Yes agreed but the football pundits excused this as he could run forwards with a ball at his feet which was seen as far more important for a future CD.

Their squad doesn't make any sense does it? Some brilliant players across the world but doesn't select them. Aguero, Di Maria, Higuain, Banega, Otamendi, Icardi off the top of my head. Know there are more though - is that because it's only a friendly?

    Cathcart excellent again last night.

Prodl an unused sub for Austria's two games.

Another great performance from Cathcart in the green shirt last night, this time against Germany.

Hopefully his dip in form is either related to the system being used by Gracia or worst case scenario his playing partner (who will hopefully be dropped in that case)

I didn’t see this game, so I’m not entirely sure if you’re being sarcastic or not. If not, what was good about his performance?

    I'm not being sarcastic.

Looked more than comfortable, alongside Jonny Evans, at everything the German's threw at the NI back 4. Nothing he could do about the first goal and the second goal was a result of NI going for the equaliser in the last minute.

He looked comfortable on the ball too.

Given he looked comfortable most of last season, this draws me to even further believe it’s playing alongside Dawson that is causing his downturn in performances.

Is there a full list of which first teamers are away and what potential matches they may have?

Good job the South American qualifiers are off otherwise Sierralta would have been called up too I suspect.

Happy for Gray and Wilmot to go on international duty, but I would pull the Covid card on the others as it could have a detrimental effect on our current team harmony and quite possibly cost us promotion.

Plenty of other teams are talking of not letting players go on international duty on this occasion so why not us.

Our former youth GK Nathan Gartside has been called up for NI too. Had a battle with illness while at Watford if I recall correctly.

Kabasele made the 30 man shortlist for Belgium, not bad for a Championship player.

Basically every club has a bubble so that the players and staff can all mix pretty much freely with each other and have little chance of spreading Covid.

However, if players go off on international duty they are stepping outside that bubble and meeting up with players from umpteen different clubs, hence they are much more susceptible to possibly catching Covid.

So playing the Covid Card is refusing to allow our players to step out of our clubs bubble, which would put them in more danger of possibly catching and bringing Covid back to our club.

To answer my own question from earlier in this thread, according to the club site we have 11 away, 7 of them first teamers:

    https://www.watfordfc.com/news/internationals-eleven-hornets-called-up

I like many have concerns (Covid aside) relating to late returns before our match on 2nd April.

Cathcart: 3 matches for NI, the last being a WC qualifier v Bulgaria on 31/3 evening in Belfast, less than 48 hours before our next match.
Sema: 3 matches for Sweden, last being a friendly on 31/3 evening in Sweden, less than 48 hours before our next match.
Bachmann: 3 matches for Austria, probably won't play but still will sit on a bench in Austria on 31/3, less than 48 hours before our next match.
WTE: 2 matches for Nigeria, second match on 30/3 in Nigeria, less than 72 hours before our next match.
Masina, 2 matches for Morocco, second on 30/3 in Morocco, less than 72 hours before our next match.
Gray, 1 friendly v USA on 25/3 in Austria, plenty of time.
Wilmot, 3 group matches in England U21 tournament in Slovenia, last one on 31/3, less than 24 hours before our next match.

Irrespective of what people think of Gray, an extra match between now and 2/4 will do him some good and will be back from Austria in plenty of time.

Bachmann is unlikely to play, however depending on how tired he is from returning we have enough in Foster to not be too concerned.

I think that Sema could be an issue as he is more likely to get minutes in the friendly than in the WC qualifiers, why the f*** there are friendlies at this time is beyond me.

The other 4 are defenders, which has been our strongest asset this season, I can't see many of them being available for 2/4 but may be all good for the Easter Monday match.

There was no mention of Kabasele, who I thought was included in Belgium's list.

He was in a provisional squad but maybe we have pulled him out?

Bearing in mind they announced a big squad because their German based players can't play in Czechia, this may be true. Looks like he'll definitely be in line to partner Sierralta against Wednesday, would be a new partnership as far as I know, but I do think in the mid-term, if they can gain an understanding, it could be our best pairing. Who knows, they might be able to be a competent Premier League duo...
