We are just so dreadful from set plays. I can’t remember since we last scored from a corner or free kick. It’s been years. It won Everton the game today. We are missing out on so many cheap goals and it’s a huge handicap.
I’m not worried. Result today sucks but it’s not season defining. Beat Brighton and we are out of the relegation zone. The season defining games are the run of fixtures, Norwich (H), Newcastle (H) and West Ham (A). That really should be 3 wins in a row.
We are a different team with Sarr. He changes the dynamic of most games. We just need one really good central defender, that would raise the level of the whole defence. I dont understand why we didn't buy 1 in the window. Is Foster about to get his 4th relegation from the Prem? We are not doing ourselves any favours but we would have killed to be in this position when Pearson took over and we are not far from safety. Stay strong people.
When will you get worried? We lost to Villa after you said we’d batter them so not sure I have much faith in your confidence of these cowards swatting aside Brighton, Newcastle and West Ham!
Never. It’s football. It has its up and down. If we go down, so what. We’ve been in much worse positions than this as a club, thankfully our club still exists. So getting relegated from the Prem doesn’t have me worried. I don’t want us to get relegated, but I’m not going to lose my mind if we do.
The question is, will 37 points be enough? I can’t see us getting anymore than that even if we get every good result we’re capable of getting.
Good job their predictions and I don’t bet. Imagine how much I would be down. Frightening. Thankfully I can carry on making hopeless predictions on this forum for the world to see.
I think we will finish on 40 points personally speaking. We just need to do what we need to do. If we don’t and we go down, we can have no complaints.
I'll disappear for a bit if it's still a bit raw, but probably goes without saying that I'm ecstatic with that result. Last time out against Newcastle we utterly dominated and conceded two in injury to throw away two points. This time out we were abysmal in that first half, found ourselves two down after 45 mins and still managed to get in at half time level. Very, very fortunate. Second half I thought was much more of a contest. I thought Pearson made a mistake in bringing Welbeck on for Chalobah - the extra man you had in midfield before that change was the one thing which was causing us problems. Then we had Delph sent off and I assumed we'd crumble. Still don't see you going down, if you're still worried about that. Could easily have gone another way today.
No need to vanish, always good to hear the other side's view. I thought your lot deserved it today. We were abysmal second half, and the last five minutes of the first half summed up our season. We cannot defend simple balls into the box - and that has been our downfall for so long now. We looked in control but our old habits never will die. It's not hopeless for us, but we have Brighton next week who could easily beat us on current confidence form... then we play Ole's under achievers and LiVARpool at home. It's desperate. Fair play to your fans, never gave up singing.
Fair enough. I am not worried about relegation yet. When it comes to us having to beat Man City at home and arsenal away in order to stay up, then I will worry about relegation. Until those two games, there are plenty of points to play for.
In all fairness you did well to make the change to take an attacker off and bring Keane on in defence to nullify you had 10 men. And the winner was a good counter attack but really our defence should have stopped Richarlison. I don't think we would score from a set play if we had 100 each game !
Gutting. There’s still 13 games to go, but a real body blow to come out of that with nothing. Still 39 points to play for, it can be done.
Agreed-He didn't have a save to make in the first half either-we only had 2 shots on target the whole game-good conversion rate but not if you need to score 4 to win the game I thought we also looked like complete strangers once NP made the two subs when they went down to 10 Still at least we have another home game to come in 4 weeks to make up for today's poor game management- i hope its not Liverpool but will need to check my calendar to make sure
I thought bringing on Success was strange. He just offers nothing, but maybe Pearson was being sporting and making it 10 v 10?
Feel like someone dig my dead dog up and shot it again after that. I’m worried dropping points from winning positions in that manner is extremely hard to take. Can’t afford to drop points like that at home. Ffs 2 up is a dangerous position to be in, deny deflect defend stay focused until half time. The 2nd half was terrible Welbeck was brought on to soon he was out of sorts and all our subs failed to have any impact. Brighton is a must win can’t go into the winter break not getting anything out of that or it will look very bleak Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Normal service resumed on this bi-polar forum I see. "We're useless, we're ****. We deserve to be relegated, players x, y & z shouldn't darken the doors of this club again" etc, etc. Nath at his masochistic worst. Perspective required. Norwich are probably down, then it's two from five of us (hopefully Palace can be dragged into it as well). Only three points separate us from 15th and all of us are having ups and downs with plenty to go before the end of the season. Keep the faith. COYH!
I’m disappointed the ‘pozzos out’ thread hasn’t been revived yet , seeeing as we have had a couple of bad results
As disappointing as today was last week felt far worse as it was a late equaliser followed by a last minute choker against a relegation rival who we could have put some daylight between. Actually thought we played well for much of the first half, we pressed well and scored two great goals. Calamatous defending from the corners changed the game, we didn't start 2nd half well at all,we grew a bit into the half but ironically thought sending off hindered rather than helped Return of Welbeck a plus but our survival for me hinges of how soon we can get sarr back on the pitch. He is key for us getting things going on the break, he makes things happen and scares the pants off defenders.
I’d welcome new owners and a fresh approach. And it’s not due to two results. It’s due to incompetence and stale approach over about 30 months. Just my view of course.
Gino, Scott - that’s what you get for being arrogant, complacent ****’s in the transfer window. We’re not good enough right now to fight against these teams. your handling of this great club is this season is an absolute disgrace, and I hope you’re happy.
Absolutely dreadful, and no one to blame but ourselves. Championship-level defenders and yet the club doesn't strengthen. Multiple players out of position for the past few months and yet the club doesn't strengthen. A consistent injury problem - across all positions - with minor knocks becoming months-long absences and yet the club doesn't strengthen. Players like Isaac Success coming on and perhaps making us even worse, even when a man up, and yet the club doesn't strengthen. Well done by our supposed 'brain trust'. The club's spin no longer works - Giraldi and co seem capable of moving secondary players to and from Udinese but don't actually know how to elevate the squad's quality. And what of Eric Roy, our supposed big hire as player liaison. Not a word since that announcement, and seemingly no impact. At various points, we've heard of disagreements and problems in the dressing room. The players got the manager they wanted, and then they do this. It's rotten to the core and we need a full re-start.
I thought we missed Dawson today. He is probably our best header of the ball at the back. Also, goes to underline how puzzling it is that with just about everyone saying we need a big, dominant CB, we still haven't got one. I notice that Holebas was our only defender on the bench today, which says it all doesn't it!
Don't know why either, but it infuriates me too. He's failed as his job. What I saw today was most of the players walking right by him. What on earth is he doing there? And has he always done this, and it's just gone unnoticed?
If we'd have won it would have been 4 on the trot at home in the top flight, something we've never done in our history If I'd known that I'd have bet the farm at 2 nil up
