No one in particular as I am no expert, it is just a general observation of the talent that seems to be out there but has no prospect of getting regular game time with their current clubs.

One such player could be the young lad that came on as LB for Liverpool against Everton the other night and possibly some of his team mates, as most of them performed very well against a virtual full team of regular PL players.

    Your problem is?

I'm just making general suggestions as I am not a professional talent scout, but even I know there is a huge amount of talent out there that would probably jump at the chance to play regularly for a PL team like us, and the parent teams would probably be glad to give them the experience too.

He has a name, it's Yasser Larouci.

Well done, you've finally managed to make an actual suggestion.

I thought the young right back looked very good for Liverpool also. Williams I believe. A few mistakes but had a very promising performance.

He's been suggested somewhere on here every window for the last two years. Would be good, though current rumours are linking him with AC Milan. Our only hope may be if he'd rather stay where he currently lives.

It's probably not the most pressing area for us to add to at the moment, but Barcelona seem ready to let go their 20 year-old English central midfielder Marcus McGuane. He's an Arsenal youth product but was nicked by Barca 2 years ago after making one sub appearance for the Ar5e in a Europa League match.

Supposedly he's currently in talks with a number of English clubs. As I say, we don't really need a player of his age and profile, but if he fancies a move back to the north London area then given his pedigree it could perhaps be a Pozzo-pleasing bargain.

I would imagine he knows a few from our U23 squad. He was rated extremely highly. Be interesting to follow this especially if Quina goes out on loan.
Andreas Christensen I've always liked. Good on the ball but seems to get bullied about to easily. Pearson would definitely be able to sort that out. Loan with a view would be fantastic business if not him I've read Reece James could be made available for loan. He would sort out the RB problem immediately.

Like who? Spencer-Adams would've been 2 years below him. I wondered if Dele-Bashiru might have known him from England youth teams, but his last call up was for U16s and McGuane's first was for U17s.

I'd be stunned if Chelsea let James go on loan. He's made 16 appearances for them so far this season.

  16. Carpster

Well I was thinking Spencer-Adams and Kaylen Hinds but didn't take into account the difference in ages.
The James bit I read earlier, probably just a slow day for the journalists. They did write up about some other player recently introduced at right back for Chelsea. Maybe got the two mixed

Kyle Walker Peters is available for loan with Palace leasing the race. He’s cover permanently unavailable Janmaat and free up Kiko to continue his good work on the left. Assuming Kiko isn’t now out for 2 months of course.

Apologies if already discussed (I rarely come into this thread), but how would people feel about Glenn Murray for half a season? Apparently wants game time and not getting it at Brighton. Possibly adds a dimension we don’t currently have, with aerial ability from crosses.

  19. hornetboy1

Good shout. I like Murray and he even can get away with handling the ball in the box without being penalised.

However, he wants to leave Brighton for game time. He'd have the exact same problem at Watford as he does at Brighton, so unless we assured him first team football, I doubt he'd want to sign.

Plus, I don't think we need a striker. We have so much attacking talent already and I think we've forgotten how good we actually are.

Deulofeu, Sarr, Deeney, Pedro and Welbeck, Pereyra. That's ridiculous for a club like Watford to have. We even have players like Gray and Success who would probably play for the other strugglers if they were on their books. We are well off, but we've been under performing. Now the desire and intensity has improved, you can see we're now scoring goals. Before Pearson, we had scored 9 goals in 18 games. In his last 4 games we've scored 8 goals!!

Quality in defence is the biggest problem. Get that sorted and we'd be top half, if players maintain their current commitment to the cause.

37 year old Jermaine Defoe who can’t get in a team that plays in the god awful Scottish league?

For all the criticism I give Giraldi, there are some people on here that I’m convinced would do a worse job!

What about Crouchy? Yeah he's retired but he's a name I recognise and was good about ten years ago. Maybe we could do a swap deal with Gray going to do that podcast?

Could you suggest a transfer of another proven prem HG striker who might be available on loan?

  27. Burnsy

The difference is Defoe WAS proven. He failed at Bournemouth for that reason and now at Rangers. He’s too old. It’s obvious.

As for currently PL proven? Not really. Because players of that ilk are financially beyond us - we have to focus on players that have great potential to prove themselves or are proven in other leagues.

    Thanks.

I would also counter that in my original post, Gray out on loan and Defoe in, would be an upgrade.

  29. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

I really don’t think it would.
He’s not great. But I really don’t understand why people seem to fall over themselves to criticise Gray - there are strikers just as bad. And some worse. Gray has scored vital goals for us in the past year - what has Defoe shown in the past 2 years to make him an upgrade?

I’m not against the idea of swapping Gray for someone. But not Defoe for sure.
Also...people seem to forget, it’s not easy to get a striker who is content to be backup. Gray has shown a good attitude in that respect. Especially when he has Deeney in front of him - he could easily kick up a fuss about Deeney’s shortcomings and say he’s due a game.

Gray is a great pal of Troy isn't he so I don't think he would make a fuss Burnsy. And he's picking up a nice wage every week as well that helps. I would not mind a striker as GT himself said that would knock on my door each Friday and say boss why am I not being picked for the match ?

Surely the summer will see Gray offloaded to the Championship. We need a better quality of striker for certain. Someone that is young and hungry. Bowen and Grant are worth a look. Or play Success centrally for now.

What has Success done that Gray hasn’t?
Success has been dreadful for years, can’t understand why some think he will suddenly come good.

Give him a last chance to use his strength and play in players around him. Coach him to stay on his feet and to look up and pass more. There is something in there if it can be coached and coaxed out of him. Tell him he has the rest of the season as a Deeney replacement off the bench. A final chance and by final the very last one. Otherwise that's it. He is very frustrating but Gray despite goals from the bench and the odd moment here and there is not my idea of someone to play upfront alone. His effort against Tranmere was shocking.

For next season we can look at Deeney, Pedro as the two strikers when we get rid of Gray and probably Success and look to bring in someone who can be a positive in terms of scoring and creating chances. Welbeck in all likelihood is a lost cause with his medical history. Which is a shame as fully fit he's a cut above Gray and Success. Not prolific but definitely a step up.

Wouldn’t be surprise if Suarez or Cucho are brought in honestly next season.

But I can’t agree about Success. He’s had enough coaches and I’m sure he’s been told enough times - he’s not made it happen. Time to cut losses. Gray has been poor but there’s always a sense he can nick a goal - Success doesn’t make me feel that way.

  34. lowerrous

Yep, Success is much better as a 10 or a winger, he just doesn't have the goal threat to be the main focal point of an attack.

I would really like us to bring Suarez in next season. Chances are it will only happen though if we stay up.

He can barely pass either though. The only way he brings team mates into the game is when he holds off the defender and manages not to collapse dramatically.
