I believe in miracles, reasons to be optimistic…

Now I'm an eternal optimist, glass half-full type of chap but even I’ve become a little down and angry with results, performances, attitude, selections and substitutions but that’s just reading this forum, let alone the football.

All of this negativity is getting me down. It’s all gloom & doom or poisonous vitriol aimed at the owners, the head coach or other forum members. Lighten up people!

It’s time to counter all the negativity and now is the moment for some positivity. I challenge you to come up with something, anything, any reason however small to be positive about our chances of staying up, not the same old sack the coach or owners etc.

Maybe it’s a miracle escape that another team has made from a worse position than us, maybe its players coming back from injury maybe hoping for our luck to change, get a VAR decision in our favour when it matters.

I witnessed Luther’s brace in the league cup vs Man Utd all those years ago, I was there when we beat Southampton 7-1, I never gave up hope before the Deeney moment against Leicester and when we were 2-0 at Wembley.

Come on I challenge you, park the dark thoughts and think positive…

Some positivity is that our opponents might score own goals. We just need a few freak instances like poor old Stan van den Buys, and hopefully our defence can keep firm and only let in two.

Three "NORMALLY" very winnable games in November, if we can pick up six points from these games, I think we will have a decent chance of surviving, and lets hope it will be nine points

Sometimes you just have to call it like it is. When there's nothing to be positive about, that's the way it is. If we win at Norwich, then I can see a little bit of hope, but lose that, then it really is pretty much all over.

To stay up, even by the slimmest of margins, you'd have to win around 9 or 10 games at least. Let's be optimistic and say 36 points will be enough this season. That would mean 10 wins plus 1 draw. We have 27 matches remaining. consider how tough we find playing the top 6, especially away from home and you can add Leicester to this list of difficult fixtures this season.

I'd say Liverpool (h & a), Man City (h ), Arsenal (a ), Leicester (a ), Chelsea ( a) are unlikely to yield any points at all. I think most people would agree with that. I'd even give us a chance against United (h & a) to get a point, and Spurs (h ) to get something from that......potentially.

But if we consider those 6 games I've listed as certain defeats, then we're only looking at 21 games where we potentially have a chance of getting a positive result, which is including games at Old Trafford, or United, Spurs, Leicester at home, West Ham away all are extremely difficult games.

We'd have to win 10 out of 21......of course not impossible, but margins for error are very slim now. This is why it HAS to start on Friday. Win that, then it becomes 9 in 20 and so on. This is the only way we can look at things right now.

Wins bring confidence and optimism. Only the players on the pitch can do that, and until they start winning, no one can really be optimistic with any degree of logic.

 

On the other hand, my 10 year old son says he doesn't want to take his Watford lunch box to school anymore, saying "I wouldn't mind if we weren't right at the bottom or if we had actually won a game". It's easy to shrug it off as character building when you're an adult, but when you're a kid and you see your team repeatedly lose and rarely score a goal, it has a negative effect

What have they done?

 

Only back in training yesterday so can't see that they will be reday to play 4 days later at Norwich though....

 

Liverpool away is for the only game we are virtually guaranteed nothing. The rest, tough as they are, are games where clearly we will not be favourites but there is a chance, even Man City last season at home we only lost 2-1. I know they should have won more comfortably, much like Chelsea on Saturday, but if you stay in games like those then you never know
Friday is massive as most people have said and for me we have to win. We can't bank on who might come in during January as it may be too late so we need to make sure we are in the pack and to do this we obviously need to win some games starting with Norwich. They have a lot on injuries at the back and if we press like we did at times vs Chelsea I think we should win and maybe give us some confidence

Deulofeu is due a world class performance, should be coming against Norwich if I've calculated correctly.

Looking further forward, we look like we are in a better position than the likes of Sunderland were, so we shouldn't necessarily drop down twice although it is possible.

Nothing overly positive about this season other than we were previously unlucky under Javi, so clearly know how to create some chances. But he's gone and we are now playing for 30 nil nil draws.

It's important that we win on Friday. If we don't it's not necessarily the end of the world. But it might be. A personal opinion. Nothing to do with 'we all know' stuff ...

I'm done with your blind platitudes around what it is to be a supporter of a middling football club like ours. We all know the territory. So what is the point of you consistently posting the blindingly obvious like it's a minute of a meeting of WFC inc. or something, or a boorish precis of this thread or another as opposed to the faintest chance of offering something original? What exactly is 'the old Watford'? And what exactly is the point of you?

And what have the Pozzos done for us over the last two/seven years? Well, a damn sight more than you.

 

I would never wish failure upon us but from a personal perspective I genuinely would enjoy being in the championship next season purely for the away days. Luton, QPR, Charlton, Brentford, Barnsley, Bristol City, Birmingham, Fulham and maybe Wycombe all away. I go to football to be entertained and follow my team regardless of what division they are in so all those trips would be very enjoyable.

Furthermore I might get the chance to see Watford attempt to enter the opposition half and maybe have an attempt on goal every once in a while. Sorry but parking the bus scraping 0-0 draws at home doesn’t quite get the blood pumping for me.

 

What's more, in the Championship, you can be winless after 12 games, but still, realistically, put together a run of 3 on the spin and then eye up a push for the playoffs.
