And the new Manager will be?

Flexible? Pragmatic? Or just splashing about in blind panic like clueless morons, whose every random move gets lauded as genius by the blind fans, who will convince themselves that a **** in a toilet is a good meal if Gino put it there and told them to eat it.

It is easy to think that our system has fallen apart; chancing the manager doesn`t work anymore, reports of imminent replacement being too optimistic and deciding that foreign manager won`t be the answer. So it might give us the idea, that those responsible, don`t know what to do anymore. Someone said earlier, that on the other hand it does show that they are flexible: in a way they are holding they hand up and say lets`s try something new.

I think we are often critisicing, for example managers, always sticking with same players or same system or just not being adventures enough. Now the Pozzo`s have done something else. They try to trust someone who wasn`t top of the list very early. Ok, it might be that early leaders were just not interested.

What has happened before, chancing the manager, has given the players the sign that no matter what they do they will not be touched. They will be there even if the manager goes. So now we will need stability, unless it is a total disaster, and we should stick with this man. And he seems to be the one, who is not taking any piss of the players. And if he is as good a motivator as the visiting Leicester supporters are telling, we should have a chance for a brighter future. Maeby even with this core of players.

If the manager is brave enough to admit that he needs right people around him, then I would like to see that same attitude from the owners. Will they be ready to change the personel responsible for the recruitment etc.?

Only if Pearson gives Giraldi a broken nose. His dominance over transfers, team selections and formations is one reason we play the same tune. He needs to back
off and let the new man do what he knows best for the club. If Giraldi doesn't like it, then he can jog on.

Whatever happens, this appointment is a welcome tonic. I've had a complete disinterest in going to the games recently, as the home run we've been on has taken it's toll.

Now there is renewed hope. Do we have a squad with the qualities to play in the Premier League? Yes. Do we now have a coach who will motivate the side? Yes. These are the ingredients you need to be successful.

Is Pearson a master tactician? No. Would he have been on the Pozzo short list had we been looking for a coach in the summer? No. Personally I would have loved us to get Setien. He's a brilliant coach, however, it's a case of needs must. We are 7 points adrift at the foot of the table, so we have to be pragmatic, and bring in the best guy for the situation.

What Pearson does offer is motivation. I think he and Deeney will really hit it off. I think that relationship could be formidable on and off the pitch. Deeney will instantly buy into Pearson and what he's all about. It's meat and drink to him. Once you have a big character like Deeney on board the rest tend to follow. We've lacked real leadership for a while now. Too many players have been in the comfort zone, and a nice coach doesn't not get that response over a long period of time. Gracia did get them up for the beginning of last season, but he was not able to maintain it. Flores was too much the same, far too nice for the situation. The players need a kick up the backside, and Pearson will certainly do that. Just like with Dyche, you will have to do the nasty things. You will have to run through brick walls for the cause. If you don't, you're out.

I saw under Gracia at the beginning of last season, that never say die attitude was there. Players were all pulling for each other and it's why we were successful. But that was allowed to erode and there was no one able to turn it around.

Now, when it comes to the recruitment process, I believe the club got the right man. Not so much in Pearson himself, but the team he brings with him, is exactly what we need at this moment in time. How the board got to him, maybe more luck than judgement. If their approach to rehire Gracia was anything to go by. That was mental. Stories of being turned down by many coaches needs to be taken into consideration as well. Whether true or not, it's clear we were casting our net out wide and we did not have a plan. For me, this season has damaged how I view Gino and the board. Maybe he doesn't have all the answers after all. Maybe he just makes it up as he goes and gets lucky? Who knows, but certainly the decisions that have been made this season questions their judgement.

However, now is not the time for negativity. We have a reason to be positive. The parameters have been reset and we now have a chance, whereas before we had no chance. I'm now looking at the possibility of survival, but that has to start today. Looking at the next 6 fixtures, a fully motivated Watford has a chance in 5 of them.

    Survival starts today.

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thong over and over again and expecting a different result, maybe Gino branching out into a different style of head coach could be a shrewd move.

I've had a soft spot for Craig Shakespeare ever since he starred in that wonderful 4-4 draw with Walsall in the FA Cup when Watford were in the old First Division and Walsall weren't.

Perhaps. But some fans need a reality check. If it wasn’t for the Pozzos we would have been in league 1 or the bottom of the championship for the last 8 years - with a ground falling to bits. Fair enough to criticise them for their mistakes, they deserve it, but a bit of balance wouldn’t go a miss.

There are more than enough fans on this forum to provide the balance on both sides without people tripping over themselves to do it.

‘If it wasn’t for the Pozzo’s...’ is such an overused phrase though. You’d be forgiven for thinking they’ve taken nothing out of the club. Watford have been good for them as they have been for us.

Quite right if people are sticking up for them. They have made loads of mistakes but I would still say the last 8 years have been better than League 1 and administration. But if the bed-wetters disagree then that’s up to them. It’s all about opinions I guess

I think the owners, probably until now, placed too little emphasis on the importance of the manager. Much has been said about how they can change the manager with the least amount of disruption possible. I don’t necessarily think they make it up as they go along, But I think they just thought the manager role is a lot less important than it actually is. Until now it’s worked but the margins are so fine it doesn’t take much for the wheels to fall off completely. The model with regards to player recruitment has worked until this season, or they’ve got away with it at least.

Can I just confirm that we can’t base any opinions on the Pozzo’s over what they have achieved over the whole time they have owned us?

I think it would be useful for everyone on the forum to know what can use to base our opinion on them.

Is it this season? This season and last season?

Any guidance would be gratefully received so that posters such as @davisp2 know the boundaries.

Valverde has been sacked and Setien has been appointed. I'm excited by this.

Good job he didn't take the Watford job. I said at the time he would have been superb for us, but in hindsight it could have been another Silva situation with him going after 5 minutes when the bigger club came calling.

It has all worked out well though, as both my clubs now have excellent coaches.

Only issue is when Barca come calling for 'Genial Person' at some point (credit to @Arakel for that one).

I reckon the club should give Shakey a new contract ASAP, that way Nigel can never be tempted to leave & if he does Shakey immediately takes over. Both basis covered.
