I have never grasped the concept of arguing on an online forum.

Do you really care if someone has a little dig at you on cyber space? Fair enough having a debate over a couple of posts but often these threads just descend into pages upon pages of the usual suspects trying to get the last word in.

That's generally the issue with debate these days overall. It's not about right, wrong or consensus. It's about 'winning' the debate. Because of the faceless nature of the forum, this means it runs and runs and runs because it's all anonymous.

One person says 'I want our owners to leave because of <insert reason here>', some people agree and support said view. A different, more vocal crowd attempt to shut down that view with personal attacks and threats.

You only have to go into the Politics forum for a few minutes, if you can bear it, to see it happening and understand who the main players are and witness their grandstanding to a imaginary Question Time audience. This spreads, sadly, into the football areas of the forum.

This post is a bit of an oxymoron for me and entirely missing the point. Our defence was letting in 3 goals per game before QSF, the switch to 5-3-2 helped. Now our defence is even weaker through injury and as you say we literally have no central defenders, I would’ve thought the defence needs even more help?

Over a 3-5 game period the amount of goals we are averaging is a low enough amount to still pick up the points we need, but we just don’t have any strikers to put the ball away at the other end.

for me with our awful defenders (and now complete lack of centre backs) it’s not the formation, it’s completely obvious, it’s not having somebody to score goals for us.

Apart from the Deeney/Igahlo purple patch we’ve never had a prolific enough goal scorers in our entire time in the PL.

I think we’ve been lucky in previous seasons and Doucoure, Bobby P and Gerry scoring worldies on a semi enough regular basis has always papered over what is a huge gaping chasam in our team, the attack.

Just like we’ve got away with our creaking defence until now, we’ve got away with a championship strike force as well. But you can’t rely on players who are not essentially centre forwards to come up with regular pieces of magic forever and this season it’s caught up with us. When your only recognised goal scorer is Andre grey you will struggle to win or draw games regardless of formation or how many goals you let in.

I think this line here is what irritates others about some of your posts. Once you form an opinion there is no chance of changing it. I think most people know were in trouble and could and may well go down, they just don’t think it’s over yet which of course it isn’t.

    Here we go again.

Never in my life have I wanted Watford to lose a game of football, let alone cop a thrashing, but I fear anything less is unlikely to see Flores removed before his sterile game-plans have condemned us to the Championship.

I've witnessed every relegation since 88, but I've never seen such crap served up as this season. The sooner Flores is sent back to the land of siestas, the sooner a Watford team will give themselves a decent chance of winning the odd game of football.

This absolutely spot-on. The only thing I would slightly amend is your terminology. To me Deeney is a centre forward (and has been a very good one over the years) but has never been a striker/goal scorer. He gets a reasonable share, as all forwards and indeed midfielders should, but what we are really missing is a striker which is where the Sarr money should have been spent.

I agree with you about Deeney, I mentioned him because he was part of the the reason Igahlo had his purple patch as he laid on a lot of his goals. They worked well together for a period and as a partnership scored a lot of goals. Deeney on his own will never score enough goals for us. Gerry will score a sublime goal every 10-15 games (not enough) Bobby P might have one very short good spell per season (not enough) and Doucoure has gone massively off the boil. This went way back before QSF took over. He was good for at least 6 goals a season, often a blockbuster from outside the box which probably gave us a result that papered over the cracks that we are seeing now. He’s not doing that anymore so there is literally nobody to put the ball in the net if they aren’t.

Wellbeck could’ve been the answer, he could’ve been a master stroke, but as always he was your classic budget/gamble/question mark pozzo signing and it’s bit them in the arse.

Supposedly Adam Parkes, the u23 GK has traveled with the team. Imagine the scenes on here if he is on the bench. Can see it now, we need a win and he brings the u23 GK, why not Hungbo etc.

This is going to be epic if he makes the squad.

Southampton haven't won in their last 8 games.
Southampton's home record this season: 0 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses.
Southampton have a losing streak of 4 matches at home

When I see stats like that, I know we’ve lost.

I didn’t say you did but sometimes you stick to your guns despite the fact you are clearly wrong. Then you get annoyed with people having a go at you but the pig headed way you can be sometimes is why people have a pop. I suspect you prefer it like that though

Again....you just don't understand. You think Watford will stay up, and tell people they're wrong if they don't agree with you. That's not someone who is wrong, it's just someone who thinks differently to you. Have you always had this problem with intolerance?

Maybe if Mazz. has forgotten his flag he could wave his (as yet unspecified) coat around for a bit instead. After all Geordies are perfectly happy to go 'topless' at football matches in mid-winter. They're ''ard up north'.

I have said we’re in trouble but think, maybe wrongly, that we will stay up. It’s not a view that is obviously wrong as there are plenty of games left. What you say is that there is no hope at all despite a win this evening taking us 2 points from 17th. We may go down But as it stands it is far from 100% guaranteed. I’m sure you won’t change your mind though so this is fruitless. On the plus side. I’m now in the warmth of the slug and lettuce in Southampton and am tempted to stay there as it’s freezing outside.
