Didn't say that. Performance wise I agree with the majority, it's been utter trash, but the result it's self isn't as bad as first seems.

It was a start for sure. If we don’t beat Bournemouth though with Chelsea to come we will surely be at the point where we need to start stringing wins together after that. We have a favourable run up to new year from memory so we must make it count and 0-0 at home will not longer be enough.

I think we will just have to grind out points here and there. Aim to equal what ever we got in the same fixture last year. (that would get us to 45 points). If we can reverse a few results - like Bournemouth - maybe we will do better. Too early to lose all hope.

I didn't misread anything. My point was that anybody who even lets the words 'mathematically confirmed' cross their lips right now for whatever reason should perhaps go into hibernation until there are some new leaves on the trees in the spring.

Don't think anyone has "lost all hope".
But we are almost a quarter of the way through the season and haven't won a match yet.
It would need more than to "grind out points here and there" to get to 45 points. 41 points from 29 games so something like W11 D8 L10 would be required ie winning more than we lose, including the games against the top 6.
More realistic would be to hit say 36 points, another 32, which might be enough. That would take something like W9 D5 L15 which wouldn't be impossible but tough given 2 games vs Liverpool, 1 vs Citeh, 2 vs Chelsea etc. However we need those 9 wins at least and we've not won for some time. It's all %s of course, but the survival % drops if we don't make Saturday one of those 9 wins ........no matter how wonderful we look at the back....

But to get to 45 points we would need to get exactly the same result in the remaining games this year as we did last. I think that is possible if we can get our confidence back.

Yes and had our form been even over last year and the start of this that that would look achieveable. You'd get very good odds for us to win more than we lose between now and the end of the season given our form over the last 9 months or so.

Hard to disagree - but if we are going to survive we have to improve on the last six months results. If we don't we are doomed. The scale of the hill to climb though is still only a hill the size of last year's form. We are not needing to get "top six" results - yet.
All that may change at the weekend of course.

I shudder to think what would happen on this forum if we lost 9-0 at home to a team that wasn’t Liverpool or Man City.

  15. 3 points from 17th. Chipping away.

Our one hope is we have a could have a big uptick in form.

We can "easily" survive, we need to make up 4 points (5 give our bad GD) over 28 games. West Ham survived needing to claw back 10 point with just 8 games left.

It really is in our hands.

We have cut out the defences lapses - which were crippling us. I know some on here don't like the defensive formation now , but basically any team were just turning up and cutting us to shreds before then.

But can we actually start scoring? We need to up our game. We won't be playing ultra attacking, but that for me is not the problem (as we would just let goals in too). We just need to be average at scoring. This is the worry - we are lower then average, big time. I thought Deeney was done - but actually, just to get a few goals from him his fitness could be vital for us.

I think about 25% of our bad finishing is just bad luck, and 75% as we are crap at finishing. It will be really tight for us to stay up, unless a few of our supposedly better players get back to what we remember.

  17. I said it before, I think there are at least three teams worse than us.

We are chipping away and other teams aren't winning. We just have to get ourselves on an even footing with 17th and I think we'll kick on with more confidence.

Newcastle didn't deserve the draw today but will have to accept that.

I do think getting Troy back will actually galvanise the squad as well.

Watched Norwich vs Utd - Norwich were really poor. Their players continue to be dropping like flies with injuries and cramp and Pukki seems to have gone off his Ighalo-esque purple patch.

I'd be surprised and disappointed if we don't eventually overtake them at least.

Just checking in. Been a while for me. Big 3 points against Everton on Sat.. Back to back home wins now. Disgraceful pen decision though. Everyone inside the stadium was dumbfounded. At the time i didn't know what was going on because nobody appealed for a pen. It was a coming together. I really hate VAR despite it awarding us a dodgy decision. It's ruining the game and enjoyment.

There is nothing wrong with VAR, it is just the idiots who are running it that are spoiling it. Isn't it strange that up until last week not one penalty decision by the on field ref had been overturned by VAR, now this week there were 3 or 4 overturned.

Could it be something has been said about interpretation, sadly too late for us at WFC, but hopefully it might just be that VAR is beginning to be used properly?

IMO for VAR to work the guys adjudicating the system must be told to stick to the LETTER of the FOOTBALL LAWS, and not use their discretion

EG: Shirt pulling and pushing on the outfield is nearly always penalised, but in the box many officials seem to show more leniency, THAT SORT OF THING HAS TO STOP!!!

The laws are the laws no matter where they are broken on the field of play.

Bloke treads on another bloke's ankle it's a pen. There doesn't have to be intent. Where does it say anything in the laws of the game about a 'coming together'. As far as I'm aware a 'coming together' is something to aspire to if rarely achieved.

Terrible result for us. Had they lost they would have been only 4 points above us and only one win in the last 9 games after beating us on the opening day. This gave them 3 points and a confidence boost. We need to keep as many of these smaller teams in range as possible.

  27. Just heard on the radio should be back in contention for Norwich.

The fact that we are only 4 points of 4th from bottom without even winning a game tells you all you need to know about the quality of the teams around us, Southampton are away to Man City tomorrow, Newcastle away at West Ham, if we could pick up a point against Chelsea we could be going to Norwich 3 points off 17th which is mad considering how bad we have been.

If we can't pick up at least six points from our next four matches I fear the title of this thread might just come true
