To be fair, a lot of fans would have taken relegation and a lovely day out in the FA Cup Final. Even though it was mostly overcast.

You're obviously being misled by your pal Lineker, Filbert. It's just a little blip.

Yes, why risk going for a point when you can settle for a narrow loss? Sums up Florrie perfectly.

I said it was a narrow loss not settling for a narrow loss. As far as I know no one on this forum has asked QSF the logic of the substitution. I doubt he would say he was settling for a narrow loss. As it turned out we kept the same shape scored a goal and nearly made it 2-2 at the end, with this so called negative substitution.

    PS. I am not QSF's son. ;)

Chalobah is finished and should retire.
QSF will be gone before Xmas.
Will we be down before the snow falls outside my door? I'm at 1,770m.
Chelsea could have scored at will. Awful defending for the first goal. Park football from Watford.
I am due to be at the Southampton game, we could well adrift by then.
    Oh well, such is life..

This is all bang on the money.

At one of Adam Leventhal / Lionel Birnie's TFTV Palace Theatre events, the noble and modest Ray Lewington put it best.

Ray answered a question about another guy on the stage (Sean Dyche?) by saying that, "Well, I knew he would do well because he CAN ACTUALLY COACH (my caps). You'd be surprised how many people working in football who have all the badges cannot actually coach. They don't have the talent for it. First and foremost he is a good coach."

Hilarious! I believe what I suggested in the first instance was that comments on here around Quique's perceived inability as a coach were being made by amateurs. It was a throw-away line picked up and over ever since by all and sundry. I never suggested at all that some coaches aren't better than others. However, seeing as Quique has won the UEFA Cup (or whatever it's called now) and kept us in the top flight with ease in 2015-16 then he would appear to have proven his credentials (badges). He's also the one who sees all the players at training every week so I'd suggest he's more up on the detail than us lot. I understand the anger that his third sub. on Saturday was a like-for-like rb when 'chasing the game' though as long as others will accept that the other major element in the booing episode was 'because Kiko'.

Is there another field in which you think amateurs might know better than professionals? How about medicine? Like to be treated by a doctor who hadn't attended medical school and got their medical degree (badge)? Prefer a 'quack'? Or how about the law? Your own field I believe. I presume you have a law degree (badge). Like to be told by a badgeless amateur (like me) that I know more about the law?

Anyway, enough of that. Quique is a coach who concentrates on the defensive aspect of the game. We knew this before his arrival and we certainly know it now. Did we really expect his leopard to change its spots? So, with all and sundry crying out for the defence to be sorted Quique does so by playing three CBs. This policy has worked rather well. Obviously however, playing three CBs leaves only seven rather than eight other outfield players and whichever way you dice it that is bound to have a detrimental effect on attacking ability.

The most pertinent comments on this thread for me concern 'transition'. We do seem to ponce about with the ball on the hw line while the opposition get their ducks in a row. I'd suggest 'playing like Wolves'. Look at the way Jota plays. I'd suggest that all of Pereyra, Del Boy and Sarr could play that way if encouraged.

n.b. All comments in the above two paras made by a rank amateur. Me.

If we hadn't been gifted a goal by VAR, the match would probably have petered out at 2-0

In terms of the fields you talk about you seem happy historically to post way about the financial crisis or tax avoidance despite not having a CFA/ACA/ATT or understanding anything about derivative risk or corporate tax. Nobody makes the argument you aren’t allowed an opinion because you don’t have a qualification. Anyone who did that would be ludicrous in my view. Your posts are valid.

Likewise a person watching football for decades is entitled to have a view about Flores shortcomings irrespective of his distant achievements or coaching badges.

With regard to your second point I remember the second half of Flores first season with great dismay when Ighalo went cold. Losing at home to Sunderland he responds by bringing on Paredes for Nyom (or Cathcart at right back). An awful manager. I was dismayed when he was re-appointed by being sacked. Such a lazy, lazy, incompetent appointment by Pozzo and doomed to failure. The day cannot come soon enough when he is sacked again in my (non badge) view.

Everyone can comment about anything they like. Otherwise this forum wouldn't exist. However, if I wanted advice on investment or how to avoid paying tax I'd seek the opinion of a professional financial advisor rather than a 'bloke in the pub'. And if I felt unwell I'd go to my GP rather than rely on advice from another 'bloke in the pub' who'd read up about a few symptoms on the net.

Anyway again, my initial 'badge' post was simply a throw-away line. I'm truly amazed at the attention it's received and how many seem to have taken it personally.

You're quite right about the 'Iggy going off the boil' in 2016 thing and that Quique didn't look so good once that happened. I neglected to include that point in my previous post.

If you were one of the ones who pointed out Quique's shortcomings at the time of his re-appointment (there were quite a few that did) then well done. You are now entitled to say "I told you so". But don't expect him to change the writing on his own tin anytime soon.

Tell him from us his comments are spot on. And perhaps maybe next time choose Worcester Sauce flavour.

Btw, those Sprout ones are rancid.

Last season we conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game. Since Quique has come in and 'sorted out the defence' we have let in 2.4 per game

I don't like to remove games just to help my point but I do feel one game makes your stats look a little off. City aside we've conceded 7 in 6 at an average of 1.16 per game. Unfortunately we've only scored 4!

I take your point, but, as you say, you can't just overlook certain games to make the stats read better. It would be interesting to see our shots per game figures for this season under Javi and Quique.

Quique's is probably better as we had 472 shots on goals against Arsenal!

I think it is too late for any coach to save us from relegation.
QSF is a defensive coach, we all knew that and he will not change. Kiko for Janmaat showed all, including sky sports viewers, that he is not up to it.
God knows what happened to Javi and pre-season or why it was allowed to happen. All odd, but many fans were concern for season 19/20 and our ability to survive.
Has Chalobah announced his retirement yet? He is finished.

That's because he hadn't had time to instill his ideas into the squad by then. Now we're seeing the real thing.

The amount of times success has changed the game when coming on as sub in his entire watford career is one.

I didn't boo at that point purely because not one of the hapless terds on the bench had a hope in hell of putting in a match winning performance.

Anyone who thinks success is ever going to be our saviour hasn't been paying attention these past few years. Or is clinically insane.
