Few people on Twitter (I know...) are saying that Leeds have made an approach to take him on loan.

We should dismiss this out of hand, unless they have to buy him after the loan.

Leeds said they need a striker - they'd still need one if Gray signs!

Hope NP tells him he's playing on Sunday, score & you stay, don't & you leave. Can't say fairer than that & should motivate him. It will likely be a fast paced game on Sunday which should suit him.

He's always been a confidence player, once he scores 1 he's more likely to go on a run. Either way I think half a season in the Champ will do him good, he will get more game time & score there, probably come back to us a better player or worth more if we dispose. All the better if we have a few Champ clubs fighting over him. Best case scenario.

Yes his performance against tranmere shows he'd tear up a lower league.

No harm looking on the bright side.

But I would say he won’t start. We’ve been doing well in the PL so it’ll be the same team. And Gray got a chance against Tranmere and flunked.

He has never gone on a scoring run with us, even after getting one - not sure why it would suddenly start now. And I don’t understand the logic of him becoming a better player by going down a division?

I agree that he won't start, but I think he should get some reasonable game minutes on Sunday & I hope he does well.

He did go on that little mini run last season, but it's all in context in regard to him normally coming on as sub, late on. He would probably start every game in the Champ & as a result score more & gain more confidence etc. That's what I meant by that. Also, If we did go down he is surely a ready made player for that league, bear in mind many of our so called big players would be shipped out at that point.

Yes you can say he's below average for a PL striker, but what I don't think is fair is that it's become trendy to slate him on here, when his record at WFC is not that bad, given that the vast majority of the time he comes on only as a late sub. Any striker will & has fluffed easy chances, but with Gray things are always highlighted & mocked.

The main reason I support him is because he's still a WFC player. He's proven to be a consistently hard worker, has a good attitude around the club & in training. More redeeming qualities than some of the other mercenaries we have around here at the moment. Especially the one that likes to post pictures of himself wearing pyjama pants on private jets, when we are in the relegation zone.

Good for you for supporting our players, but when it comes to Gray you can’t just judge him on his stats (which aren’t great anyway). The point with him is that, when the ball is played to him nine times out of ten he struggles to control it and the attack breaks down. So when he plays from the start our attacking play is seriously disjointed, hence why he is so often only a sub.

I don’t disagree - with the last two paragraphs for sure. I said a while back that some of the criticism is unfair and winning goals against Everton (H), Palace (Cup 1/4 final) and his assist for Deulofeu’s winning goal in the S/F shouldn’t be brushed away. I’d even go as far as saying that those 3 things alone are worth a decent chunk of that transfer fee.
But it’s inescapable that he’s lost a lot of what made him fairly prolific in the Championship. Much like Deeney has. Happy to support both as WFC players but both are not what they once were. Gray’s composure in front of goal and ability to regularly mis-kick is a worry and why many feel they can’t trust him.
I think he’s a confidence player who needs a solid run of games - he’s not going to get that with us I doubt.

Yes, he was without doubt a major reason we made it to the FA Cup final & like you say he's paid off a decent amount of his transfer fee already as a result of that extra income. He must still be worth 10-12m with add ons nowadays, so it's not such a bad buy & was worth a calculated punt by the club at the time.

Out on loan & review where player & club are in the summer.

He won’t be going on loan without someone else coming in that’s for sure. An injury to Deeney and we’d be left with Joao Pedro and Isaac Success as out only recognised strikers. I also doubt we’d sanction a loan without a mandatory fee being applied for a permanent deal.

If - and it’s a big if - the deal went ahead, I’d say that a loan fee of about £1m + 50% of his wages, and then a mandatory purchase fee of between £8m and £10m is about right.

It's hardly trendy. It's the persons opinion on him as a former record signing. Tbh I've slated him ever since hes been with us and rightly so. He doesn't even deserve to be anywhere near the bench Sunday let alone minutes on the pitch after his performance last weekend. Plus you should check out his Instagram post before slagging the so called over mercenaries at the club . Imo Gerry can sit there naked on a private jet if he wants as long as he is performing on the pitch. If you can't see the vast improvement in his attitude and desire to work for the team since Pearson has arrived, then you sir are deluded. Remember Tranmere are in a relegation battle in league one and Gray was devoid of any ideas. He has no football brain and offers zero to the club. Be has been given too many chances imo and needs to go asap.

Apparently, according to someone who seems reputable on Twitter, Gray wasn't involved in the high intensity 7 v 7 training today. Rumours of a loan to Leeds or Sheff Wed gathering pace.

We don't really need him, but until Welbeck is fully back in the fold, I don't think it's wise to reduce our squad any further with the current injury crisis we seem to be having right now.
