It's a shame Jesus Casa has gone. He's quality.

Still buzzing after this appointment. Going to be great to watch. Everyone who thinks otherwise is stupid. We’re going to be playing the best ticky-tak fluid football ever. Sarr bombing down the wings to put it on a plate for Welbeck, Deulofeu bombing down the other wing to humiliate defenders and feed Welbeck.

We will set up 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 and it is going to be wonderful. QSF will even use 4-3-2-1 because he can.

We will be more solid defensively and we will not set up 4-4-2. QSF performed a miracle in our first season back in the Prem with the absolute dross we had. Now he has much better players to work with. First season was all about survival, that’s why QSF set us up the way he did. 4 games into the season isn’t about survival yet, but if we need to dig deep and go defensive then thank goodness we have a coach that can set us up to defend.

Javi was great but it was obvious he had his favourites. We didn’t need his favourites, we need change, he didn’t bring change, subs were reactive not proactive, tactics and team selection was predictable, opposition had weeks to prepare because they knew what we were going to do. So he got the sack, and fully deserved.

Im thankful for all that he did but he didn’t change with the tide and started to drown. It’s his own fault he isn’t here.

Well QSF suggested in an interview in one of the Tales from the Vic books he and the Pozzos weren't speaking for a few months before the end of that season...

Still amazes me the amount of morons, both Watford fans and outsiders, who continue to persist with this "oMg Y hAv WaTfUd SaCkEd DeRe MaNaGa JuS beCoZ oF 4 gAmEz".

Open your eyes to the bigger picture. It's ****ing painful.

Yeah it’s mad and frustrating. We gave him a four and a half year contract, we wouldn’t then sack him based on four games in isolation, that would be utter madness. The fact that people can’t comprehend that is bewildering.

I am not so sure. Very strong rumours that the first team squad had turned against him. I suspect that was a more telling fact in the decision than the difference between one point and three.

I’m never really sure about this whole lost the dressing room thing. It seems to be given as a reason or contributing factor when almost any club sack a manager. Surely when a club are playing badly and losing there will naturally be an element of the players losing a bit of faith and becoming despondent. Obviously it’s then the managers job to motivate them etc, but does a manager lose the dressing room because of bad results or visa versa? I think it’s mostly just something that’s said to support/justify a sacking.

Ok. Big difference between "after only 4 games of the season" which is factually correct and "because of" but I've not looked so I guess you're right.

It is probably a case of no smoke without fire. Look how a group of players at Man Utd reacted when they got someone they wanted in Solskjaer managing the team. And it's not just football. Team sports often rely on a strong bond of respect (different from liking) between players and coaches. Gracia got his contract partly because of the improved "atmosphere" at the training ground. For example integrating all players into the group, after Silva had split them up. Ultimately the great coaches are great leaders. It is the hardest part of the job; the hardest part to maintain over time and the quickest to lose. Applies in most sectors. For example in Canada they believe head teachers only have a maximum of five years to be effective in any one school. So they move them on to a new school to work with a new group of teachers.

No wins and 6 losses in the last 8 Premier League was always going to end one way. You wonder whether the mauling in the Cup Final has affected some of the players. We certainly aren’t playing with the same energy, and the new manager needs to get the players up again, as they have looked flat

Solskjaer has been a catastrophic appointment? 1 win in 10 now at a big 6 club!

Not the point he was making but your statement proves it, Jose had lost the dressing room which was evident in how the players suddenly started playing under Solskjaer and even more evident when you see how poor a coach he actually is.

I was stuned at how Manure tore Cardiff to bits in his first game then went on to spank loads more.

Not to say that will happen to us under QSF, but what at sharp upturn in form that would be.

So it was down to Deeney and Ighalo that we started well but QSF's fault because we ended badly?

I'd say considering that Deeney and Ighalo scored 28 of our 40 goals in the Premier League and the next highest scorer had two goals I'd say that they did carry the team. Whilst we were set up defensively that is a poor return from the rest of the team.

Most games that season we looked insipid in attack but QSF failed to change tactics, so I'd say that is 100% his fault.

  33. a19tgg

Disagree to an extent. Tell me who else in that side and on our subs bench was actually capable of scoring more than a couple of goals over the season?

I’d say absolutely nobody. Gueds, maybe could’ve got 3-4 if he started more often. Deeney and Igahlo scored most of our goals because they were the only players that could and you can’t blame QSF for that.

We had players like Diamanti and Oulare on the bench and Anya in the first team.

  34. domthehornet

    domthehornet Moderator Staff Member

It's a very good point that the squad was poor and I agree but when Deeney and Ighalo stopped scoring QSF didn't change the tactics at all. That to me is a worry.

  35. a19tgg

    a19tgg First Team

Yes it’s a worry, but we no longer rely on just our strikers and our goals are shared out fairly equally across the front 6. Welbeck could also still be a better option than what we’ve had up front thus far. We just didn’t have goals in that team outside the front two, it’s difficult to think of a system that would get round that other than playing for a point every game and hoping for a lucky break.

I’m still sceptical because I remember the football was awful towards the end, however I do expect things to be a bit different with some genuine creative players at his disposal.
