    You've lost your marbles mate.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together could see the disaster this season was going to be without significant changes (excluding the insanely delusional happy clappers our fan base is riddled with, of course) - if only for the end of season form the horrible lack of depth and youth in the squad - and what did our owners do? Ignore every single glaringly obvious, long standing issue at the club yet again.

Not only that, but when they finally did something right in getting rid of Gracia after that had clearly gone stale, they replaced him with another useless, bargain bin, one tricky pony manager who had already been here once and shown his painfully obvious limitations only a few years before. Laughable.

They have no interest in this "best of the rest" bulls**t they tried to spin our way a couple of years ago, and they clearly have no interest in doing anything but the bare minimum to keep us up season on season to try and reap the benefits of all that Premier League dough, but the arrogance, lack of ambition and sheer stupidity of the summer (and the one before that) means even that is now out the window.

Sooner or later your luck runs out, and that's what the last few seasons have been, luck, particularly last season which was an utter fluke. The bad decisions have been mounting up, now it's hit boiling point and it's finally caught up to them. Time to go.

Well said! They’ve made more mistakes than they’ve made smart decisions. And they’ve wasted a ton of money on the way.

Nath one of your best posts.

I find it very hard to disagree with all of it. They did a fantastic job getting us to the Premiership, and to keep us up for five seasons was nothing to be snarked it. But, as you clearly said, a lack of investment in key
areas has finally dropped the penny so to speak. We look totally out of our depth this season, and if it really is the players not trying, then most of that lot can retire or go elsewhere. We are not going to get any higher than
17th this season* so it looks done. Will they stick around if we are relegated? Will that at least force them to invest?

Correct, I have been saying it all season.

POZZO OUT. Get the **** out of our club.

Wait until Jan when they sign some columbian and loan him to Spain or something, rather than buy a defender.

They are great owners for a championship side, but the club outgrew them pretty much as soon as we got promoted. They could possible lead a club to compete in the league, but not alongside the distraction of buying and trading players willy nilly across Europe which have nothing to do with the club.

No owner is perfect but I find it hard to believe that this summer and autumn more effort seemed to be put in to an unnecessary change to the club badge rather then the rather more pressing needs of the squad. That the change then never happened curiously mirrors the squad where almost nothing changed either.

I do wonder if the Udinese "success" model is partly based on the classic Italian stereotype of bribes, backhanders and general corruption.

I do love this forum. Our best run since GT’s first reign (which I only caught the tail end of), and we lambast the owners. I shudder to think what this forum would be like if we were in our average historical position.

of course, they messed up by not strengthening the attack or defence this season. They got complacent. It was so obvious we needed to and today is another example of this.

but a little perspective. Unless an billionaire comes in they are they best we’ve got. And anyone that can’t see the progress we’ve made across the club since they’ve taken us over is frankly a fool.

I think they’ll go soon. They’ve gone mad trying to get Sarr and now have to spend the rest of the season trying to sell him on. Pedro is only coming so he can get in the Shop window to be a sellable asset in June. I would have confidence in them investing well in the summer for a championship run but I don’t know how financially the EFL would handicap them. How much of the sale of Sarr, GD, Decoure, Capoue, Pereyra, Cucho transfer fees are you allowed to spend. Based on these handicap s, I think they’ll go and concentrate on Udinese.

Bricks and mortar wise, financial stability wise,I would agree, but now that the PL dream has come to an end, it’s likely they will go rather than be pushed by the fans.

Why would they leave now? if ever they will sell it would be better for them if we are in the Prem.

As much as it is hard to disagree that almost every footballing decision made over the last 6 months has been awful, it is not like the world is overflowing with filthy rich, responsible potential owners.

Realistically we would be bought be some chancer and the club will go bust having wildly overspend to get back to the prem after our now inevitable relegation.

But the premier league is gone now, we are going down.they will see out the rest of the season and then sell up. They’re not staying when we go down. There is nothing for them to gain financially from staying.

What would make you happy as a Watford fan?

I say this as a fan who has watched us play in the third tier away from home and lose.

I don’t have rose tinted glasses as to our current position, but I also know in our not so distant past we were a lot worse than now.

  22. Davidmsawyer

    Davidmsawyer Statto Statto Statto

So why did they buy us when we were in the championship? Why would they not try again? It would be a lot cheaper than trying to buy another club.

my point is selling if we go down is the worst time for them to sell. If they wanted to sell they would have done last season. Our value will be so small if we go down.

One of the things that would make me happy would be other Watford fans living in the present reality rather than constantly harking on back to past, darker times as if it somehow excuses the current mess.

What would make me happy in regards to the team would be a squad that had even a semblance of a backbone, and not watching players who have been clearly past it and/or not good enough for years still sullying the shirt in almost 2020.

Okay so what is the present reality NathWFC?

    Really?

the present reality is there are bigger clubs than us much lower down in the leagues. The present reality is we have been punching above our weight. The present reality, in all honesty, would not have a team like us in the top flight.

I believe we could hold our own in the top flight, but the Pozzos have made some bad decisions in signing players.

it is ludicrous to dismiss our past and say it is harking back to the past. We are a small team. We cannot be Like Everton and almost guarantee premier league football every season.

It is possibly to talk about the past and also understand the current reality. This is good news for you as it will make you very happy.

I don’t actually think we lack backbone per se. But we lack quality in important positions, such as an embarrassing inability to score

Actually at the moment we are all collectively losers.

I’m not sure why thinking possibly the Pozzo’s have done more good for this club than bad makes someone a loser.

But maybe you have a point, from now on I will model my life on you so that I can be one of life’s winners.

i get that they’ve made mistakes and worse repeated the same mistakes, But how can they honestly have made more mistakes than smart decisions when the objective truth is that they took us from a low championship team on the brink to a premiership team with 4 Wembley appearances? Even if/when we go down our infrastructure is better than its ever been providing some legacy. Surely they most have done something right in giving an inconsequential small town club one of its most successful periods or are people seriously saying it’s all a fluke.

I get the current situation is dire but what’s not clear is what people wanting the Pozzos out are proposing as a viable alternative.

People should be careful what they wish for and furthermore people should be able to remember our roots and where we have come from without being called derogatory names.

Mistakes need to be learnt from and the club will pay the ultimate price financially by getting relegated. As many have said, our recruitment process worked in the championship, but it fails in the premier league.

    We have had few decent signings during 5 years of top tier football;
Deulofeu, Capoue, Richarlison, Doucoure & Pereyra to name a few.

But for every good signing there is 5 terrible signings; Diamanté, ibarbo, Suarez, amrabat, oulare, gray, zeegelar, Femenia, Okaka, kaboul, success, penaranda, Welbeck, foulquier, masina,
Sema, navarro, Sinclair, dja djedje, Zarate, ndong, wague, pantillimon, Zuniga, kenedy

This is our main problem area. Our premier league recruitment has been poor year in year out. No matter what manager we have, this squad is not good enough

Yeah but we nearly went bust once. And they weren't in charge. That insulates the owners from any criticism. Even when every single fan could see that it was an awful decision.

It looks like we are back to where we started next season in terms of league position. Our financial position remains to be seen in that scenario. We have a better stadium and training ground. We kept the badge. We got to a cup final where we were embaraassed.

I suppose you could say it's been an average period of ownership. If that's allowed round here.
