Missed two VAR pen decisions. Sheff Utd v Burnley. Burnley claimed two pens, both denied, VAR and the studio agreed. So the running total for VAR is now Correct 6 Incorrect 8. Easy to miss some. Nothing else affected.

Interesting tonight. I’m no Liverpool fan, but all of the talk is about how Man City should have had a penalty before the first goal. Yet it hit a Man City players arm to divert it to a Liverpool players arm.

Seems so and also the 2nd looked offside but wasn't.

I gusss this is where the lack of communication comes into play ?

We could be hearing the ref and VAR explaining why the penalty wasn't given due to the ball hitting Sliva first .

People still might not agree but understand the decision..

This is where rugby is so much better. They talk things through, you see the same images. It is logical. Maybe 1/10 times you disagree but you know where they are coming from.

    the FA?

    silence.

shhhhhh... if we don’t say anything no else will.

they are fools that live in an ivory tower trying to protect themselves. Unfortunately for them it’s backfiring as everyone is annoyed with their terrible implementation of VAR.

  5. I guess firstly it hit Silva's arm at point blank range so he had no choice, and it was in a natural position.

Secondly, TAA arm was hanging out unnaturally and he had time to react to move it.

Thirdly, in its interpretation, TAA's handball directly lead to the Liverpool goal. So should that have been disallowed as it would've been had Silva's handball lead to a goal.

Don't get me started on the odd line they drew for the Salah offside!

There have been many, many more controversial examples of the implementation of VAR than the possible Liverpool handball today; the Guendouzi foul yesterday for example.

I am 100% certain this season the league is bent to try and ensure Liverpool win the league. The money to be made worldwide if they do is immense.

What an utter embarrassment the VAR implementation has been. Week after week experienced refs are taking minutes to analyse incidents and still come up with the wrong decisions. The SU goal disallowed - a clear and obvious error ? Citeh not given a pen ? They should be ashamed. VAR hasn't resolved the main issue - they are clearly fooking idiots.

Yep. They were battered and outclassed for 20 mins yesterday. Yet they came out if it 2-0 up having not conceded a pen. Conspiracy.

Atleast it'll keep City from winning the league. When Pep has a full blown meltdown it's going to be hilarious. If Leicester can just win the league again that would be great.

I'd say it's working exactly as intended: to help keep the smaller teams in their place (SU) and to help ensure the most profitable outcome for the Premier league (Liverpool).

The Leicester league win was very costly for the league. VAR will ensure it doesn't happen again.

It used to be refs giving man utd soft pens and "fergie time" in the 90s. VAR is just the modern version of that.

As much as I hate Liverpool, I have to say I enjoyed watching the most expensively assembled squad in the world crumble, and start berating each misplaced pass or wild shot at the first sign of adversity.

Maybe it has something to do with our last two fixtures against them, but I've started to absolutely despise City and more specifically Pep and his arrogance. I tried watching a bit of the Amazon documentary about them but couldn't get past the second episode because he irritated me so much - and that was before the cup final.

Good news all. The VAR chief has confirmed it has a 7/10 so far. That is good to know. It is obviously better than we think.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50380641

or... maybe the 7/10 was given after a VAR check?

I have to agree with your views on City and I definitely feel like that about them, however, they are not Liverpool or Rodgers.

Think I might even be happy to see Super Frank win the league with Chelsea.

“I’m really pleased honestly in how we have started out”. The fool can be immediately discredited on that opening statement. He has no value to add whatsoever.

Absolutely. Both Swarbrick and Riley should be sacked for the inept and arrogant way it's been implemented. It was never about getting the right decisions for them, it was about not undermining their mates and not upsetting bigger clubs.

Something I've always suspected and voiced my concerns over the years about officiating in England. It's rife with prejudices and favouritism. The attitude at the top with their "nothing to see here" attitude goes a long way to prove that.

No one will ever come out and say it, although Clattenburg did admit to officiating the occasion rather than the match Chelsea v Spurs in the year Leicester won the title. He admitted that after he had retired of course and he was the top referee at the time. It goes on all the time, but so many fans want to pretend it doesn't happen.

VAR has inadvertently lifted the lid on the incompetence and denial of officials. It's pretty conclusive now and even their greatest advocates must admit it doesn't look good.

Btw, the VAR total for Watford remains 1 VAR decision for and 5 VAR decisions against.

    FOR
Penalty awarded against Chelsea. Points gained 0

    AGAINST
Brighton non-penalty for handball by Murray. Points lost (debatable)
Everton non-penalty for foul on Deulofeu. Points lost 1
Handball goal scored by Newcastle Points lost 2
Handball goal scored by Spurs Points lost 2
Non-penalty for repeated fouls on Deulofeu against Spurs. Points lost (as above)

With these decisions it has directly cost us 5 points, maybe more had the Brighton penalty been given. The decision we got for us, did not give us anything more than a goal. We did not gain extra points.

Had VAR been used correctly we probably would be at least 5 points better off.

"I'm really pleased, honestly, with how we have started out," said Swarbrick.

Asked how he would rate the introduction of VAR out of 10, Swarbrick, the Premier League referees' lead on VAR, told BBC Sport: "I'd give us around about seven-ish.

"We have more decisions correct with VAR than without it. If the mark now is seven - early days - in two years' time I'm hoping for maybe a eight and a half or nine. Actually I think it could even be 10, because the system has cost Watford 5 points, which it what we all want."

"We are open to evolving with this - it's not a case of we're not budging. We will listen to feedback and where we can improve things, we will do."

Ofcouse you do have to factor in what the other team might have done when fans in general say but for this we might have got x points .

But still frustrating I guess .

    Particularly the Spurs ones .

A reasonable assumption to make. You have to start somewhere.

The UK VAR team seem to have taken it on themselves to review every situation concerning goals, penalties , hand balls whether its clear and obvious or not. A toenail offside in the case of Sheff Utd hardly clear and obvious. 7/10 is actually not very good.

Not really. Two of those VAR decisions were handball goals which directly robbed us of 4 points. No penalties needed converting, just officials doing their jobs correctly.

I think the 7 in 10 quote from Swarbrick is how many they get wrong.

  31. CleyHorn

Well 7/10 would be reasonable at this early stage. Trouble is though that it's actually about 3/10 over the piece. But getting better since Matchday 9.

We've been here before. I still maintain that the Everton decision was debatable. I'm trying to find some objective footage. I might have to pay for the MotD back catalogue. The things I'm prepared to do for you guys. The Dele Alli handball was contentious but the concensus was indeed handball. Which gives us 4 or 5 decisions against, one for and 4 or 5 points lost. There is no way you can, objectively, contend that we would have got something re. Brighton. 1-3 - no points shift.

    OK with that?

  35. And those 4 calls were all within 5 days of each other when they knee-jerk reacted to all the bad press they were getting for all the calls they should've overturned weeks and months before.

I mean, it's laughable how obvious it is that they started so far in the wrong direction and how for they swung to the extreme of the opposite direction for a weekend that made them look even more foolish!!!!!

    So many idiots.
