I don't care about his failure to score or his brief showing today, but as positive as I feel in general at the moment, he's just utter, utter crap and I can't wait for him to stop being an option and go.

I do like Gray, he's always put in a right shift, and has come up with some vital goals and performances for us, but he's an absolute fish out of water, I think it's best we say goodbye and either rely on Pedro, or look elsewhere. I'm sure there's a Championship club (Huddersfield with Grant?) who would be tempted by a swap deal (and a bit of cash from us)

    Exactly. Spot on.

I for one would be happy for Gray to go to Canada permanently and I don't know why others are so against it.

Agree. His attitude is great. Watch him celebrate after RP scores. No sulking that his shot was cleared. Then watch GD's utter disinterest when TD scores the second. It wasn't his goal so he's not bothered that the team have scored. Not saying AG is a better player but he has the right attitude to be a sub and we won't be spending big to buy a new first team striker ahead of Troy, Sarr or GD.

    Let me explain.

He was our record signing so expectations were very high. Not his fault of course.
He is ex-Luton and did very well for them, so for him to be accepted by watford fans he had to do better for us than he did for them. This was unfair on him as his exploits at luton were at a dreadful standard and it was impossible for him to repeat them in the premier league.

Neither of these things are his fault, but it's just the nature of football fans that most would be feeling this way.

And after a poor start for us, on one of the rare occasions he does score what does he do? Cup his ears at the away fans at newcastle. The worst and most senseless thing he could ever have done. From that that day on most fans would never accept him unless he scored an impossible amount of goals for us. The fact that he's continued to be crap has not helped.

So in short, he was always up against it as soon as he signed, but hasnt helped himself by mocking the fans and being generally rubbish at football.

Anyone insinuating it's an issue of race is a ******* ****head, by the way.

No that was argument of the Gray apologists who watch the match at home in their underpants. Those that were at the game were clear that it was aimed at them. This is supported by the fact that he did the same thing to burnley fans.

Yes! Thank you. I saw a picture of somebody celebrating a goal from the season he was here, and had no idea who the curly-haired maestro was. Completely forgot about him.

I saw him play live for Granada vs Barcelona at the Nou Camp and remember telling the forum that he looked a great signing as he was bloody fantastic. He was so comfortable on the ball and effectively controlled the game. However the pace of the championship was too much for him and he was consistenly robbed.
Mind you I also saw John McClelland play a shocker for Rangers in a 3-0 defeat as Pittodrie and was gutted when it was announced that we were signing him.

He had to play consistently to be ‘consistently’ robbed. He wasn’t even up to that.

You missed the point that in the Newcastle game it was a response to the by-no-means universal but vocal derision of his contribution on the pitch, those that groan when the ball bounces off him, that squeal when he pings a chance past the near post and froth when he fails to pick a pass through a forest of defenders. Those that are so desperate for something to go wrong with the way he was performing that they had picked him out as the weak link.

I don't disagree that it was an understandable human reaction from him, but PotGuy said he didnt understand why people get so upset about Gray and those are the reasons as far as I see it.

He DID play consistently when he was on the pitch. Too slow, held on to the ball too long, lost the ball. A goal away at Barnsley (?) rings a bell when he lost the ball right on the edge of our box, maybe even dribling back towards our goal...

It really feels like it's gone past the point of no return for him. He's always been a technically limited player but on occasion he's gone on scoring streaks. However, this season his confidence has utterly deserted him and has left us with a forward who's not that quick, can't trap a bag of cement, can't head the ball, can't pass and now can't finish. Even his goal at Norwich, which was the high point of his season, was a dreadful miskick which took a massive deflection (yes, yes, good movement to get there in the first place).

Every single game he comes on, he'll do something laughable, whether it's passing the ball straight off the pitch, tripping himself up trying a backheel, shanking a shot. He keeps going but there's just no point anymore. He doesn't seem like a troublemaker in the squad and always runs around a bit when he comes on but it's just all a bit sad now really and he needs a fresh start. He's obviously feeling down in the dumps as he posted some message after the Tranmere game about it being one of the lowest points of his career.

On the plus side, I did like his bromance with Richarlison and watching him speak a weird hybrid of Portuguese and Spanish with him in training to explain something to him.

I don't agree with this. Good players put the ball where the keeper/defenders can’t get to it, in most cases in one of the corners. It’s not fine margins, Deeney was exceptionally lucky with that chance and 8/10 times it’s saved. It’s not fine margins, it’s just skill, or lack of.

At the moment i think Gray has an important apart to play this season. He is only 28, and has scored 23 Premier League goals in 110 games on average one every 5 games. It is a legitimate criticism that eight league goals a season is not good enough for a first choice striker. But he works hard and is rarely unavailable for selection,

I would rather have him than Success, Okaka or Penaranda as back up to Deeney. The more gifted Welbeck in his last 92 Premier league games has scored 16 goals or one in 6. If Welbeck was as available for selection as Gray, then Andre would have gone in the summer. But he isn't so Gray is a player we should support and unless we get a good offer in this window is a valuable member of the squad. Whatever happens this season, i expect he will be moved on in the summer or offered an extension to his contract.

  34. Gray totally fluffed control of the ball twice in the buildup to our 3rd goal, we scored despite him because the ball fell fortunately twice to Pereyra, once in the clearance header falling to him and once in the rebounded clearance, and he had the talent to control and volley in the goal.

We have seen some bad footballers at the Vic down the years but a Gray is one of the worst. I’m struggling to think of a worse forward. He is incapable of even basic control of a football. His one saving grace is he does seem to have some kind of instinctive ability as a poacher, but a modern 4231 demands a much more complete player.

Of course this will all blow up in my face tonight as he miscues a shot and it spins over the keeper to win the tie tonight!
