Whatever bid Leeds made, it has been rejected according to The Athletic.

Yes, but that was for Birmingham when we beat them 5-2.

Why the f**k would we reject ANY bid from Leeds!?

I'm not being funny, but we could stick the kids in there like Dalby & Cassidy who would do a better job than Gray!

He's not a Premier League player whatsoever!

I can never get the hate given to some of our players, past or present. Gray didn't put an £18m price tag on his own head when we bought him. He's a trier and has always worked hard for us despite the inconsistent form and being in & out the team. He may not be our best forward but that doesn't justify the abuse he gets. If he is sold, I will wish him all the best (except if he ever plays against us that is, but I'd still applaud him when his name is read out when the teams are announced before kick-off).

That said, I'd rather have him around as back-up this season whilst Pedro gets match fit / fills out a bit and whilst/if Wellbeck ever gets match fit again. Gray scored some important goals last season and has the capability, on his day, to help us this season. He's better than Success and the u23s we have are not as good as him.

It's not hate. It's observation and opinion. What don't you understand about that?

It was very hot. No cover over the Brighton Beach end for us. Just lots of very red faces. The kick off was put back 15 mins l believe to let all the Watford fans in.

I would say @Maninblack is correct, it has turned into hate for hate's sake with a few.

Especially from @Relegation Certs who clearly likes (or needs) the attention of people he's never met before & simply uses this place as an outlet to express himself, his angry on line persona & rants by spouting vitriol & garbage the vast majority of the time. Even if you look at it as forum sarcasm, it's so boring now & not that funny after a while.

See the Udinese thread for latest completely pointless hate against the owners.

Can someone please explain this agenda against Gray?

Sure he’s not the greatest player - but his attitude is hardly one of someone who carries himself as if he is. He’s given no grief to fans and hasn’t made a fuss about not playing. His teammates seem to like him as well.

Not a PL footballer in ANY WAY? He has scored some key goals for us. He has made some vital assists. Claiming two youth team players who have done ZERO in adult football at anywhere near PL level would be better is strange.

Is it the fee that annoys people? I don’t see how it’s his fault what we paid for him. I bet certain fans won’t bemoaning him when he scored the winner against Everton last season? Or in the Cup 1/4 final? Or saying what a crap assist it was for the goal that took us to the final?

I just find this increasing vendetta very very strange.

Some of the abuse isn’t reasoned as far as I read. Some of it is thought out and considered. But there’s some that is just ridiculous.

Claims that Cassidy (who can’t get a game for the U23’s) is a better bet?!

I went on the coach that day, I was about 12 I think. I went for a piss and got stuck in the toilet. Not wanting to look a fool I decided to not shout for help and waited until someone came to the toilet and ask them to push the door in from the outside. I reckon I was in there for 45 minutes whilst the coach was at a standstill on the motorway. It was like being stood in a sauna and I came out dripping with sweat and looking like a fool anyway. Awful.

    Fun times though, that era.

Hardly strange, his goal return for a striker at this level is embarrassing, he couldn’t trap a bag of cement, has NO composure in front of goal, loses the ball constantly and doesn’t hold it up!

He literally brings NOTHING to the team! That was my point, surely by putting Dalby or Cassidy ahead of him in the squad they’d do just as good or job if not better!!??

Nothing against him as a person or indeed his price tag. Strange that you bought that up because I never once mentioned his price tag?

My gripe is simple, he’s not good enough!

I think it's really quite simple - it's not "needless hate" or whatever else his apologists want to label it as, it's just that people are sick to death of watching a Premier League footballer who is physically incapable of doing the basics of football to any sort of level the vast majority of the time.

I am completely bored of watching what should be a simple first touch turn into a clearance, watching him trip over his own feet/the ball, the constant scuffs and mishits, his inability to make simple passes, so on and so on. These are all constant occurrences and it has gotten beyond a joke at this point. He hasn't shown a single shred of improvement in two and a half years and whatever "pace" he had is also gone.

His bit of work rate and his odd goal off the bench do not make up for his failings, and it also doesn't help when he gets a chance to start and gets completely pocketed by a bottom half League One defence, even in a game where we've scored 3 goals. The man is toilet.

He's scored 14 PL and 2 Cup goals for us, so it's simply not true that 'he literally brings NOTHING to the team'.

Whether you think that is sufficient is an entirely different matter.

16 goals from 88 appearances really isn't something to bring up to support him, it's a pretty terrible return for a striker. And before we get the "yeah but how often are his appearances sub appearances", ask yourself the question why he's constantly on the bench... NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

In my post I’ve even given examples of some good things he’s done that have given the fans great happiness and excitement - I accept they are too few and I can accept fans who think it’s not enough. But to say he brings nothing is just not true and it’s the fact that some fans are overstating their case I find strange.

It's been clearly explained many times. See page 3 of this thread for a recent reminder.

And he has given grief to fans. He mocked thousands of us away at Newcastle. I guess they didn't show that on the telly.

  24. Most of them playing off Deeney in a 442 I imagine, which suits him. As a lone striker in this 4231 system he is a shockingly poor fit and it shows up all of his weaknesses and none of his strengths. He brings nothing to this Pearson system.

It has been explained but then countered with acceptable points.

It’s the hyperbole that some are dishing out that is a bit over the top - just in my opinion. Some of it is reasoned and I have no problem with it. But as I say, some of it is easily countered with some stuff that Gray has done positively. The way that some are talking, it’s like we have a dearth of strikers who are guaranteed to do better just being frozen out.

Expressing a strong desire that the club look for another striker is fair enough based on Gray’s shortcomings, I see no issue with that. But the OTT claims that’s youth team players will certainly offer better or that Penaranda is more worthy of Gray’s place in the squad just aren’t very realistic and lend themselves to some fans on here thinking there’s a bit of an agenda that goes beyond what Gray offers as a striker.

Fair enough. But does it really matter what is posted on here? He's not getting booed at the match and that's what matters.

Edit and the agenda is simple. Ex luton, record signing. It can't be about race because have you seen the rest of our team... What other agenda do you think there could be??

Ex-Luton, fair enough. I’m sure he knew that card would be held when he joined. Record signing is out of his control but I can see why some think it’s a problem - I would counter that with the key moments I’ve highlighted and as a fan, just for me, those moments pay a large chunk of the fee off (it’s not my money after all!)

I don’t know in all honesty what the issue is. I just think it’s a bit OTT.

The valid points being made isn't about him being on the bench but a lack of alternative options before he is sold.

Gray is poor, but in the event of an injury to Deeney then I don’t see a better option. If we got a lump of money now with a realistic chance to bring in a replacement then great - but sending him out on loan doesn’t make sense.

Hear we are playing hardball with Leeds but a deal is still possible

They want us to pay them £10m, we are looking to spend closer to £5m

  34. To replace Deeney is a 4231 Gray is an appalling option. Success, Wellbeck, and probably Dalby all better in that specific role. Lump a ball up to Gray you might as well just hand it to the opposition.
