Just a quick update on our young Sierra Leonian (is that the correct spelling?) Umaru Bangura, who finally seems to have settled in the Norwegian first division team Honefoss. Well, at least he has started their last 6 matches and played the full 90 minutes in most of them. He's not yet 20 years old so maybe, just maybe, he can still develope into something.

And how good is Norwegian football compared to English I hear you say? Well, we'll find out tomorrow won't we, when Rosenborg go to Stamford Bridge ;)

Players from Norweyan football have an excellent track record of transfering to the English game. I can only assume that their league is similarly physical and combatative.

The Norwegian league is completely devoid of technical football and a big place for HOOF (only joking). Norwegian players have a far better track record in England than Danish players. I think it must be because there is greater emphasis on the physical side in Norway.

I guess it's not unfair to call the Rosenborg draw at Stamford Bridge "lucky" :]] The amazing thing is that Rosenborg are only 5th in the Norwegian league.

I think the most important things players learn in Norway are the physical and mental aspect of the game. That's what managers in England always say - there's no BS with Norwegian players and they are physically strong. But, as Krisvad says there's a lot of hoofing going on here and little technical training. In fact, I think that's why Umaru Bangura has struggled to settle here, because the reports I've read says that he is extremely talented technically. He tries to dribble all the time and tries killer passes.

Letting Umaru grow up in Norwegian football is by no means a bad decision. What would you say the level of Addecco Ligaen is compared to English terms? League 1 or 2?

Difficult to say because of the vast difference in style, pace and tactics. But I guess most of the teams in that league would survive in League One.

So how long until we get him back because it looks like he is still on loan there if thats what "Innleid fra Watford" means. I presume if hes not back now he must be coming back next season. Oh and hes a right midfielder.

He's not a Watford player anymore. He was linked with a £1.5m move from Honefoss earlier this year.

Huzzah! Does that mean my prophecy 3yrs ago that he'd never ever play a game for Watford can now be upheld as evidence of my all knowing abilities? :]]

If he is still ours and he shows any trace of talent you will see him on the transfer list the moment he is eligable to play over here.

11 years on. From The Guardian:

The fallout from Umaru Bangura’s missed penalty in injury-time of Sierra Leone’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Liberia spilled over into violence after the FC Zurich midfielder’s home was pelted with stones by angry fans. “It was one of the worst days of my life,” Bangura told the BBC while holed up in his bedroom. “I can’t even go outside because I didn’t expect this kind of hostility towards me.” There were also reports that four Red Cross staff were injured after coming under attack following the final whistle in Freetown as they attempted to protect Bangura after his penalty was saved by the 18-year-old Liberian goalkeeper Ashley Williams. “Hooliganism is becoming unprecedented,” said the sports minister, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh. “I think measures should be put in place to combat it.”

Incidentally, watching Jadon Sancho last night reminded me of Harry Forrester, the last major youth talent we had who was poached by another club, whose career didn't quite follow the same path. He now plays for Orange County, a Californian team in the USL Championship, a tier below MLS. He previously played for two clubs in Iran after leaving Rangers.

You'll need to ask our manager, Stephen Constantine.

Truly our glory days. Bangura the wonder kid, Stephen Constantine as the next great manager, and I’m sure I remember us being repeatedly linked with an Icelandic defender who was supposed to be the next big thing and had the forum extremely excited.

For those of you that are interested our actual Bangura is now a warehouse manger and recently got engaged, proposing whilst on the warehouse floor. Romantic! I found this out on LinkedIn of all places. I believe he is playing amateur non league football now.

Good for him but shame about his career. Breaking into a champ side at 17 he seemed to have a really good career ahead of him.
