Watford FC - Social Media Propaganda Campaign

Haven't started a thread for a while, but need to get this off my chest.

Anyone getting fed up with the increasing propaganda the club's social media channels are spouting now? I understand we're in a rut and you can't be too negative otherwise those South American fans we're so desperate to reach out to won't follow us, but a dose of realism sometimes wouldn't go amiss. It feels like it's getting worse and worse. Some of it was quite funny at first, but some things the club post on Twitter seem to have come back to bite us recently and, in my opinion, made the club look a bit silly.

What's the latest now, Pedro and a returning TD to be our saviours is it? Sigh.

Maybe I'm just out of touch.

I think the club is massively overhyping Pedro in general, so no arguments there.

But otherwise the social media stuff is completely in keeping with how that sort of thing is done and is harmless. They've gone from just posting content without comment to now having a 'voice' on Twitter and elsewhere. Personally I think it's alright and hope they stick with it. I don't think the club looks silly because of something on social media - it looks silly because it's bottom of the league after 10 games with no wins.

True to some extent UEA, but I find the videos on the training ground for example, or videos of Sarr trying to show him fitting in etc.. a bit meh in so far as they are trying to project something that doesn't seem real to me. Maybe I am totally wrong here, it just feels weird though. Not particularly saying it's harmful' either, just a bit nauseating at times.

Guess that is the danger of social media for the clubs.

They big themselves up then the on pitch action lets that hype down and other fans seize on it .

Maybe some wlll say it's better to be heard saying something that not at all ?

The Pedro stuff wlll mean nothing when Flores doesn't play him ..

Like with Sarr when you had fans demanding "Announce Sarr" - probably the same ones saying what a waste of money.

There's obviously demand for that sort of content from somewhere though? I don't tend to watch many of the videos. Don't have the time and don't particularly care what goes on at the training ground or whatever. I have a suspicion younger fans expect that sort of insight though and see it as part and parcel of the whole fan experience (blurgh…) now.

    Yes horrible.
Can't wait for the official launch of the new badge.
Do you think they'll do one of those exciting video clip build-ups to announce it like they did with Sarr and Welbeck. TBF the badge will have about the same impact on the pitch as those 2 have.

All clubs do it. To be anything other than positive might put people off going and it's all about money.

Plus some people are easily swayed and a bit of positive spin or a player looking upbeat can convince some that that bunch of spineless tools will wake up tomorrow and play like world beaters.

So Watford are pretending that everything is fine. Social media is all about pretending to be something you're not. That's the whole point of it, isn't it?

It’s the new world, and to be honest if the club didn’t do it they’d get slated for being outdated and out of touch. Anyone who doesn’t like it could always do what I do - avoid pretty much all forms of social media. But then I am outdated and out of touch.

Thankfully, I don't do Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Linked In etc - or any of the other cr@p that people dedicate so much of their lives to obsessing over - so I can't comment. But it sounds awful

It’s not just social media, read anything the club publishes - website, programmes - and it’s all carefully engineered waffle. I think this is what some people call progress, as football clubs become even more like big corporates, who barely say anything interesting at all to their various stakeholders.

I really enjoyed reading Kevin Affleck’s work at the watford observer and when he set up WD sport. Now his output is written for the club not about it, it’s practically not worth reading at all it’s so saccharine-sweet.

I think it's the way every club does things now. I can see why they're trying to keep things as positive as they can at the moment. Not sure why people get so annoyed with it, I actually think it's quite good and nowhere near as cringy as other clubs. It's a bit of a thankless task at the moment as every Twitter post is greeted with a torrent of abuse!

95% of people who follow social media are the sort of people who lap this sort of zany "banter" up.

The other 5% are jaded old farts who should know better.

I’m just thankful that seemingly the person running the social media channels last season has quietly been removed.

I agree. Some of the facts I've seen on Facebook support this view.

You know when youve arrived when your clubs Facebook page is full of posts from Africa and Asia saying stuff like "Watford is bad team" "Watford is down with Championship" or "i can play Watford- 15 years defender. call me"

    oops.. racist!

Leicester had a good three years of only Algerians responding to social media posts because of Mahrez (who was born in France and probably could have been a World Cup winner if he’d had some patience).

I’ve heard that he models himself on Hameur Bouazza so perhaps that influenced his decision.

Bit like when we had Layun and only Mexican's seemed to support Watford. When he didn't play it seemed like the club was the scum of the earth to them.
