Meeting called at London Colney for tomorrow where he will be relieved of his duties.
    I fear it’s come 2/3 weeks late.

Question is - who has Gino got lined up already?

On the WO site Flores sounds like a man on the brink waiting for his P45 and pay off .

Very interesting read on The Athletic. Claims a new man will be in place before Wednesday's match against Leicester. The criteria is that has to be unemployed and never to have worked for the club before.

They are saying the new coach won't be on the tip of everyone's tongues and from continental Europe most likely.

    Bookies have stopped taking bets.

Just 85 days after his re-appointment at Watford, The Athletic understands that Quique Sanchez Flores has now overseen his last game in charge of the club and will be relieved of his duties on Sunday. It is understood that a meeting at the training ground has been called where the Spaniard will be told that his second spell in charge is now over after the damaging 2-1 defeat by Southampton.

Watford are bottom of the Premier League and six points from safety after losing a game that they had led up until the 78th minute. They have only eight points from 14 games and only four teams in the Premier League era have stayed up with as many points or fewer from 14 games. Only two of those, Wigan in 2007-08 and Sunderland in 2013-14, did so in a 38 game season.

Sanchez Flores has taken charge of 10 Premier League games since taking over from Javi Gracia in September and has won only one.

The players will report to the training ground on Sunday for their usual recovery session the day after a game and it is thought they will be given an opportunity to say their goodbyes to Sanchez Flores face to face after a tenure that has failed to live up to expectations.

The Athletic has learnt however, that some squad members won’t be disappointed that the decision has been made. It’s understood that the mood in the dressing room has slowly deteriorated over the past few weeks with some players losing trust and faith in the Spaniard’s ability to turn things round. It is also understood that Sanchez Flores’ decision to fail to bring on captain Troy Deeney in the second half of the match at St Mary’s and instead introduce Andre Gray — an option less able to hold up the ball than the Watford captain, has helped to sour the relationship further with some sections of the squad.

Once the winning goal went in — James Ward-Prowse’s 25-yard free kick — Watford’s senior management team of the chairman Scott Duxbury, the technical director Filippo Giraldi and owner Gino Pozzo sat stony faced in the St Mary’s Director’s Box. Giraldi was seen to exchange words with Pozzo and then shake his head, just to ensure everyone was in no doubt of the graveness of the situation that they face.

Sanchez Flores spent ten minutes in the post match news conference answering questions predominantly about his future. He reiterated once again that it is out of his control but also chose to remind the public that he had ultimately made a gallant choice to return to Watford because they were in need.

“I would regret if they came to my house and they said ‘you can help us’ and I stay there. This is not me, it’s not my character,” he said.

His intention was perhaps simply to highlight that he had been asked to come on a rescue mission. Unfortunately it only served to remind people that he is clearly not suited to that sort of role, as there has been little to no bounce or tangible uplift since his return. He has only won one of his ten league games in charge, his team have only scored seven goals in that time.

After the club’s previous defeat against Burnley last Saturday Sanchez Flores’ job security was precarious to say the least. The Athletic has learnt details of how the week panned out for him and his bosses behind the scenes.

Last Sunday Watford’s hierarchy held talks with Sanchez Flores at the training ground where the head coach outlined his confidence that he was still the man to turn things around citing that his coaching staff are working in great depth and detail.

It’s understood the hierarchy at that stage were unsure whether or not they would decide to make a change, despite the assurances. They decided to consider their options for another 48 hours with the squad on a scheduled day off on Monday, with the aim of making a final decision on Tuesday once they had gauged the mood of the players when they returned to training. One source felt that the team’s performance, despite having been in relative control for the first half once again showed worrying fragility having conceded the first goal. They also believed that a talented squad needed a kick start having stalled.

After training on Tuesday the decision was made to retain Sanchez Flores for at least the Southampton match. However, it’s known planning for a possible replacement had begun to ensure that if the worst happened against Southampton a quick transition could be made. Although critics may see that as undermining of the current incumbent, it is the Watford way and Sanchez Flores would be under no illusions of that fact. Remember he was primed to take over two weeks before Gracia was dispensed with.

The Athletic has learnt that at that point the criteria for the new man was quite simple — they needed to be currently out of work and to have not previously been employed by the club, as Sanchez Flores was.

Sanchez Flores’ appointment, which came three years after he had previously left the club, was viewed as a gamble by some after the manner in which he had departed.

He had led Watford to 13th on their return to the Premier League and reached the FA Cup semi-final but departed at the end of the season with his relationship fractured, seemingly beyond repair, as The Athletic explained when he returned.

It appears that when reviewing their managerial position last week the club had no intention of making another reappointment. That would rule out Slavisa Jokanovic, who won promotion to the Premier League in the 2014-15 season but was replaced by Sanchez Flores after the Serbian failed to agree a new contract. He is currently in charge of Al Gharafa in Doha. He won 21 of his 36 games in charge at Vicarage Road and secured automatic promotion after he’d became the fourth Watford head coach in a tumultuous month in September 2014 after the departures of Beppe Sannino, Oscar Garcia and Billy Mckinley in quick succession.

Jokanovic’s previous job was managing Fulham in the Premier League, and said in a television interview in Qatar in the last week that he would be open to a return to England. If the criteria is set in stone then neither he or another former coach that could return with goodwill attached will be back — Gianfranco Zola. The Italian is unattached after leaving Chelsea when Maurizio Sarri departed at the end of the season. He, like Jokanovic, is remembered for playing an attacking and attractive style of football, even though that was in the Championship.

The likelihood is though that a head coach will be recruited from continental Europe, that like many of the previous appointments, will be one that isn’t necessarily a name on the tip of peoples tongues. That will become clear prior to the game against Leicester on Wednesday when it is expected the new man will take charge.

One other factor in the club making another managerial change is whether it will lead to any of the hierarchy feeling they are accountable and wish to step down as a result of a situation that doesn’t reflect well on those doing the hiring and firing as much as the players on the pitch or the coach in the dug out. A challenging season just got even more so.

Time for the next spin on the managerial wheel.
A new face or an old favourite? Or are we giving a player manager a whirl?

It's bizarre.....but Flores has been taken off the OddsChecker for next manager to leave his post. AL has posted a very detailed account for QSF being sacked, yet not one person has posted this on Twitter......very strange, that this forum is ahead of the curve......thanks to AL of course.

Bit annoying The Pozzo’s won’t even consider paying compensation for a manager.

Not that anyone employed would want to come take this job.

Tight ***** won't pay a penny for someone when they know they've completely ****ed it and we're basically already down. They're binning Flores simply to keep up appearances. He'll no doubt be replaced with another no hoper.

Whoever was the driving force in appointing him has to go as well. Anyone who endured the majority of the 15/16 season surely knew this was coming.

I’m just annoyed I didn’t bet a lot of money on this when he was still 2/1 to be the next manager sacked an hour ago.

What I don’t like from the article is that it states that Giraldi seems once again to be high up in the decision process.

We have another transfer window approaching. It’s a perfect chance to clear the decks, including Giraldi. I fear we are changing the name above the door, but little about what lies behind the door.

QSF has to go. But once again all the faults and errors are piled onto the coaching staff and not the players or board. We have a lot of cowards filling the hallways of the club.

What saddens me a little is Watford should never have brought Flores back. The only people that though it was a good idea were the Watford board. I've not spoken to any fans who thought it was a good idea.

This now tarnishes his legacy. We had a great song for him in his first spell, which was never used this time around. That speaks volumes. Flores did a fantastic job keeping us up in our first season, but in the end it was a relief when he went. It was a case of thanks for managing to keep us up. We'll give you a grand ovation when you go, but there's no need to come back.

Having said that, I'm a little surprised at how much vitriol was given towards Flores this time around from virtually everyone. He didn't seem to have any credit in the tank with fans, which I was not really expecting. I thought the majority would be on the fence or supportive of him for a lot longer.

I was critical of him for the way he set us up at home. I thought it was just ridiculous, but 5 at the back had its merits in the away games. Doesn't matter now though, but it's another mass clear out and more compensation payments.

Never a fan of a sacking and we will be ridiculed on social media but right decision in my view.
What has been the most disappointing is the lack of intent to go out for the win at home.
Whether the incumbent can turn things round with the current squad remains to be seen remains to be seen. Would like youth given a chance .
Let's see what happens later, think if fair to say couldn't see Flores winning enough games to bring us back in touch with those towards the bottom, over performing of expected strugglers and failure of the big guns to hoover up points from the no hopers hasn't helped.

A few things on social media etc and quick moving Italian sport accounts. As I said, rumours are all they are. Just the name I’ve seen repeated a few times already from just glancing but who knows. The sacking isn’t even official yet so everything is just guess work, educated or not.
