Played the demo this week from steam and with great trepidation given how the series has declined from a high point with PES6.

Hugely surprised by the return to form of the game. Great fun and a more realistic portrayal of the real life sport at last at a speed which allows the midfield and build up play to be utilized. The graphics are excellent as are the stadiums that they have under license. Atmosphere could be improved but if you are on a powerful desktop then everything can be modded including adding Vicarage Road to the stadiums through Juce's modules.

Games wildly vary in outcomes but individual players stand out although team ID still needs work. A lot of the randomness of football is captured and it's physicality and the AI is on a different level compared to the feeble efforts of recent years where the CPU attacks were eminently predictable. And at long last player attributes make a difference once again in passing and shooting accuracy for example and stamina does count. So no endless gegen pressing.

However no doubt over time people will spam the game online to exploit weaknesses in the mechanics just in order to win.

Master League has been reworked although not to a level it should have been but an improvement over recent years.

Was just debating whether to get it this year, FIFA has continuously dissapointed for me the past few editions especially in FUT. Is the price likely to drop in the next couple of months?

It will inevitably HH. I have bought the PC version not the Legends edition as I don't care much about that sort of thing from cdkeys for £29-99. You get to download the game on Steam and you can avoid updates by some skullduggery using changes in the configuration modules on the SteamApp on your PC as updates ruin option files. I will wait for the fan made patches to come out anyway and may return to modding as well to cover Watford ie update the stadium and faces.

Download should be available for pre-orders tomorrow. Ditto for the XBox and PS4 store. Physical copies of these ship on Tuesday and in GAME. This is set to be the best PES since PES6 and about time too.

Finally pre-ordered the Legend Edition yesterday (I like MyClub and the price is reasonable considering the bonuses you get and compared to FIFA's laughably priced Ultimate Edition), and I can't wait now.

I bought 2019 last year, which was my first in probably 10 years, and liked it but got a little bored and frustrated quickly, but from the demo and the features announced this years game has taken huge strides in almost every department.

Gameplay needs a few little tweaks but overall feels fantastic, graphics are great, new TV style camera really adds to the immersion, the presentation in terms of menus etc. has finally taken a big step forward, Master League looks greatly improved and they're clawing back on licences, including EURO 2020.

FIFA, meanwhile, is once again a laughably unrealistic, 100mph, 11 Kante's on the pitch, 5 star skill s**tfest that is now fully designed for and aimed at 12 year olds. I despise what that game has become.

I think the demo was superb Nath. Unfortunately as seems usual Konami have listened to those who want ice hockey on grass. Hundred miles per hour end to end. I don't have the retail version downloaded as yet but from what I read on evo web fouls have been toned down which makes the art of defending cheaper and allows pressure 'whores' to press non stop. They have toned down the physicality as well along with the freedom of the ball which resulted in bizarre, exciting and interesting events within the game much as in real football. Some are also mentioning speedier players are no longer able to get past players as in the demo once set free.

I am sick and tired of Konami pandering to those who want a speedfest and goalfest and cannot be bothered to learn to play as you did with the old PES. Easy to pick up and play but hard to master. They never seem to learn. The demo was sensational a true return to form and miles ahead of FIFA. Now they seem once again just content to ape FIFA because of the hordes of upset MyClubbers the equivalent of the FUT mob in FIFA. Sad really. Lets hope it does not turn out to be the case. In any case Nesa Incas and the other AI modders will hopefully be able to work with the dt18 files and restore the patched game (update 1.02) back to the freedom of the demo.

I've spent a good few hours with it and I can't really notice any difference to the demo except for the fact that fouls aren't given quite so harshly. Some people didn't want it changed but I personally found it far too sensitive in the demo so I'm glad.

Enjoying it so far, will be better when the update is released so that the squads are all up to date, but it's really quite poor that it wasnt ready for day one.

Looking forward to getting all the kits etc. from PES World too.

I've never given Pro Evo a shot. I have always been a FIFA girl really. But EA Sports are greedy sods now.
Has it got full licence to show all the grounds? I know the old Pro Evo had to make do with pre made grounds.

It does all sound very interesting. I am considering it.

Licences are still an issue, only a handful of real stadiums, but they did get the EURO 2020 rights and apparently when the update for that rolls out it will include all of the stadiums being used for the tournament. Serie A, Eredivisie and Liga NOS are all licenced as are the majority of national teams.

The other kits, badges, competition logos etc. you can get for free from somewhere like PES World and you would 100% never know after which are the official ones and which are the PES World ones, they are incredibly well done.

I'm not sure about the XBox and PS4 platforms Skyla Nath is better informed on those. But those can be modded to an extent. If you are on the PC and download via steam then anything and everything can be modded in the game. That includes stadiums some converted from FIFA including Vicarage Road. Juce who is a PES legend originally created a program called kitserver that allowed players to import kits, balls, stadiums, faces and hairs in countless numbers and he has done the same for PES2019 and will do so again for PES2020.

The instructions are fairly simple to follow to install mods. Or you could wait for a community patch. This may take a couple of months for the best patches. There is lots of advice and mods at the following website.
    https://www.evo-web.co.uk/

Mods and everything else is also covered at this website.

It takes a while to get to understand and implement these and you may get glitches so always backup files but the modding community always does a great job of improving the game and that includes the AI. They really are a very clever group. Makes me wonder sometimes why Konami don't employ them freelance. These are the Watford faces and squad prior to the first update:

As you can see they do need work and players like Will needs a face. If I can get around to it I will relearn facemaking for this edition. However for me gameplay has always been key.

Ps4 will have an option file. But not as detailed as pc. I dont understand the anger people have about the licences, FIFA fanboys have always used it as the main swipe at PES regardless of how good it was... I wouldn't even consider thinking about modding Hughes face, what's the point? The Hughes balance of white/ginger don't change if the games fun or not fun.

Think I'll be ordering it today, one question though; do the AI ever give away fouls? My minor gripe with the previous editions was the fact that the computer seemed incapable of mistiming a tackle - infact I don't think I won a single penalty against the AI on 2018.

Gonna be playing on Xbox, not all fussed about licensing and kits. Just looking forward to playing a football game that isn't a pinball simulator.

Tried the FIFA 20 demo last night and hated it (although I quite liked 19). I don't know how they've made it worse considering it's basically the same game reskinned every year. They haven't even implemented the new rules (such as bringing players into the box from a GK) which shows how much thought has gone into it. Will try the PES demo this weekend.

I always find gameplay key. However the modding is to improve immersion. When playing former leagues as Watford it is nice to hear Watford chants being sung and when you have a cut scene that each player does have their face and you are playing at the Vic. They have already created Europa/CL menus and introduction songs and no doubt will do so for each competition along with accurate trophies.

As to the fouls HH. They were ever present in the demo but most agree they have been toned down for the game release. They are there but you need to work to get the foul against you.

So PES2020 on PC was reasonably playable with all the mods available affecting the speed,AI as well as a huge number of graphic updates including a wealth of new stadiums for stadiumserver via Juce's sider. PES2021 will be a roster update in all but name with a few surprises planned apparently. Licenses to both Milan clubs have been lost but if you are on PC it makes no difference as everything is modded anyway.

What is notable that PES2022 will be on the Unreal engine a big step up from the current Fox engine. Given the issues Konami have had implementing new tech from the change from PS2 onwards the development team is taking an extra year and a bit in development. Eminently sensible. Let's hope with the power of the Unreal engine AI is really worked on as is MyClub which is nowhere near the depth of FUT. It would be amazing if they could combine forces with FM but that is a dream. The power of the Unreal engine can already be seen in the graphics which will be sensational from real time clothing flapping about to the most miniscule of details. On the PS5 XBX and of course if you have a powerful desktop.

Great motion capture. Maybe we can get to the PES4 rendered trailer as what Unreal may be able to do.
