft. Welbeck not at the races and he like Nacho has hardly had any real time to get up to speed. Pedro still incredibly raw and Sarr still out.

I understand what you’re saying but games are also managed by what you have on show that can scare the opposition.

Sarr’s pace and constant willingness to show for the ball allows the whole team to push up, it allows Deulofeu space and vice versa to Sarr when we’re focusing attacks down Del Boy’s side.

The more threat we pose, the less the defence has to do.

Right now, Delboys blowing by 50, Deeney can only really bring one side of our attack into play and Doucoure is our main threat in behind.

We kept out Tottenham and Bournemouth with Sarr in the side. Not a coincidence. How many clean sheets have we kept since he’s been injured?

Okay superficially this was 2 points dropped due to an awful own goal from Marriapa who should do better in that situation considering his experience.

However, our tactics prior to the goal were poor. Brighton did not have too many chances but we kept thumping the ball away with no attacking intent or control of the midfield after half time. We were set up to win 1-0 which we are not really great at achieving. Look at what happened at Southampton away. Our recent wins against Aston Villa, Man Utd and Wolves were secured on the back of going at least two goals ahead. Why was Chalaboh not brought on to regain control of the midfield? Its as if Pearson had learnt lessons on his substitutes from the previous two games by not trying to do anything to upset the teams balance which he had been at fault with the previous two games. I am afraid that the last few games show that his in game management and decision making with substitutions are not great based on how we have let results slip recently towards the end of matches.

Even worse was when it went to 1-1 in an absolute must win game our players ( probably under instructions) try and wind the clock down and play for a draw as if we were terrified that going for the win would result in another late loss. Its only a point gained in my opinion if we get an unlikely point at Old Trafford as Liverpool are too good for us.

We have just played 3 massive and winnable games in Aston Villa, Everton and Brighton. All three games we have taken the lead and looked for large parts of the match the superior team. All three games the opposition ( particularly Everton and Brighton) have been poor. All three games we have made stupid defensive errors and dropped points with late goals.

Totally agree, as soon as we scored, I said on the shoutbox we mustn't sit back. It happens too often.

And Deeney is the antithesis of an in "intelligent footballer".

Why a troll? Just because I think we will stay up unlike the rest of this forum. So what.

We should have smashed Brighton today, just like Villa. Both teams are worse than us. So I predict results based on who we have. If our players bothered to turn up and give it their all, we would have won,

It’s a mental block with our players, not ability. Just need to unlock that blockage over the next 2 weeks and we will be fine.

Either way, we have a good run of games still to come, 5 wins needed and I fancy our chances.

This result is a massive massive blow.

The last 3 games, before every single one of them I've said the same thing to my Dad. I hope this is the game we show that when the pressure is on we can turn up and get a result, and for the third time, my theory of us not being able to put in a performance when it really does count has been proven right.

How Mapps is starting out of position when it is our fifth year in the Prem is utterly ridiculous and that own goal completely encapsulates the neglect shown by the board towards the defence.

Pearson is starting to show some of his faults. His in game management is really really bad. Much more reactive than proactive. The subs were needed on the hour, came way to late.

I think things will look much more bleak once we're on the other side of the United & Liverpool games. While survival is still not out of the realms of possibility, winnable games seem to be running out and this side has shown me nothing to suggest that it has the guts and belief to dig us out of it. Hoping Sarr can be the difference maker and drag us to survival but my belief is waning game by game.

We were rubbish total and utter rubbish, and yet Brighton couldn't beat us, and scraped a point with a brain fart from Marriappa. We will improve. We have to improve, the players we have to come back will make us better. I'm not sure that Brighton have anything other than what they showed tonight, I'm hopeful they will be down come the end of the season. In all my years supporting this wonderful football club I have never seen a team so capable of self harm and to be in with any shout of stopping up is some kind of miracle, somehow I still think we will.

We had a little purple patch, mainly because of Sarr, but that's now long since dead and buried, our defence is laughable, confidence is gone, and we barely threaten without Sarr on the pitch.

I don't see us beating the pure incompetence and negligence of the transfer window by staying up.

All media outlets have stated: Mariappa, under no pressure at all, lashes the ball into the net.
Good guy, good with the football in the community projects and tries hard.
Adrian, you are no Premier league player, League One at best. You have had enough chances and you just don't have the skills and awareness.
Time for you to leave our club.

I don't agree. Brighton manager changed personnel as the game was getting away from them. Watford Manager changed nothing when the game was getting away from them. Put the right fresh legs on at the right moments to solve the problem of inviting pressure all half and having some of your own against the opposition.

I would rather be blindly optimistic and believe my team can achieve the impossible, as opposed to, just throw the towel in and believe it’s over, when in fact it isn’t.

Brighton are poor, Villa are atrocious, we have the far superior players, so my predictions were wrong, who cares. Still think if our players didn’t have this mental block, results would be different. On paper, ability wise, we shouldn’t be near the bottom. We are, so now we have to coach them out of it.

Smashing Liverpool was a joke. However, United are not the United of old, and they are beatable. They will be missing Rashford which is huge. Burnley just beat them, so no reason we can’t.

Pearson’s game management is poor at the moment. That may be lack of options, but it was clear after 10 minutes of the second half we needed to do something different and we didn’t.

    WTF was Mariappa thinking!!!

There was no pressure on him whatsoever, and there was nobody within 5 Metres of him, and yet he blasted the ball into the roof of our net as if he was at the other end attacking an open Brighton goal.

    I really do despair :(

There’s no problem with being optimistic but don’t you experience even a slither of self-doubt that your optimism may be misplaced when the reality ends up differing so much from your puppyish pre-match enthusiasm? And certainly others will be less inclined to pay attention to your predictions when you’ve been so wrong in the past.

It's even more depressing if you look where we would be now in the table if these results had played out:

    W 1 S 0 (Deeney scores penalty)
    AV 0 W1
    W 2 EV 0
    B 0 W 1

I know this is purely a guess and cannot be true to view, but the fact is we would be sat nicely in Mid table right now. Since Sarr's injury we have totally collapsed as a side mentally.

You can say something like that and it will become true eventually - yep. So true. But generally after a pretty substantial period of time. We are talking weeks in this case... Not saying you, but since being in the PL we have too many fans who are so fast to rush and judge the more downbeat fans when things are going well - but they reject all notion of them being incorrect when it turns on them and the initial judgments show some truth. I’ve been guilty of it over Gracia.

However, I see yet again (not from you) that we are back to blaming players and absolving the manager of blame. It’s crazy and not how football works. Don’t like how the players are performing? Pick the others. But no. Once again, inadequate players are picked week in, week out. If the others aren’t good enough, blame the owner and the recruiters... but some don’t want to do that either.

For me it’s simple. We have an average owner. One who was once too good for the level we were at - but is no longer good enough for where we are. Can he change and adapt? Yes. With better and different people around him.

I gave credit to Deeney when he was playing well, but still questioned whether he could keep it up. It doesn't appear that he can.

He was good for about 6 PL games, at the same time as the rest of the team was also playing well. 2 brief purple patches surrounded by being mostly a passenger across about three seasons now is nothing to write home about.

Don't know why you're raising that point in response to my scepticism of putting all our problems down to a lack of Sarr either.

Poor performance, looked nervous and not wanting to lose.

Thought we could of pushed on when Doucoure scored, however wasn’t to be. Kept our shape first half but Brighton never really tried much the odd long ball was easy defended. 2nd half Maupay and proper made the difference for them. And we just got opened up either losing the 2nd ball with no fight or just aimlessly booting it forward from defence giving it straight back. Our back line was all over the place last 15 and Mariappa’s howler summed it up. Brighton deserved the point and if it had gone on longer would of had all 3.

Hopefully playing the next 2 with little to fear as expected to get nothing will relax them and allow them to play. Been a tough few games and the way we’ve dropped points from winning positions was vital we came away with that point.

Looks ever more likely we are relying on 3 teams being worse let’s hope wet spam get a hiding tomorrow to further dent their confidence and goal difference.

And this break has come at a good time as I think us supporters need it just as much as the team

I don't think it was Deeney's fault we lost today. With only playing 1 striker, its imperative that at least 2 of the 'front 3' play well in order to stand a chance of a positive result. And today Delefeo was poor and Pereyra anonymous.

You know what you are getting from Deeney every week. He's not my kind of player as I like goal poachers as strikers, but as shown from previous results, when he isn't on the pitch the results have been worse.
