    We have.

Put it up at the weekend.

For a bitter old commie, I don't mind a bit of Xmas, me.

    Good to hear Clive.

We’ll be putting ours up on Sunday.

Surely all decorations are equal and they're all hung on the bottom level. Clive has applied for a bauble this year and if lucky may be allocated one by 2027.

Put it up on Sunday and tried to hang myself from it after the Saints match the previous night.
    Like the team,I failed miserably!

Imaginary trees are the future, and the best thing is you don’t have to pack them away in January ;)

Get a live tree and then plant it in January.
Plastic trees are only really bad once thrown away. If they're made of recycled plastic and used for many years then net is probably a good one. Especially if you consider shipping is spread of multiple years rather than repeated every year.
Chopping down a tree is OK if responsibly farmed and at least one is planted in it's place. Growing trees process more CO2 than established ones.

I've had a live tree before and planted it. although it died a couple of years later. For the last 10 years I've had a small plastic tree which is reused every year. Upgraded to low energy LED bulbs a couple of years ago. It's about as green (pun intended) as it can get without being a miserable sod.:D

One year when I was growing up my Dad bought a real tree (with roots) and after Christmas he planted it in the garden to see if it would survive for the following year. It did, and we repeated the process for three years before it finally died in the fourth year.

Ayletts sold me ours about 10 years ago. It has been repotted every other year (in some Scandy plastic thing that stops it getting over watered), it's brought in on the day before Xmas eve (the day we traditionally decorate our tree) an we make certain it's well-watered with rain water (which I collect for my son's carnivorous plant collection). It goes back to the shady part of the garden where it lives (with a sprinkling of chicken manure) before 12th night. It's worth all the hassle because of that natural smell of pine on the morning of Xmas eve...

I have a plastic one which must be 15 years old. We put it up on Saturday and the kids decorated it on Sunday, with loads of tat they've created at school and clubs. It looks ghastly, but in a jolly, child friendly sort of way.

That's the best sort. Nothing worse than some coordinated trendy effort to suck the soul out of Christmas.

I'm not allowed to do our Christmas tree. I did it so badly one year the GF has banned me - it's usually done when I'm out on the first Saturday of December.

My brother used to keep his xmas tree in a cupboard, ready decorated from the previous year. It was just a case of opening the door moving the tree forward a couple of feet then closing the cupboard door behind it.
    Reverse the process 2nd Jan.

I agree but we've gone full circle in our house now I have teenagers. Where once the kids' efforts resulted in a colourfest of a tree festooned with all the homemade tat from over the years, now they insist on decorating it in a pre-agreed (after many pointless arguments between them) colour scheme. It does end up looking very pretty but I miss the flashing coloured lights, egg box baubles where the paint and glitter have come off and random Disney decorations.

I am not ashamed to say I love Christmas, to the extent that we have 3 trees - 2 real ones (1 big, 1 small) that we replant in the garden and a plastic one we've had for more than 10 years now.

My 12 year old wanted it all coordinated and like a shop window, but my wife overruled her, plus I said that when she'd gone to bed I'd be adding all the ones they had bought and made over the years.

I do love Christmas too. I grew up in a wacky, dysfunctional family and that was the one time of year that we always stayed with relatives or had a houseful and there a semblance of normality and fun rather than the usual dramas.

Christmas as a young adult meant getting as p1ssed as possible on Christmas Eve, and spending all day Christmas Day in the pub until kicking out time when we'd find a curry house. Since getting with my now wife 7 or 8 years ago I've made more effort with Christmas and learnt to love it. My daughter is nearly 5 so she's at a brilliant age for it, this year promises to be a whole lot of fun.

The only downside is my wife being a Sheff Utd fan so Boxing Day could be a miserable affair for me.

Put mine up last weekend. A bit early but at least it's done. Went against tradition this year and got a black one.
Used white tinsel and green lights. Looks pretty good. I guess the black tree is a sign to forever remind me that
the team are in the relegation zone over the Xmas period.

We have one of those! We laughingly say it's Steptoe's Christmas tree because I don't think there are two decorations the same. Little 'uns at the top, big branch bending school creations at the bottom.

We have an ancient and battered school-made angel at the top, which does a spectacular nose dive plummet for the floor if anyone breathes within 10 feet of the tree.

indeeed. May Day and a 4 day working week.

We have acquired an artificial tree this year as we’re moving house on the 13th and couldn’t go too overboard on the decorations. Having children has rejuvenated my love of Christmas.

Indeed. I think with a 7 and a 6 year old, I'm at about Peak Christmas.

They are still young enough to believe in magic and santa, but old enough to do things with us, partake in crafts and so on and make it enjoyable.

I remember the Christmases in my 20s and 30s as something of a non event, where the 3 month build up was targeted at everyone but me and where, apart from getting piss drunk a little more often than usual, it was not much different to any other time of year.

Indeed mine are 7 and 4. I got to be Father Christmas at the school fair today and it was awesome. One of my best ever Christmas experiences and was such fun seeing all the kids believe in me and listen to my Brian Blessed Christmas style voice today.

You’re right it was all alcohol Christmas Eve nights out with friends and I confess I did some shameful things in The Horns opposite the library. Now I still drink loads but it’s spread through the day so that I pass out around 4pm.

Christmas Eve was always the biggest night out of the year for me and my mates. It peaked when we were at university and everyone was back home, so we used to go all out.

I remember waking up fully dressed, covered in kebab and had no shoelaces. had to go and throw up halfway through my Xmas dinner.

These days I always go out of my way to tone it down and swerve stupid drinking.

Christmas day always nice to have the family together and all sitting down to play monopoly punctuated with watching Morecambe and Wise and the Two Ronnies

Nowadays a bit of a non event

Low point was working overseas and having to work Xmas day. Remember a disastrous attempt at cooking on a hob with burnt cabbage a particular highlight

Was also breathalysed by the cops whilst broken down on the hard shoulder, mean spirited lot but fortunately under the limit
