We have a lot of clueless and overly entitled fans at Watford. This season has been a harsh reminder as to how difficult Premier League football is for clubs outside of the elite. Over the past 4 years I've found the lack of appreciation shown to Watford managers and players astonishing. Would the morons who constantly criticised the likes of Mazzarri and Ighalo like to step forward and repeat some of the tripe thrown out over the past few seasons?

Surviving effortlessly at this level for 4 years was a miracle. We are finally being shown the reality of this division, something many of you have been oblivious to since promotion in 2015.

    Mazzarri was clueless.

He survived because Hull, Sunderland and Boro were three of the worst teams the league has seen in a long time.

In fact, I think Mazzarri is on the edge of losing his latest job too.

'He' survived because he was able to get this team to 40 points after 32 games, winning matches when it mattered and getting through the worst injury crisis we've had in modern times.

Maybe not the right fit at Watford but certainly he was not clueless.

The team is currently performing well below the sum of its parts. Good managers find ways to get teams performing as more than the sum of their parts.

The only manager who's got anything 'extra' out of this squad since we've been in this division was Javi before last season's run in. Flores will never get a side in this division to perform anywhere near its potential. He doesn't have the will to even try.

Entitlement? I think we're entitled to much better than the dogshit we're currently being served.

Wally was a chain smoking inept manager who just about kept us up. Lets not forget the two goal keepers on the bench comedy vs Citee last game of his tenure.

He did alright overall, Got a great win over Manure and won the games we had to win to survive, Everton H and WBA H kept us up. He did his job, and I respect him for that, but the language barrier was a massive problem.

We are entitled to some extent too. We pay good money to turn up and have to see bland ineffective football. We deserve better as fans, we cannot help the injuries or the aging squad, but most of this should of been addressed by now. Five years in, almost the same back line is inexusable.

Showing some discontent yesterday at QSF was merrited. We are getting frustrated, and although I do not condone booing, in some places it's a way of letting people know that maybe things have to change.

Listening to Ben Foster, Derek and Emma last night made that clear. Derek looked dejected, Emma asked some good questions and Ben was pretty honest. His final "keep the faith" message is fine, but he knows as much as anyone the next three games are season defining.

So to answer the question, no. I wished for a battling performance werk in week out amongst the english elite. I got that more or less for four years. Now, the age and disasterous fitness of the players had not been addressed, We are at present going backwards and I can only point the blame at higher management.

No it's not - a team with crap to non-existent centre forwards, combined with woeful, error and injury-prone CBs, is always going to struggle.

I'm perfectly aware of the limitations of our present squad, and I'm still of the opinion that Flores' approach to the game is minimising the effectiveness of what's available.

A sense of entitlement is a funny thing when it comes to football. When we buy our tickets we are entitled to nothing bar admission to watch the game. That's it. There's no guarantee of seeing our team win, there's no guarantee of entertainment. There's nothing that insures us against the possibility of a season of terrible, turgid football. We don't 'deserve' anything – well, not any more than any other set of supporters at any other club, anyway.

However, we can justifiably expect to see effort, application, desire. But the problem is, a hard-working side that doesn't produce results doesn't get the credit for the effort and application because as supporters we then turn our attention to the lack of quality and competence. Two months ago, before Sanchez Flores arrived, I saw a couple of comments along the lines that it would be better to watch us at least look a bit more secure at the back and keep ourselves in with a chance of winning games. That is exactly what we did against Sheffield United and Bournemouth and both games were pretty bereft of entertainment in the sense of pretty, flowing football.

Basically, we want it all. Yet when we stayed up four seasons in a row there was a sense that it was not enough.

It's why certain posters and their hyperbolic response to poor results and poor performances now have lost relevance and impact because many of those same posters were using the same language to complain about how dreadful everyone and everything was when the team was surviving a relegation scrap with relative comfort.

In a sense I can see what the OP is driving at. At times I've seen complaints that bumping about in the middle of the Premier League like Bolton or Stoke or Wigan before us was boring and pointless. I've seen comments criticising individual players. Well, we've got a heck of a scrap on our hands now – the mathematics are stacked heavily against us and every game is vital to our chances of survival. And if we don't make it, well, at least many of the players we're moaning about now will be gone next August and we can wheel in the next lot.

Indeed. It wasn't enough for the owners, who have spent two years bleating about being the 'best of the rest'.

In fact, I'm pretty sure they said, 'just about staying up is not enough for us'.

But it's the fans' entitlement and reactions to another defeat which is the problem.

Sure, but do we, as fans, listen to what the owner and chief executive say and think: "Well, they promised me something so I am now entitled to it."

I'm not sure the game has ever worked like that. It's much more like investment – the value of your stock can go down as well as up.

A season like this has been an ever-present possibility since coming up in 2015.

But yeah, it feels like the club as a whole started to take Premier League status for granted – starting with Duxbury's email that came out the morning after the cup final, in which he tried to put a positive spin on things by suggesting that we had the world precisely where we wanted them and that a 6-0 drubbing in front of a global audience was all just part of the longer-term plan for global domination.

I'd just question whether being so angry about things we cannot influence, let alone control, is just a waste of energy.

I’d agree that is a complete waste of time and energy. But if football fans are not passionate then the game is up. Do any football fans behave rationally? It’s theatre. Happiness and anger of supporters is part of the show.

Didn’t ever think we’d struggle to beat Huddersfield & Fulham’s total but with QSF in charge it’s possible.

Got to worry about getting more points than Derby’s record first!

This season is so scarily bad when you start comparing and contrasting to English football history.

The good news is we're getting a little better week by week. We got ourselves into this position because of complacency, in transfers, in coaching, in fitness and in attitude throughout the club

The FA cup, the talk of Europe and the belief that we are an established premier league side all distracted from the reality that those around us, including the teams being promoted, were improving, while we became stagnant. The defence was a problem 3 years ago, we had an ageing left back, ageing and pace less centre backs and an injury prone squad.

Investment in the squad has been poor for 3 years. We all know what Deeney brings the squad but he is restricted at this level, yet there hasn't been any vision to replace him with anything more than 18 year old prospects.

The transfer policy seems to be to buy as many youngsters that can be loaned out to lower foreign leagues for a tidy income fee.

This year is going to be long and slow and probably a kick up the arse that those at the top needed.

I don’t think we are getting better. I agree the year will be long but it will end in relegation which will destroy the model.

We're going down because every other team strengthened the areas they were weakest in and they did so properly. We added a CB and striker for the grand total of £6m.

Poor recruitment is ******* us over. The problems do not lie just with a manager. Runs far deeper than that. Can't keep buying young players for cheap and hoping they fulfil their potential either. We need players ready to hit the ground running.

We’ve got the oldest squad in the league.

If anything highlights out shockingly bad youth recruitment, it’s that.

Walt has a great CV and clearly isn’t clueless.

He is probably more suited to Italy, but he was also a strict disciplinarian in a squad that didn’t give a **** and has a terrible injury record.

Quique’s decision making makes Mazzarri look like Guardiola.

Manager/coach has no influence over transfers. We have got away with trying to do things on the cheap and chickens now coming home to roost. Having said that had we won against Brighton think we wouldn't be having these conversations, confidence the main issue stemming from our awful run at the end of last season, who can forget awful home games against Southampton, Wolves and Arsenal at end of last season and of course the battering in the Cup Final.

Good effort, should've saved it for when we lose to Norwich though for maximum impact.
