    I truly, truly hate Nadal.

There's no denying that overall he is one of the best players ever, but his defensive style absolutely bores me to tears and his constant gamesmanship is a disgrace. It amazes me how many people fail (or refuse) to see it and how often is goes ignored.

If he takes over Federer's record, which he likely will, it'll be a sad day. Both because Roger is clearly the more complete and talented player, but also because Nadal's total of slams is made up SO much by one tournament and surface.

I agree with a lot of what you say Nath,to an extent but you could argue that RF has only won one major on clay whilst RN has five on acrylic. I would never say Nadal is defensive and technically he's a better volleyer than Federer.
His time delays etc are overlooked as I've said before and the same goes for Djokovic. I've met him and he is absolutely charming.
Epic final as he wins the 'Battle of Bad Hair' in five sets. What a pity so few could see it on Amazon.
Big mistake from Sky,being outbid for the tennis.

But that's only because of Nadal's clay dominance. One player has stood in the way of Federer (and Djokovic) winning a lot more on that surface.

In regards to Nadal being defensive I can't understand how anyone could disagree with that. His game is based on getting around the court and staying in points until his opponent misses or he sees an opportunity to pounce. Even Medvedev hit 13 more winners than him last night. It's incredibly effective and it clearly works, but for me it's a boring watch.

I agree it has helped Nadal being so dominate on one surface - some might say he needs another Australian Open/Wimbledon to be called the greatest ever all around?

He was warned for slow play early on - wonder if that played on his mind.

Nice for someone outside the big 3 to give one of them a real fight in a final though.

It is always an interesting debate as to who is the best ever.
As before I would make a case for Laver, who wasn't allowed to compete for five years due to turning pro.
If he had,he would almost certainly won at least a dozen more majors.

Tricky one isn't it ? Nadal, Fed and Joka have all had to compete against 2 of the best ever. Just think how many titles any of those 3 would have won had the other 2 not been around.

    Harpenden 3 Hoddesdon 6.
10am start one of our players withdrew injured at 8.40am. The only replacement we could raise was Ellen, who's 11.
We went with the four of us and Yvonne, our captain or non playing captain on this occasion!
Our two [airs lost seven games in twelve sets. Harpenden were very gracious apart from their captain who was very frosty.
Apparently she is always like that.
One of the team played in the police championships in Norfolk during the week.
She played a girl/lady from Gosling who cheated her blind on five points in the championship tie break and in the other sets too.
Sush is the fairest player you could meet and her opponent and her twin have a dreadful reputation for this kind of behaviour.
What is the point of playing?

Tsitsipas has to retire, experiencing 'lung' problems in the extreme heat.
Off to play Ealing tomorrow in the 40s National Club semi final. I shall be dressed as Professor Marcus from (the original) 'Ladykillers'.

Sush got one in the eye, literally from Jane Walker*. Quite an impressive array of staff came onto court, including one young man with a defib!
We await the winners of Harpenden and Berkhampstead in the final,at Hoddesdon October 12.
    * All of the Northwood team are W Herts players foremost.
Di Minaur wins in China, defeating Mannarino.

Good straight sets win against the World Number 13 and US open semi finalists for Andy Murray who really does seem to be building back to fitness and form well.

Plays Cam Norrie next in an all British clash.

He has the advantage in that most players are now exhausted having played for nine months and he is fresh.

I was thinking the same thing just now.
I think he can return to the top twenty but I'd be amazed if he made another major final.

Main problem is he will be low ranked so face a top player potentially in the first couple of rounds .

Sounds like he getting that firey temperament back .

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/49975167

Probably partly frustrated he didn't close out the match twice .

  30. I Blame Pozzo

He will have beaten higher ranked players in early rounds on his rise up the rankings but doing it aged nearly 33,with a new hip,is another matter.
    You never lose the fire.
Fognini is always combustable but very entertaining.
Murray has always moaned and groaned on court so it's hardly a surprise that they clashed.
Tsitsipas defeats Felix Augur Aliassime in two tie breaks, for the first time.
