Giroud would be a great signing for us. But I imagine it’ll be much the same as Gary Cahill in the summer. We mention his name on here all month knowing he’d be a good signing. Then someone else on our level goes and gets him.
Yep. With Sarr and Delboy, we would certainly have the fastest front 3 in the division, with Deeney playing the no. 10 role.
You could well be right with your assessment of MV, but signing any player is a risk, as is the vast majority of managers when they are appointed at a new club. You just hope certain aspects/management can push the player with raw talent in a more positive direction & help them reach their potential to get the most out of them performance wise. At least IMO. The point being made (respectfully) about your Pearson & Javi opinions, at their respective times, is that you made it clear you could not see the logic of those appointments, but they have worked out at out time of need.
[/QUOTE] Juve have turned down €30m from Leicester and €40m from Dortmund for Demiral. So yes, it is crazy.
One of the main reasons that Vydra has failed to make an impact in the PL in recent years is that he lost a yard of pace after getting injured during his penultimate season here and never got it back; he's now more like Gray-level quick, rather than breeze passed defenders rapid. It took some of the cutting edge away from his performances. The fastest front 3 in the division would in any case probably remain Rashford, Martial and James at Utd.
West Ham can offer Barbosa slightly higher wages than us and are above us in the table. Chelsea are also rumoured to be in for him. Who said Bowen is less viable than Watkins? Probably both are equally as unviable as each other (this transfer wind0w). As others have pointed out earlier, it's probably very unlikely that Watkins will be sold in January given that Brentford are 3rd in the table. He could be obtainable in the summer though if we stay up. Bowen might as well leave in January given that Hull are down in 9th. I'd also be surprised if he doesn't end up at a higher placed club at Villa, though also is he actually someone we need? Isn't his favourite position right wing, where we now have Sarr starting?
I'm hoping that's the case with Batman, or at least that if he does leave he goes to Palace rather than one of our relegation rivals as I still consider him a very good goalscorer. I could turn out to be incorrect, but I reckon Giroud would just be more of a nice to have. I wouldn't be as worried if he went to Villa (if he was their only striker signing in January). He's a similar style player to Wesley (though of course at a higher level when he was in his prime) and Villa have still struggled even in the games when Wesley has done quite well. Also, can Giroud even manage 90 minutes of PL football week-in, week-out any more?
“Think about when he got into those goal scoring positions with us” yes, in the championship “I am led to understand he has a personal affinity with WFC as it was the highlight & best playing days of his career to date.” Why and by who? He was dumped out of the club by Gino once we got promoted, where does this affinity come from? “He would no doubt give it his all” Why? why no doubt? He was happy to go to both Burnley and WBA, the experts on WFC forums all seem to think these were the wrong clubs for him, so why couldn’t he and his agent of all people see this? Unless of course he is just happy to pick up his salary?? “A hungry player, with known abilities, knows club & manager well & will most likely work his socks off” Again, although nobody knows either way, all evidence points towards the exact opposite. A hungry player that will work his socks off who decided to move to Burnley, has never worked his way into the team and has never decided to leave. I think everyone needs to get over it and move on. If we are to add striking options we need to add significantly better than what we have, and have had in the past in the championship.
Had a great start with Milan but I can't see us buying any forwards this window. Especially now Pedro is here.
Giroud to moneybags AV seems to be picking up momentum per bbc gossip page. Would be a great move for Villa.
I’ve sussed it we need someone capable of playing centre half next week, who is good enough to play full back either side until called back to the centre. Anyone got the number of the hut at the training centre, I’ll give them the nod!
Going to Inter Milan to join Conte supposedly. Although given they have Lukaku, you’d imagine he’s just going to encounter the same issue there as the one he has at Chelsea in not being able to get a regular game.
After this last round of the FA Cup we have seen plenty of young talent out there that are nowhere near getting a league start with their teams, so surely we could go calling to some of the big clubs and see if we can get one or two of their young strikers or even other positions on loan for the rest of the season, or maybe even try and tempt them away permanently.
Seems Giroud will be going to Inter anyway. I saw a rumour today linking Villa to Glenn Murray instead. It'd be great if he's their only CF signing.
Those are pretty rare judging by what I've read from Villa fans, seems they really don't rate him - stats-wise he's profiling worse than Deeney this season in most aspects!
Oops, sorry. Copy/pasted from another thread: G90 = Simply the number of goals scored per 90 minutes played (or total minutes played divided by 90, then divide that number by the number of goals scored) xG90 = The same as above, but instead of actual goals scored, using expected goals (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40699431) SH90 = Shots taken per 90, same calculation as G90 A90 = Assists per 90 minutes, same calculation as G90 xA90 = Expected assists per 90 minutes, same as xG90 but for assists KP90 = Key passes (a pass that then leads to a shot) played per 90 minutes xGChain90 = Players can be involved in the creation of shots/goals and not get much credit as they don't get either the key pass or the assist. xgChain changes that by working out how many sequences of possessions the player is involved in and all the shots created by that then works out their xG to work out how much each player is involved in the creation of shots. xGBuildup90 = Basically the same, but with shots and assists removed to focus purely on the build-up play rather than the end result.
You have to take pens away from Deeney for a fair comparison. Wesley has 5 goals from open play so far for Villa compared to Deeney's 1. Not great, but not dreadful either. I really don't think Wesley has been helped either by how Villa play, he is usually way more isolated than Deeney is for us, with fewer runners off the ball around him, and and so it's little surprise that his xA is far lower. Compared to other big money number 9 signings brought to the PL this summer he's seemed fine, if not spectacular - he's done about as well as Haller, and better than Joelinton, despite being a bit younger, less expensive, and less experienced than both, and playing for an overall worse team. I don't think Villa fans can have too significant grounds for complaint all things considered.
Dont think Wolves like us much but a loan with an option to buy for Cutrone would be a shout, hasnt had a good run of games, got a bit about him and is different to what we have right now
