Dunno what's worse.. our current form or reading the monotonous posts on the forum from adolescents (I hope that's what they are.. for their sake) constantly berating our own support for being "happy clappers" because they aren't slitting their wrists or calling for everyone from the owners to the players to the catering staff to "get out of our club!" What they really mean of course is that they are better fans than us because they care more. Nothing like a poor run to bring out the superior fans amongst us.. and the way they sarcastically pretend to be happy clappers themselves is pure genius (I don't think) Yes we are in a downward spiral.. and this season might be a write off.. and sure you are entitled to your opinions about the current state of affairs. But why not show some decency and stop attacking your fellow supporters at every turn. You're making things more depressing than they already are.
For balance the “happy” fans have invested plenty of time sticking the boot into our fans who dared to question the running of the club in the summer. Some fans can’t manage a post without taking a swipe at “entitled” fans, whatever that even means, and virtue signalling their own credentials. Fan unrest works both ways. The irony is the posters who took the most flak in the summer (like Nath) have been proved correct.
Didn't we have an embarrasing three sided ground a few years ago? Weren't we passing buckets to raise funds round the Rookery trying to save the club a decade ago? We have been through worse, this isn't a video game where you can reload when you hit a bad patch
Well a bit of balance is never a bad thing.. but I've seen very little evidence of that. I haven't seen many "unhappy clappers" digs tbh. Dunno about the summer but of late the traffic all seems to be going one way. He may well have been proved correct (not like he was the only one) but that's not an excuse to lay into your fellow supporters imo. Pull them up if you disagree but a little dignity is also never a bad thing.
The unhappy clapper swipes are less regular now because they’ve been proved right. But even yesterday someone posted that a benefit of relegation was that it would be “flush out the entitleds” or words to that effect. And that was in a thread where posts were pretty measured and resigned given we lost 0-3 at home. It was just a catty mindless swipe at other fans.
I would love to live in the world some people on here appear to live in. Everything that happens has to be someone’s fault . Someone has to be entirely to blame . Well sometimes ‘sh*t happens’. Even in other businesses a Company can be well run and then something happens to screw it up ( eg Brexit ). In football it’s even more the case . There absolutely no way to guarantee success on the pitch, short of throwing literally billions at it and even then ( as Man City are demonstrating ) that won’t guarantee anything. Watford is a well run club and yes the Pozzos have made some mistakes ( and are not above criticism) but anyone wishing them out on my opinion honestly is deluded about what we should be expecting from our owners . They have built a decent talented squad that should be capable of staying up . However Things have gone horribly wrong with form/ injuries and a large dose of bad luck and now we clearly have a side devoid of confidence in sharp contrast with 12 months ago . I too feel despondent today after yesterday and I think we are almost certainly going down . It’s been utterly depressing watching this and I can’t actually even remember what it’s like to even celebrate a goal However , I firmly believe the Pozzos will learn from their mistakes and with them at the helm we have a chance of coming back up though it will be very hard . I simply don’t understand these over reactions and everything having to be the owners fault . It reminds me if West Ham supporters nearly rioting at the London stadium because of perceived under investment in team . No doubt they will still be blaming their owners for their under performing even though they invested heavily in the summer . Can we not have a more measured repossessed to a bit of adversity
I’m not Pozzo out in the slightest, but my god they need to learn fast. It’s been horrendous decision after horrendous decision this past year.
The thing that annoys people is that this was all so avoidable. We're just fans on this forum, not people making a very comfortable living from football, yet everyone knew it was the defence that needed to be strengthened this summer and it wasn't. I even read an interview this week with Miguel Britos saying he turned down another year long extension. Similarly, the majority of people on here questioned Quique's reappointment, as we'd seen firsthand how it ended last time. Again, the fans being proved right ahead of the club management. It's a ridiculous position to be in but the club would actually be in a better position if they'd listened to a bunch of anonymous randoms on this forum. That is the most frustrating thing about this season, the fans could see what was wrong but the club hierarchy couldn't.
I've been saying this for years. Gino should have listened to me. But in all seriousness, the guys running the club usually know better than the average guy on the street. However, this season they have been spectacularly wrong in virtually every decision they've made. I don't think they could have sabotaged this campaign more if they wanted to do it on purpose. This season has really dented my confidence in the people running the club. I had them down as walking on water, but now they have soggy socks for sure.
Fair enough, but I don’t think it’s a disservice to Nath to say that he’s been relentlessly negative about the players and our future prospects for the last 6-7 seasons at least. I think it’s inevitable, given the size of our club and the historical performance of clubs our size in this league, eventually his negativity and prediction of poor performances would eventually be proven right. I don’t think that makes him some kind of enlightened individual, quite the opposite really, given that he’s been pretty much completely misplaced in his negativity for the vast majority of the past several years. All that said, clearly those who predicted doom this season were fair enough in their assessment, but personally, I’d give more weight to those who only recently started questioning the quality of the squad, rather than those who have consistently done so in the face of evidence that contradicts their negativity.
It’s part of Nath’s charm though . Certainly agree we would have a bad season with our name on it some point due to our relative size. But this season has been due to incompetence rather than the law of natural size and averages. He called it right. I mean they actually offered Britos an extension last summer and still have no plans to upgrade defence if we are playing 4 at the back in January. They are incompetent and not learning from mistakes.
Absolutely. And they'd move all the young foreign talent onto Udinese's books before they sold, just like they did at Granada, leaving the new owners with a bunch of journeymen. We are not an attractive proposition if we go down, we'd need to get promoted just to be anywhere near breaking even. And I wouldn't have any confidence in us repeating the promotion trick with a bunch of Udinese reserves, the Championship has moved on since then.
Don't know if any of you follow Udinese's results but if you did you'd have known that a season like this was well overdue. We just got away with it for a while. Anyway, it's just a football team, who really gives a sh*t?
To be somewhat sensible and logical, we've not had a lot of luck this year either. Bad VAR/refs decisions, missing sitters etc. Coupled with a few injuries, not spending wisely on the defense, not buying a decent goalscorer and letting the teams average age of 30+. You can say you predicted it would be this bad, because an average age of 30+ means more injuries for example. Some people did foreshadow doom, but you can't have said it will happen, you can only say in a perfect s**tstorm it could happen. It's annoying that we've created the storm in most part on ourselves.
Thank Christ. I was beginning to wonder if all members felt the same as these idiots. Some of the recent posts on the forum are just hilarious. FFS see the big picture chaps !!! We are in a **** run and likely to be relegated. Poor investment decisions have been made for sure and perhaps poor coach decisions. But we are coming off the back of 4 years in the prem despite being financially outgunned and when we get relegated we will be one of the smaller clubs in the championship. Do you really think that when Pozzo does sell it will be to someone who will invest the funds to improve on our performance of the last 4 years ? Make us Euro contenders ? Bring in silverware ? You are dreaming. We will go back to where we truly belong, lower half championship. Absolutely have a good old moan about team performances, choice of coach, our immediate prospects, and I completely agree with you. However if you want new owners and to get rid of the Johnny Foreigners, expect to drop back to our natural position competing on a level playing field with the likes of L**** and a battle to avoid relegation to Div 1 rather than the champ.
You don’t watch them anyway. Maybe you should get a backbone and support the club rather than post utter ***** in a forum whenever the club loses.
The Pozzo’s have been brilliant, our best owners for absolute years and I think is very unlikely that we will or could do better. I feel fairly confident that if they do stay, we have a reasonable chance of getting back with a couple of years. They must be kicking themselves about the poor recruitment though. They have more invested than us lot, and it will cost them millions.
Are you telling me our experienced businessmen owners signed loan agreements with no 'emergency' break clauses?
I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to terminate loan agreements outside of a transfer window. Whether we have to right to do so then who knows? But Navarro isn’t going to be the answer.
He only said the players don’t have a backbone and/or are past it. Why is that “utter ******”? We’ve been diabolical. Why do you constantly feel the need to stick the boot into critical posters? You’ve been on his case since the summer and he’s been spot on. What does he have to do to “support the club”? Belt up and get on message?
Some of the decisions have been very odd, a bit like when a club appointments the likes of Bryan Robson or Mark Hughes as manager - pretty much all fans across the country know it will be a disaster but the club seem oblivious and do it anyway. They probably tried to recruit better in some cases but it didn't come off, and nearly isn't good enough to keep you up.
I know Wilmot can be recalled in January (and from what I've heard we are likely to be doing that). Not sure about Navarro.
