His nose was put out of joint when Everton made it clear he wasn’t their first choice - he only returned to the bidding when they came crawling with more money because they couldn’t get anyone else.

My point being, if we want him on a basis that suits us, we’d need to move quick and not after we have spoken to every other manager under the sun.

Drawback? He’d likely bring that hobbit Sammy Lee with him.

There is such a thing as 5th season syndrome after all.

All very sad really. Club have fallen to absolute bits, lowest point in recent club history.

But I say this as a man born from his mother, if the club & players are reading this & you can somehow pull it off, against all the odds, I will stand at the alter & believe in god, because it would have been sent by GT in heaven.

By recent history, are you just talking about Pozzo history? Because before them we had The Red Helmet, and believe me, if you think this is bad just cast your mind back 7 years. On the verge of administration and the trap door to oblivion.

Give me a sh1t season in the Premier League all day long compared to where we were just 7 years ago.

According to the Daily Fail, it's highly unlikely we'll have a new boss in the stands on Wednesday and Mullins may even have to take the team again against Palace.

BFS is a weird one. 6 months ago if there was even a sniff of a suggestion of him being our manager not a single one of us would’ve entertained it.

But desperate times call for desperate measures. If it’s even possible to save us from relegation then he is just about the only one who could do it, it’s literally what he does.

Appointing him is a bit like selling your soul, but if staying in the PL is the most important thing above anything else then he’s the man.

The money shouldn’t be an issue. For starters he know Moshiri was rich and desperate, he’d know it was a different kettle of fish with us and if he fancied the job he’d need to accept less money. But that’s not even the point, the value of staying in the league is huge, not just because of the immediate reward of the TV money, but we won’t have to flog all our decent players and set ourselves back to where we started five years ago. How value must that have?

I always assumed the owners had some sort of masterplan they were heading towards as far as maybe one or two managers they had in mind long term, and a style of play they eventually wanted to adopt.

The reality is now clear, they don’t.

They just appoint managers who happen to be free and tick a few boxes, there is no masterplan, other than they clearly don’t rate any English ones.

If they don’t even talk to BFS it can’t be the money, it makes absolute sense money wise if he can save is and if not we just start again next season.

It can only be pride, or a superiority complex that stops them. I’m not even saying I would want him, but if they don’t even speak to him then ultimately they’re just cutting their noses off to spite their face.

he’s an option that will give them the best possible chance to stay on the league, if he’s not even in their thought process then that’s an even bigger concern.

All true and an interesting point. I think it was the Leventhal report on Quique's sacking that repeated the claim that staying in the Prem is too important for the Pozzos to countenance relegation, which is what led them to sack Quique for a second time despite their lack of desire to do so.

As laughable as that may sound to us, if there's any reality in it, then appointing BFS is the most consistent move with that goal. If you truly are that desperate to stay up as owners, and you prioritise that over everything else, from playing style to the role of the coach, then your number one move has to be to approach BFS; there is no other manager who has a proven track record of doing what needs to be done at Watford right now.

I can reveal Duxberry and Pozzo always wanted BFS, they were worried the fans wouldnt put up with the style of football. So asked QSF to come in for 10 games, playing such awful football that having BFS feels like we're watching Brazil.

The more I think about it, the more I’m okay with BFS. It’d be a laugh at least, and bring some interest back to this absolute flop of a season. I think he’d get some confidence back in the squad and give us a proper plan for each match.

I hate myself for it, because he’s a **** of a bloke and he’s never the man to take us forward, but short-term, he might give us a chance.

Well can you write to Gino or that numpty Duxbury and tell them to bring in obese Sam now, the supporters are absolutely fine with it. It’s all very interesting that he can get yet another useless Spanish or Italian coach in, but we want fatty

All you people begging for large undies need your heads examined. The only thing worse than being relegated is being relegated with that fat shed at the helm.

I'd rather be relegated than see Sam Allardyce in charge.

Doubt the club agree with that, though.

Like others I'm not overly enthused at the thought of us appointing Big Sam, but looking at who's readily available, and who we could realistically attract based on our finances/standing (which rules out Slaven Bilic and Rafel Benitez, who would have been two of my favourite choices to have managed at this level), he does seem the best out of an underwhelming bunch.

However, I'm not sure why so many are dead against Mark Hughes. Granted he's lost his way somewhat (although, though he did go stale with Stoke, the fact that they have gone into freefall since his sacking, suggests the problems were deeper seated, and they went down for similar reasons that we look in danger of doing, an aging squad and apathy among players and fans, in realizing that playing in the "best league in the world" isn't all it's cracked up to be), but up until 2016-17 I rated him much more highly than Allardyce (at least during his somewhat patchy post-Bolton days, before which I would have probably rated them equally). Got three traditionally second tier clubs to top 10 finishes, including a UEFA Cup place for Blackburn long after the Walker money ran out, and the Welsh team on the brink of their first major tournament for over 40 years. A Fergie protege, his teams usually play good football and he's much younger than BFS at 56 with still a fair bit of gas left if he can return to his form up to the end of 2015-16, and even last year he rescued Southampton from almost certain relegation from a worse position than we are now in. I don't see why that all makes him a "disastrously bad manager".

I think Big Sam is a bit overrated as a Premier League escapologist. It's only at Sunderland where he's avoided relegation convincingly from a dire position, at Palace (whose fans have never rated him that highly as a whole) he took a long time to get going with a squad comparable in quality to ours now, and he did a great job at Bolton of course, but even during their worst seasons they were never really adrift. Even in the worst case scenario, assuming the pre-season relegation candidates continue to surprise, and the top teams continue to drop points against sides they should be beating, and it takes say 41 points to stay up (allowing for goal difference), we will still only need lower top 10 form to survive, which will be difficult but far from impossible with the several quality players we have. Given Mark Hughes' record mentioned above, that should be achievable if he regains the form and mindset that made him one of the highest rated English managers and appointing him would be hardly more of a gamble than with BFS, and at best a much better long-term appointment to give us the stability we have had very little of for so long.

Talking to a fellow orn and he made the point that we need a spots psychologist.

Would this be something that a new coach would bring in as part of his training schedule or something the club would do? I don’t know maybe they have one already and he/she is *****.
