https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/01/16/report-watford-want-to-re-sign-17m-star-as-west-ham-join-race/ I was wondering when we were going to be linked with him. Well, today's the day.
He has been having a pretty good season when called upon so far, so yeah he should probably be good until the end of next season. However, even though Young has showed no signs so far this season of losing his pace, Holebas was also still doing well for us this time last year and now look how far he's plummeted in such a brief amount of time. I suspect Young is probably looking for a slightly longer term deal than just a year/18 months, which could be too much of a risk.
Would be fairly happy tbf. Can cover multiple positions. As been said he's kept himself in excellent shape. Knows the club and the league.
I would not complain, however I expect he would want at least a 2 year deal which would be a bit of a gamble, but could still be worth it for the right money.
Sentiment should never come into a decision like this. He can pick up a good final contract in the Middle East, China, US etc., rather than trying to compete at a high level with us and being subjected to some harsh (but fair) criticism on this forum. I recall his time with us with fondness. It would be a shame to jeopardise his Watford legacy.
Wonder how people would react if he did come back, scored against United and chose not to celebrate...
I find criticism of him to be completely bizarre. He celebrated a goal, so what. So did Heiðar. For a Watford youth academy player to help get us promoted against all odds and go on to captain one of the biggest clubs in the world - then help England to a World Cup Semi Final - Ash should be applauded. That said, I think the chance to sign him came and went a few years ago. Killer cross, one of the best in the business, but it's a bit late now.
A large proportion of those fans voted to have a terrible cartoon wasp as our badge. I'd pay no attention.
Will definitely want a 2yr deal and on big money as well I would imagine. I’d like him for the set piece delivery - and there are examples of FB’s being decent well into their later years. But certainly not the he majority of them. I’d leave well alone and let someone else spunk the huge wages. Our scouting ‘network’ should be looming for younger quality defensive additions - signing Ashley Young would be just another stop gap signing because they can’t identify better targets - or just ignore them and let others get them.
You'd have to be a certifiable loon to criticise HH for celebrating. Full-bore enthusiasm is what made him such a brilliant player to have on your team. Expecting him not to celebrate scoring a goal would be to deny what made him such a special player. I still have fond memories of his "advertising board" celebration!

Do what Derby have done with Rooney. Bring him in as a coach / player. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
How much did we get when we flogged him to Villa? 9M. Pretty good for the time. What has surprised me the most about his career is how he transitioned from a skilful winger to a defender. Oh, and I agree with the FK scenario - please anyone but Holebas from now on.
Inter will reportedly paying him in excess of 200k a week for 2 years so thankfully I don't believe we were ever in the frame.
So farewell then Young Ashley Young. A Watford return was not quite done. You're off to Milan for the sun. And the enormous wedge of weekly cash. E J Thribb aged 17 & 3/4.
Begs for a hornet return on the club's podcast. The clearest of clear "come and get me" cries. Plaintive it is. He would walk from Milan to Watford to wear the failed security tag removal paint splat shirt. Could this in theory happen? Would it be ok from europe incoming?
Only way I think would be if his contract was terminated and we signed him as a free agent. Maybe has his eyes on a January move if he thinks Conte is likely to shift him. Would be a very good option at wing back for us if he is actually keen, although I suspect it is him just trying to make peace after his previous antics.
