I’d give Mullins the job until the end of the season. The alternative is a journeyman appointment like Houghton. I think he has done well with the U23, and we need to stop making short term appointment’s that just compound the problem.

Yep, think its down to the players on the whole. Don't think its coincidence that we have tailed off every season of our recent spell in the premier league, down to mindset, personal and group ambition.

I think we either need to go for BFS or Benitez if we want to stay in the league, or just **** it off completely and go for someone like Mullins and accept our fate.

Anybody like Hughton or clement is a complete waste of everyone’s time.

Who do people actually want then? Have a feeling no matter who is named there'll be the usual moans and groans from those complaining why we didn't hire a coach that has recently managed in the Champions League, as if they're lining up to join Watford.

We would never be able to hire a manager like Benitez. His salary would be through the roof.

    1) Big Sam. If we want to try and stay in this league, he's the man. Knows how to keep teams up. Proven.
    2) Hughton. Promotion from the Championship next season.
    3) Hayden Mullins. If they want to write the season off, which right now isn't the worst idea, then let's give it this man till the end of the season. Could be worth a go.

I think if we get Klopp or Pep then people will be ok with it, otherwise there will be complaints. We are a massive club and therefore should be attracting world class managers.

What I would ask people is, what exactly is it about Mullins and his record that has got so many people thinking he would even be an appropriate candidate/capable of stepping up to be a full time Premier League manager at this point in time?

I would also ask how many times a club in danger promoting an assistant or youth team coach from within because they 'will give youth a chance' and 'know the club' has worked in recent times? Conversely, how many times has it failed?

This pretty much except Hughton. Wouldn't have him, nice guy but not where we want to be. Get a Joka mk2 in championship

i'm probably in the minority that wouldn't mind Hughton. Thought he did a good job at Newcastle & did a fairly okay job at Brighton. Got them promoted and kept them in the Prem with a small budget. Admittedly the football wouldn't be great, but it can't be any worse than what we've been served up over the past few months. He also likes to play with wingers, getting the ball into the box, which would be ideal for the likes of Sarr & GD. Would prefer him than the likes of Clement, Pulis etc.

If Flores had half an attacking plan like that we may not be in this position. Let us know how the interview goes.

Its a good point, we do need a manager who plays a system that suits our players. Preferably accommodating Sarr and GD out wide and Bobby P linking them up some how. Problem is that's probably a 4-3-2-1 and we haven't really got anyone whose good up top on their own.

Well the article says we'd prefer British, not that we'll definitely get a British coach. Plus Alan Nixon seems to think we're after a foreign coach. I'm going for Di Matteo. Premier League and Championship experience plus I seem to remember him coming to the Vic a few times when he was out of work.

So we're using the same approach as our world class, sought after scouting network? Every bang average manager possible in a hat. I think we've just got incredibly lucky so far.
Let's face it none of the names mentioned on this thread so far are any good. Big Sam is the best of a steaming pile of dross. Unfortunately it's that or some unknown flip of a coin. If the owners were prepared to gamble why not go for the Leeds manager or Johnson from Bristol?
They might even spend a few quid and buy some defenders from the league below instead of shyte from Spain and other obscure leagues. But we all know they won't....

So the players want a British coach according to Sami Mokbel in the DM and talks have been held with Hughton and Clement. Allardyce has some admirers in the dressing room as well apparently. There's no denying that the squad need a motivator to whip them into shape. I never thought I would say this but Allardyce could be the man for the job!!

Joao Pedro can play up top but his season in Brazil completely imploded, no idea what state he's in right now. Success when fit can also play that role albeit without scoring.

Apparantly Scott is making a strong case for Noel Edmonds. Scott is confident he has the experience to make the transition from light entertainment to Premier league football. No team he's managed has ever been relegated.

AL, who has insider knowledge, already said we are looking on the continent.

The DM is just setting the groundwork for the 45th rehash of 'British football DISGRACE as Premier League left with just ONE British manager after Watford appoint (insert name here)'

We will be getting a Spaniard or Italian who managed a top division side at some point over the last 3 years, as usual

Exactly. Some people on here will come and tell us he's brilliant because of how he got Brescia to 8th in the table after a similar start to is in 2014, but it will end badly, he will be sacked in the summer and we will go into next season with about 9 exits from the playing squad, a new coach, a new division and a total snafu of a club.

Yeah but the ex-Brescia manager knows how to beat the big boys as they drew with Roma in 2015.

Daily Mail pushing a pro-British, anti-European agenda? Well I never...

As much as it pains me to say it, Allardyce is the only mentioned British manager I would be happy (ish) with. Any of the others and we'll have given up on survival, this season. Setien would be entertaining. Marcelino a pipe dream.

Wouldn’t it be classic Watford to appoint Big Sam who has a track record of never being relegated only for him to get relegated for the first time managing us.

So... that leaves us with the possibility of one of these mysterious foreign managers? Spooky.
